7 months and 6 days post-op, and I’ve hit my goal! I lost around 70 lbs pre-op (and over 50 of that before surgery consult in late October of last year - COVID scared me into finally getting motivated to really do something about the weight). Pictures are from fall of 2019, second is about 2 weeks post op, and then the last is from early this week. Thinking of adjusting my goal down another 10 lbs or so as I still want to lose some more, but this is the lowest adult weight I have been. Need to start saving for plastics. I will say, the changes are more noticeable now - even 5 lbs can make a difference. I also started doing strength training about 10 weeks post-op (once I was fully vaccinated) and that has made a MASSIVE difference. I did a body scan and from late March when I started to mid-July (my most recent scan), I lost 35 lbs, which I knew from my scale, but I actually gained 6.5 lbs of muscle and lost 17% body fat. Want to continue to build that muscle and tone and now thinking lose another 10 or so. We shall see. But for today, I Celebrate hitting my goal, especially since everyone at the surgeon’s office said not to set it at that, as most folks only lose 60-70% of their excess weight. Of course, they also only want me to eat plant-based, and that’s not happening either. It’s definitely Fri-YAY!

Three months and five days out from VSG surgery and I am down 50 pounds since surgery and 65 since April when I last saw my primary care doc. I've gone from a size 24 jeans to a size 18 that fit loosely. It is more weight than I thought I'd lose in this period of time and the lowest I've been in nearly 20 years. I love that my feet don't hurt, my ankles don't swell and that I have energy! My family went camping this past weekend and I actually went hiking, including climbing a steep hillside that, afterwards, I knew I'd have never have even tried before.
I have had issues with consuming enough calories and finding foods that appeal to me, which I know has contributed to the fast weight loss. I can only eat very small amounts at a time and some days I don't do as well as others with my Water and Protein intake. While I sometimes miss the pleasure of a big, comforting meal, I don't dwell on it and find that eating to fuel my body has its own appeal. I feel free and that's a wonderful thing.

I set an initial weight of 180 - as going into this I said I wanted to lose at least 60lbs. (The goal would be 65 from my starting weight) Ultimately though, I would love to get to 160-165.
    Down 36.6 thus far. I’m on week 10 post-op.

Awesome! Sounds like you're doing great!
I'll be 3 months out the 19th. So far I have lost 70 lbs since March and 52 lbs since surgery. Definitely feel better doing everyday things like cleaning and cooking and walking without being so dang hot, sweaty and out of breath. It's been great! I feel like I may be able to fit in some smaller clothes too but I've yet to go there. Not sure what's holding me back but, soon I may try on smaller sizes to see where I lie.
Otherwise eating and drinking has been smooth sailing the entire time. THANKFULLY! Haven't had any aversions to any food I have tried yet. No issues with pain or anything.
Hope everyone else is doing well too.

This post is very encouraging to me. You have very similar height and weight characteristics to me so I am motivated by your progress. I have not been down below 210 in over 20 years as well and am encouraged. My surgery is on 8/31. good luck and keep it up.

How is everyone doing? Happy 3~ months out to us!
I've passed 60 pounds down from starting the liver shrink!! Life is def getting a little easier; my body doesn't hurt as much as it did and I was able to baaarrreeeely buckle the airplane seatbelt the other day. The only bad habit I have picked back up is eating chips, so I need to watch that. :S

I had an upper endoscopy yesterday at my primary doctor's request to see how my Barrett's esophagus looks and all signs of it are gone! That was good news. The GI doc was able to scope all the way through my sleeve, saying it is shaped like a banana with the bottom tip tilting upward, which may contribute to the significant restriction I feel when eating. He opted not to dilate anything because he had no problems getting the scope all the way through. He did say that I have a hiatal hernia, which was to be repaired during my VSG surgery, explaining it may have formed afterward or, more likely, the repair wasn't completely successful. It doesn't seem to bother me right now, so I'm grateful for that.

I was prescribed omeprazole (like your pantoprazole) and the capsule was a smallish one. It was not difficult to swallow post op. I just made sure I had only a small amount of liquid in my mouth to help get it down without pain.

Today is 68 days since my VSG surgery. I am down 26.9 pounds. But still the same sized clothing though they are looser. Seems like my weight has been the same for a while. However, June 30th I was at 235.6 and today I am at 228.8 so I am down and that is a good thing. I can eat pretty much anything I want. I am hungry all the time. I do get in my Protein most days and that is by eating and not by shakes. Though I do still drink shakes now and then. I have not started working out. That is my plan for this coming week. I want to start walking 3 days a week and working out the other 3 with one day of rest. I hope you all are dong well. How is your progress?

It’s my 2 month surgiversary. Down 33.6lbs CW 211.4 (SW 245; BMI 36.3). Stalled out most of this week, but when I looked at last month I noticed it happened then to…the culprit, my period 🤪 I will still have a loss this week, because I was down .6 today. (I use Mondays as my weekly weigh-in for calculation purposes, since my surgery was on a Monday)
Restriction still going strong …one of these days I’ll actually be able to eat all of my Breakfast (1 egg, 1 egg white, 1oz cheese)
I get hungry if it’s been more than 2 hours since I last ate. Today is my first day not taking a PPI…so hoping no side effects from stopping that.

Thank you so much. That helps give me some perspective. I think with the modifications to my cravings/hunger, I will be successful at changing negative eating behaviors.

My plan has refried Beans and ground meat in the soft food stage. I also don't think eight bites total adds up to be a large amount (unless you're somehow managing to eat large bites currently). I guess I'm wondering why this is freaking you out? To me that is a good mix of Fiber and Protein.

I get “hungry” …if I haven’t ate for more than 2 hours. But I don’t get cravings. That’s the big difference for me from before Surgery. I live with 2 other people, so there is food in the house that would normally be a craving for me pre-surgery, and I don’t even think about it and haven’t touched it.

There is physical hunger, and there is mind hunger - food fantasies. Because most of us got to WLS as a result of our mental relationships with food, the mind hunger is usually much more of an issue that genuinely being hungry. A huge part of this journey for me, and likely most people having surgery, is being able to distinguish between the two. I experience emptiness ("I'm hungry!"), then have to ask myself how long it's been since I ate or drank anything. This is when it is crucial to have high Protein foods that fit into my diet on hand. Because I have been a compulsive eater, a food addict most of my life, I'm trying to approach this whole thing almost as a science.
Someone also mentioned reflux and i agree, it can also mimic hunger pangs. Drink something, Water or some of a Protein Shake. It helps coat and fill your pouch so you feel physically fuller. It also buys your mind some time to separate real hunger from food fantasies.
Learn from the experience, be grateful if you didn't hurt yourself and move on. You just had surgery. I was an emotional roller coaster after mine. Get support from professionals if you're struggling with food addiction. Addictions don't go away just because you've had surgery. Take care of your body, and your mind. You're not alone.

That is so good to hear! I had mine 7/22 and it’s not as bad as the day after, but it’s still pretty bad. I keep obsessing over my moms pea salad. And it’s not even my favorite food! I just keep obsessing over it lol. Thank you for the reassurance

I had vsg on 7.20.2021. It's gone absolutely fine, I'm getting plenty of Water and plenty of Protein but I feel like I'm starving. I had my follow up apt today she they approved me to soft food. I've had cravings terribly and I thought that would be better since they take out the part of the stomach where the grehlin (?) is located. It's not! So, I totally bit the dust and ate taco hamburger and refried Beans with some cheese. Probably 4 bites of each. what the heck is happening?!? Any advice???
