DareMightyThings reacted to Starwarsandcupcakes in Cleaning up diet Pre Surgery
Apparently they’re discontinuing the app after almost 20 years with the app/website and designing a new one called SparkAmerica that also lets you complete for prizes for stuff. I’m bummed about the change but excited to see what the new app will bring and how it will motivate people to stay on track.

I ate everything I wanted up until my preop diet. I'm not recommending to do that, but it worked for me.

I told my family and friends. I did not tell my co-workers. As one member said, "some people can be very opinionated". I did this for myself, for my health, and for my quality of life. I am beginning to feel better emotionally already just 6 days post-op. I feel like the constant struggle is over. The loss of weight, the gain of weight, the stagnant non-loss of weight. The light at the end of the tunnel is bright.

Feeling more confident about my picture being taken at family functions, holidays, etc. I used to actually hide when the cameras came out because I feared of my pics being shown to everyone to see how big I was.
Not being embarrassed to eat in front of others. When I was bigger, I didn't like to eat in front of anyone because in my mind they were making fun of me for being so fat.

I overheard my sons baseball team (bunch of 12 year old boys) saying “wow, your mom looks great! She’s so healthy now!” The fact that they noticed says a lot

A few years back my (then) 3 year old son would go crazy every time this ad for a local weight loss clinic came on TV and yell “mama, mama, mama!” When the before weight loss woman was shown. Sigh. He was honestly excited to see “mama” on TV.

Love it! My son told me I looked stylish yesterday and my husband said I looked svelte. I was not stylish in my plus clothes.

I got a new NSV...at work they have the temperature scanners where you stand in front of a screen. The screen has the outline of a person to kind of guide you on where you're supposed to be standing. I didn't used to fit in the outline, now I do!!!!!!!

I'm only at the dreaded very low calorie, low carbohydrate liquid pre-op diet stage, but I've noticed my fierce Migraines (with aura) have vanished. Completely. It's wild.
So I'm hoping my most beloved non-scale victory will be freedom from migraines!
Has anyone else had their migraines improve after surgery?

oh yeah! Loving the feeling of not dreading if my shoe lace is untied or I need to bend over to pick something off the floor.

Cutting toenails no longer feels like an Olympic event. Also, not eyeballing your parking job wondering if you can get into your car... that's a big one for me.

For me...this is HUGE! I was looking at my robot vacuum cleaner this weekend, so I was on my knees (something I avoided like the PLAGUE before WLS) When I went to get up, I thought "Can I do it without holding on to something?" AND I DID IT! One of the things that always terrified me, was falling and not being able to get up. It happened once (I dropped some papers in the parking lot and when I tried to get up, I couldn't! I had to crawl to a car and pull myself up. UGH).

I had one a few months ago- I recently joined my local volunteer fire department and when they went to find turnout gear for me, they had to really hunt for some that was small enough. And my daughter (who is also a firefighter) wears the same size as me.

Ha ha ha you made me laugh about leg thing. Stuff like that is crazy isn't it?
I had a a huge hump on my upper back right below my neck and I could not lay on my back at all before. If u tried, my head would not touch the floor. Don't even get me started on the boobs or butt! [emoji23]
It is so amazing being able to lay on my back now.
Also, sitting in chairs, besides fitting into them, is just more comfortable how that my but isn't pushing me forward as much.
I love this thread. It's awesome reading about everyone's NSV's!

So many great comments in this thread! It's giving me life this week with the scale going back and forth between the same half pound.
I have three new weird/fun NSVs:
Laying flat on my back is sooooooo much more comfortable without extra padding on my butt pushing my lower back into a deep curve and my boobs flopping into my neck to choke me. It's a whole new world of physical comfort! I keep accidentally off-balancing myself because of my body mechanic habit related to really needing to put some force into swinging my leg up when I was 50 pounds heavier. This morning I nearly ended up on the shower floor because I put waaaay too much force into lifting my foot up onto my shaving ledge. I can balance and walk on my toes or my heels. I discovered this playing with my niece earlier this week. -

Yesterday at my vascular surgeon’s office, one of the front desk staff members was doing my COVID screening at the door and said “I didn’t realize how tiny you are.” At 5’8”, I honestly can’t recall ever being called tiny. 😂

Oh, speaking of jewelry! My neck size has also changed.. About 10 years ago is when I really got up in the high 300s in my weight and my neck got big. It was a 16 or 17 I think. I have a TON of jewelry and none of my necklaces fit anymore. I had to use extenders, but even some of those weren't long enough. Now my necklaces all fit again and I measured my neck the other day and it's 14 now!

another NSV: I have a large hill on the vacant lot next to mine that I mow every week (because the owner doesn't take care of it and I don't want his weeds spreading to my yard). Last summer, I had difficulty getting up the hill on my riding mower and couldn't even attempt to go horizontally because of the risk of rollover. Now that I'm almost 100 lbs lighter, I can go horizontally with ease and my mower has no trouble getting up the hill.

I have many I could mention, but one that has been important lately is that pre-surgery, I needed EE width stability shoes. About 4 months ago, I moved to D width stability running shoes. Now those aren't comfortable anymore, especially now that I'm running more, I just bought D width, neutral shoes. I'm looking forward to being able to do more running.

DareMightyThings got a reaction from LanaLee in Cleaning up diet Pre Surgery
Hey there! So after meeting with the nutritionist for the first time, she gave me tips and recommendations for cleaning up my diet pre surgery. Just to clarify I am not pre op- just pre surgery in the 6 months insurance approval process. My question is....did anyone strictly change their diet right away after the nutritionists suggestions or did it take you a while to clean up your diet before pre op?

With a measuring cup! Like a quarter cup is 2oz by volume.
