Post-op week 1 of Hianal hernia surgery. Day 1 of surgery body had 5 tiny 1/2 incisions just under breasts. Sent home 1 hour after surgery. Took a percocet ahead of pain and never needed another pill . Took Tylenol every 4 hours rest of day but had 0 pain , slept in separate room so I wouldn't disrupt husband and stay comfortable. Day 2 - 0 pain, no meds . Incisions healing already. Only 1 massive bruise from the blood clot shot in stomach.
Days continued on with nothing but success. Facts : 0 heartburn or acid at night in throat, 0 choking to death at every meal. No more protonix medicine for heart burn. Ate regular food after day one even spicy. I suffered 3 years longer than I ever needed too.
Next step is gastric sleeve in 4 weeks. So, stay tuned !! [emoji106]

My husband refuses to drop me off or pick me up from the hospital. He disagrees with my decision to have surgery. I expected this but now need a plan. For those who have a spouse like mine or kept your surgery a secret, how did you arrange for hospital pick-up/ drop-off? Uber? Swear a friend to secrecy?

Girlfriday70 got a reaction from Candace76 in Quickest process ever with my Surgeon considering
I started the gastric bypass process End of April after choking to death on a salad. Who wants to die from a salad. After getting scheduled for exploratory scope foubd out I had a " monster size hienal hernia " per my dr and was scheduled 2 weeks later due to surgery schedules to have it fixed. While waiting for surgery I got dr approval from my primary and all test required by my insurance. The lab work was the hardest to schedule of all things due to limited appointments. This included the Psychiatric Evaluation.
Once I healed from liproscopic surgery, I was seen for pre-op consultation. And scheduled July 14th for Gastric Sleeve. With liquids starting week of. My insurance was Ameriben and my retainer fee for final surgery was 3500. My out of pocket for hernia surgery which was done first was 800 as our family has met deductible for year, just to give you an idea of cost. Dr requires upfront payment and they refund what is left over. My actual cost per insurance should be about 2000.
My Dr. Was Dr. John Debarros a d he us awesome [emoji108]. He is in phoenix, AZ area with WLIA Arizona.
Everyone is different but my journey so far has be pain free and a wonderful experience.
I did not have to do dietian counseling or wait a period of time to get going. But, that said it depends mostly on your insurance.
    Stay tuned for part two.
I follow people on tic tok who have had surgery and they offer great tips like the no drinking 30 mins before and after, small sips, genpro as a Protein option that's tasteless and being patient with scale one day to next.
I'm fully stocked on sugar free Jello, Popsicles and pudding. Premier shakes my fav. And Pro20 waters as protein options as well as Better than Boullon broth in beef, chicken and vegetable.

Girlfriday70 reacted to Lori E in June Surgeries
Hello June surgery buddies! My gastric bypass is scheduled for June 18. I have my pre-op appointment for labs and to meet with the dietitian and psychologist on June 2 and I start the liquid diet on June 11. My surgeon has patients do a full liquid diet - just Clear Liquids and four Protein Shakes a day, so I’m a little worried about that but I figure I can do anything for one week. I’m so excited (and more than a little nervous!) now that I have dates for everything - it just makes it seem so real. Looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!

For anyone who has to have hernia surgery first.
I had it 5/262021 and I was shocked how easy it was. Had it liproscopic so 5 little cuts and I had a monster hernia. No pain except for the chest /shoulders due to the gas they use. But it went away today. So only 1 full day of feeling uncomfortable.
Next step is the sleeve, ready to get it going but have to heal 4 weeks first
Day 3 I'll be back working as I can work from home. So, only needed 2 days off.

They broke up the surgeries due to the size if the hernia. Their words were it's a monster size so they do not want to put me at risk.

Girlfriday70 reacted to Chris10Mariah in New here - Here's a little of my story....
    Hello all!
I just signed up after reading some of your stories and I wanted to become part of this community. I will try not to make my story too lengthy.
I am a 38 year old female, originally from the Midwest, although I have lived quite a few places in my life. Midwest will always be home, though. For almost ten years, I was trapped in an emotionally abusive, sometimes physically abusive marriage with a narcissist wife. I didn't really care about myself or my well-being. During this time, my father - who never had any major ailments in his life - came down with congestive heart failure, fighting for his life with an LVAD for three years... dying in the middle of a restaurant with my mom and their friends.
I am sure you can imagine at this point in my life - I didn't even care if I lived. There were many times I thought about driving my car off of the bridge on the way to work - but I thought of my mom and sister. I couldn't do it to them. My health declined, I had chronic feet issues that led to me finding out I had Hashimoto's Thyroiditis so bad that I had neuropathy in both legs/feet. My weight was in the 260s. Even after my medicine lined out my thyroid levels, I still could not lose weight - this was around December 2017 - also the time I had Achilles repair surgery.
Flash forward - May 2018. I knew I had to get out. I started working out, low carbing... I could only lose around 25lbs on my own, then nothing. No matter what I tried. July, I finally did it. I left with two duffle bags, 100 bucks in my pocket and my truck. I moved in with family - surprisingly all of them being there for me after they all pulled away because of my ex. I then applied for transfers with work because I knew I had to start completely over. I was accepted and moved to the east coast in December 2018.
Since then.. I met and married the absolute love of my life this past summer, June 2020. I was promoted to management with my company. I've paid off all debt from my previous life. I've rediscovered all of my old hobbies and likes. Now, I just had RNY on 4/13/21 to finally take control over the last part of my previous life.. to lose the weight and enjoy the life I deserve completely.
I couldn't have done it without my new wife. She is my rock and my biggest supporter. The most amazing person I've ever met. Sometimes things in life happen... we can't explain them. We have to have the courage to go with it and to see what's out there. We all deserve to live our best lives.
Down 25lbs so far and already feel so much better. Thanks to you all for being such great inspirations to me!
