  1. That sounds terrible! But it will be over before you know it. I didn’t watch much regular TV during the pre op diet due to all of the food commercials and I tried to distract myself by going to parks, museums and doing things like that. A good thing for you is that you won’t already be sick of shakes by the time you get to the full liquids phase.
  2. Rapid heartbeat can also be atrial fib. You should tell a doctor your symptoms. It will help to alleviate your fears if testing is normal.

Apparently I don't know how to eat soup....?

Glad you asked this question! I’ve been thinking about soup too and wasn’t sure what to do.
  4. Southwest refunds the extra seat miles/cost so I always flew with an extra seat. Plus you get early boarding without having to pay the early boarding fee. It’s the only thing I’ll miss about being overweight.

    One month post op

I got steamed chicken and vegetables from a Chinese restaurant. The steamed chicken is super tender. I didn’t eat the rice and only used a tiny amount of the sauce. I made 3 meals from the chicken and the vegetables will stretch even further. I mixed 2 oz of the chopped vegetables with my egg this morning. I wasn’t crazy about purées either, but it was better than liquids.

    Day 1 Liquid Diet Pre-Op

I eat the 0 fat cottage cheese and yogurt too. I put chili lime seasoning on it and sometimes mix in a fruit cup. It tastes pretty good.

    Day 1 Liquid Diet Pre-Op

I’ve been eating small amounts of carbs, like oatmeal, mashed potato, sweet potato, fruit, etc. But I don’t eat them every day.

    November 2021 surgeries

I drank mostly crystal light lemonade at first because water tasted nasty to me. After a couple of weeks, water tastes fine again.

I’m in Maryland, sometimes when it’s really cold, I go walk around in a big store. I might joint a gym soon.

    November 2021 surgeries

The first couple of days I walked a lot and felt pretty good. But I’ve been taking it easy since and developed the sharp, stabbing pain. The weather was better today so I got in 6500 steps. Now the pain is a LOT better. You’re probably right about it being the gas. Thank you!

I’m also having back pain, but it’s my upper back, between my shoulders. I think mine is from sitting around too much since it’s been cold and windy outside. I’m 3 weeks out today. The weather is pretty good today, so I’ve been able to take some walks. Im hoping it will help with this pain.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I don’t crush my pills. If smaller than a dime, my instructions say it’s okay. The larger ones that are scored, I break in half.

    Other Protein Alternatives

The bariwise soups are pretty good. Keep the water temp under 140 degrees so they have a smooth texture. If the water or milk is too hot, the protein sticks together.

Yes, I feel hungry too. I’m on purées right now. Couldn’t wait for purées and now can’t wait for the next phase.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

So happy to hit the purée stage today! Haven’t had any problems with the things I tried…poached egg for breakfast, black bean purée with cheese and salsa for dinner, and tastes of the things I puréed for the upcoming week for lunch. I will need to drink a protein shake to hit my protein goal for the day. Hang in there those still on liquids!

    Hi

You should notice a difference in your arthritis pain. I’m 4 weeks from my pre-op and definitely feel less pain. It’s worth it from a pain standpoint.

    Thanksgiving Purée

I was wondering if the VSG veterans who were in the purée stage for Thanksgiving have any food recommendations for the big day. Looks like I’ll be able to taste mashed potatoes and plain sweet potatoes. Would deviled egg filling be too rich? I hit purée stage this Tuesday and cannot wait! Any purée advice is appreciated. Congratulations to everyone!

    Serious sore throat from intubation?

I wish I knew this before. My heart started racing and I think they may have woke me up faster than usual. Or maybe the trauma from waking up with a tube in my throat caused my heart problem.
