  4. I was banded in June 2008. I weighed a little over 210 and I'm 5'4. I've lost over 55 lbs so far. It took a long time because my original dr. put a really large band in. I now see Dr. Robert Davis (from tv show "Big Medicine" in Houston). He discovered how big my band was but we had to take fills slow because that's the protocol LAP-BAND® recommends. So it's taken me a bit longer than some people who have written. I think the hard part is learning to eat differently. Being banded doesn't mean you don't want to try to eat all the same things you always have. If you choose to get the band, think of it as a tool not a solution. It's the BEST thing I've ever done for myself....and I've tried them all. Good luck!:wink2:
  5. I also have a 14cc band and am almost to 11cc. I still need more restriction I think. I can eat too much. Certain foods are starting to be difficult though so I know I'm close. Looking forward to not being able to eat those bread products again. My doctor is Dr. Garth Davis (if you've ever seen Big Medicine on TLC or Discovery Health...that's him). He and his PA have told me that the protocol for fills for the band is 1cc per fill. That's all the Lap Band company approves and says is safe per fill. Be careful with dr's who are willing to put in more after surgery.
  6. I have lost about 40 pounds in the first year. I got really frustrated for a while because I was very strict with my eating and exercise and NOTHING was happening. My new doctor discovered my original surgeon put a huge band in instead of the 10cc band so it turns out I'm still trying to find the right restriction. I still can eat too much so I think that 's part of it. But I really started to give up when doing everything "right" wasn't working out. I'm starting to re-vamp my exercise and am really pusing myself to do more (with a boot camp program). I have another fill scheduled for next week and I'm hoping I can get my mind right too! Keep your head up....there's lots of us out here going through the same frustration!
  7. Try the Davis Clinic in Houston. It's now located on the West side Houston. The doctors were on the show Big Medicine on Discovery Health channel so you can check them out. I got my band done in Shreveport, LA and the Davis Clinic took me on only a few months after my surgery. Let me know if you need any additional information! (Plus, they're sooooo nice!)

    One month of Boot Camp & the scale hasn't budged!

    I'm so glad you made this post. I started doing P90X (like boot camp) at the end of May and I haven't seen the scale move either. I also know I've lost inches but when you feel like you're working your butt off then you want your butt to actually be gone (well maybe not gone) I've really had to cut down on my calories to make it move over the last week or so. I'm hoping it going to start working because my plateau has been going on for MONTHS! It's frustrating! Good to read the positive motivation from everyone. I figure no matter what the scale is saying, eating right and exercise is the right thing to be doing!

    Always starving!

    Hey Cris! This is exactly why I began looking through the forums! I was banded in May 2008 and over the past few weeks I have been starving and have hit a plateau. I have been really strict on myself with my diet and have even began running during the past 2 weeks. I've only had two fills. I moved to south of Houston a week after my second fill and had to wait to get in to the new doctor. So I'm sure I really need a fill. But I have also been told to consider that because of the exercising I might actaully need to eat more calories (can you imagine that?). I'm sure what we're experiencing has more than one cause. You definitely should take some of the advice about getting that fill:smile2:

    Weigh in... how much have u lost?

    My friend keeps insisting it has to be that I'm gaining muscle mass from the running. I hope so since the running is HARD! I think it's hard enough to do when you're a smaller size but with almost 50lbs extra... it makes it even harder. But good news...when I got on the scale this morning I was down almost 5lbs. I hope it isn't a strange scale fluke or something. I'm really looking forward to getting below 170. I literally can't remember when I last weighed under 170. I think it might even be as wonderful as reaching my goal.

    Weigh in... how much have u lost?

    I was specifically looking for May 08 bandsters who are finding themselves at a plateau, like me. I have lost almost 35 pounds but over the past month I have been stuck at the exact same weight! I really watch what I eat...no bread, no pasta, rare sweet treats, etc. I do NOT eat around my band. About two weeks ago, my roommate talked me into running. We're running/walking 2 miles every other day. Still nothing so far. I also am feeling very full at meals but am starving within 2 1/2 to 3 hours. But no matter what, I LOVE that I did this for myself. It has changed my entire relationship with food. Don't get me wrong, I'd still like to eat the things I did pre-op but I have the strength to make better choices now almost 95% of the time. Anyone know of anything to kick start the scale, besides a liquid diet? I don't think that's the way I want to go.

    October Exercise Challenge

    I cannot tell you all how exciting it is for me to be able to participate in a conversation about exercise:thumbup:. It has been so long since I got up and did something to better my health BUT last week that changed. My best friend and roommate is a runner and talked me into going with her on a 2 mile jog/walk. She's been trying to get me to go for 2 years so she was pretty excited I went. It's really hard but I feel great after I do it. Hope I can keep it up. It definitely makes me reconsider everything I'm about to put in my mouth!!! My BF and I are hoping to do a 5k together. At least that's the goal I have for myself!
