  1. Not a lady, but concur, don't take a ton.
Of the stuff I brought, this is what I used:
    - Phone and charger with looooooong cable (some of those plugs are in freaking Timbuktu!). Alternatively you could bring a spare charged up battery.
    - Change of chonies, socks, and t-shirt
    - Chanclas to walk around in, because they never have non-slip booties in my size
    - Chapstick, Gas-X and Biotene
    - Deodorant
    - Pillow to keep the seatbelt from pressing into my incisions

I did not spend the night in the hospital (reported at 06.30, was home less than 12 hours later) so showered at home.

    Thanks vikingbeast...[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji847]

  2. Don't take much - many of us sleep pretty much the whole time we're there. Phone and charger for sure. Comfy, easy-to-put-on clothes for the ride home (I wore the same thing home that I wore to the hospital). Some people like to have Chapstick and Biotene spray because sometimes your mouth and/or lips get dry from the anesthesia. I brought toiletries, but I didn't need to because the hospital gave me a bag of them (travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, and shampoo). I'm pretty sure I took a shower before I left.

Thank You catwoman7. You are helpful.

  3. --His only concern with this whole process is how hot I will look after a yearish. --Ha! I love it! You two sound so strong together. I'm sure you know this but, It's common for one person to feel insecure in a relationship when the other makes a big change. You've been together for a long time and it sounds like he's still crazy for you. That gives me hope! Good luck to you. I hope you get another surgery date soon and that your surgery moves forward as planned. [emoji1]
DoodlesMom, I wish there were more men like him out there. I wish more men & women making a change like we all are had a spouse/significant other as supportive as I have.

  4. My husband thinks I should be able to lose the weight on my own without surgery. He thinks it's too drastic of a step to take. Your husband sounds so supportive. He's even doing the preop/liver shrink diet with you? That's love!! Thank you for your prayers.
I guess my guy is a 1 in a Billion these days. He is so super supportive & his only concern with this whole process is how hot I will look after a yearish. He is worried I will want to be with someone else & I keep reassuring him that is NOT the case. We have been together 24 years & Married 23. I am 46 & he is 51.
No way do I want to
    start all over with
    someone else.

  5. My husband refuses to drop me off or pick me up from the hospital. He disagrees with my decision to have surgery. I expected this but now need a plan. For those who have a spouse like mine or kept your surgery a secret, how did you arrange for hospital pick-up/ drop-off? Uber? Swear a friend to secrecy?

Why isn't he on board with the surgery? Does he not want you to be healthier etc...?

My hubby has been on board since we found out I am at a 52 BMI & I have an overly fatty liver. He has been to all my appointments with me and heard everything the Dr, Dietitian, Cardiologist, & Psychologist has had to say... He is even planning to do the liver shrink diet with me once COVID allows my surgery.

I hope yours comes around soon. Praying for Yall.

  6. What hoops are they asking you to jump through? I'm going through the long stretch with insurance and won't have surgery until December still. I started this back in April. I don't want to go all this way just to have insurance tell me I need to do more.

Insurance just recently informed me I had to show a current A1c & I had to have proof of 5 more Dr visits before they will approve. Dr office said same but it has to also be a total of 6 months not 3 months. So I did my blood work & talked with my Primary Care about 5 past visits where we discussed my weight & what I needed to do; they are submitting that info & my blood work. Fingers crossed & with God on my side, I pray I have an update next week... [emoji120][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120]

  9. I'm in Dallas, but when I was researching surgeons, I came upon a great group in SA. Sage Bariatric. One of their doctors has a YouTube channel and I've really enjoyed his videos. John Pilcher. Not sure if he's connected to your weight loss center.
    Good luck!

Dr Ashwani Kumar is my Dr & surgery is scheduled for 7/17. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to a healthier thinner me.

  10. This it how things are going for me. Sorry if it is long:

I had my Surgery on Wednesday at 10am and everything went well. I did have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during my sleeve.

One in recovery at about 12:30pm I can remember getting up and walking to the restroom twice. I was given some ice chips and some time later was given a cup of Water and a pill to swallow. I was in pain from the gas. It mostly felt like pressure in my right shoulder, my neck and behind my spleen. It was horrible.

I was moved to a room sometime around 5:30pm. I walked from the recovery bed to the bed in my room. I drank a couple of sips of water and fell asleep for about 30 minutes. I was determined to get rid of the gas pain at which by this time was mainly in my right shoulder and neck, so I walked for about 15 minutes. At this time the walking did not help much, I burped 1 time. Since I was on IV and drinking water I had to use the bathroom frequently and because of the pain of getting out of bed I chose to walk every time I had to urinate so I walked for about 10-15 minutes. Eventually I started burping more during my walks.

The night of surgery was pretty much the same, drinking water, urinating walking and burping. I did try some chicken bullion which was delicious and helped me burp from the warmth. I did not sleep much throughout the night.

The morning after surgery I decided to sit in a chair to see if I could sleep but I was still restless. I walked more and burped more throughout the morning. Since I was doing so well with my fluids, urinating and walking the doctor was most likely going to let me go home when he came back to check on me. I wanted to see if I was able to sleep before I was released so I forced myself to sleep and I was able to for about an hour. When I woke I wanted to try the thickest liquid they offered for my full liquid diet which was cream of Tomato Soup. I drank about 2 oz and held it down fine. I was discharged at 3:30pm that day.

When I got home I felt miserable from the 20 minute ride from the hospital to home so I took some med and tried to be as comfortable as I could be the gas pain was unbearable in my shoulder but I pushed through it. I was able to finally fall asleep around 11pm Thursday night.

When I woke up Friday around 5:50am I felt a lot better. I took some Tylenol, sipped on water and walked around in my house for about 1.5 hours (I am really determined to get rid of this gas today). I attempted to walk outside but the mosquitoes were horrible.

Over all the experience has not been to bad the worst part for me has definitely been the gas pain but it is getting better. As a tip drinking warm bullion before and during my walking has really helped getting the gas moving.

Sorry this is so long but I wanted to share my experience.

It's helpful to me.. My surgery is on 7-17.
