    Hi all!
I'm about 8 1/2 months out and down at least 180 pounds since my all time high and over 150 since surgery. Doing well for the most part. But a recent knee surgery has me sidelined. Went to Bariatric Doc today and am low on B12 and was chastised about not enough protein! So time to get on the Protein wagon big time. I restocked on essentials today and recommitting to 80 grams per day and a muscle building program. Doc says I am losing too much muscle. Anyway, here are the pics.

This made me laugh. So often people want instant results. It is hard work to lose weight and get in shape regardless of having WLS.

So sorry. I'm always amazed how brave people feel behind a screen. They say and do things they would never do in person. I'm just sorry they took away your good feelings and sense of pride. I hope when the dust settles you'll be able to get it back.

Long story short even though i recently got sleeved. My dietician was impressed with my recovery and all of the changes i've made thus far. So she asked me to come speak at two of her pre-op diet classes and answer questions for other newbies, give them tips and so on. Needless to say the class actually went REALLY WELL. I felt like i helped a lot of people through there fears and put them at ease.
I posted a recap on another support group blog for those who missed the class and it was like crucified by overly sensitive literal IQ under 12 assholes. And i can't take it. I was only trying to help, which i did. WTF.
It was like they were all judging me for sharing MY own experiences. I don't know what to do. We all have ups and downs but damn don't get mad at me for having a few ups, aren't we supposed to help each other out???
I was most frustrated because the comments were all from people who didn't attend the class so they have no clue about what i was actually sharing or what questions got asked.

When you can shop the perimeter of the grocery store like it's an art form.
I rarely go down the inner aisles on a regular basis unless it is for specific items (spices, toilet paper, etc). I haven't seen a Cereal, cracker, cookie, or bread aisle since pre-op.

Who'sThere reacted to hermione53 in Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
Hi, this is my first post. I'm almost 4 weeks post my sleeve surgery and so happy that I made the switch. Short version: I was banded 12/99 and loved it at first, but I didn't stick with the exercise and eating regimen as well as I was supposed to. Lost about 32 pounds. Gained about 20 back. Lost it again... Didn't realize it for years, but the band had slipped and I had a hiatal hernia. Lots of acid reflux. My pain wasn't as bad as others. Got to my lowest weight b/c I couldn't get much down. Was rebanded 9/07 and had no success. Even with a very tight fill I could eat quite a lot. Not a plate of pancakes or anything, but a lot. Would lose on Weight Watchers, gain again... blamed myself. Felt like a failure. My PCP asked me early in 2016 if I wanted a referral to a different surgeon. I was about 50/50 regarding doing a conversion because I didn't think I was having any problems and I could feel some restriction so knew it was doing me some good. I got a lot of support from the whole team, though, and decided to go for the conversion. Had my band removed 10/16. Sleeve done two months later. Winds up that I had another hiatal hernia. Who knew? All I know is that after both bands I experienced lots of hunger and was fighting with myself from day one. With the sleeve I feel almost no hunger. I know things will change as time goes on, but for now I'm very grateful.

What you are feeling is pretty normal from everything I've read. PTSD is very serious and I'm not sure it is a fair comparison at all.

I am going to advise giving a little more info to your college professors than taking care of a personal or family matter. You don't have to go into specifics, you can say "getting treatment for a medical issue" or "having surgery" without going into more detail. But as a professor myself, if someone just told me they needed to be out of class for "personal reasons" without more, I'm not sure I would allow it without deducting from their grade. Either that or I would allow it but carry on with the assumption that the student was 1) a flake; 2) an addict seeking treatment; or 3) a criminal who was going to spending time in the county lockup to clear their burglary/assault/drunk driving charge.

Well, thank you. I do love my kiddos, that's for sure. I think if you build a relationship with them, they are more willing to give you all they've got. I teach 2 consecutive grades at a very small, rural impoverished school. Those kids are MY kids, especially after 2 years. If we couldn't cut up and have fun, I'd be miserable. If that makes me attractive, I'll take it. ???? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

Who'sThere got a reaction from YankeeBizChick in Left side tenderness
Our surgical group really stresses that left side pain is to be expected. They say this is the largest incision, whether it be sleeve or RNY (those are the only two surgeries our group does now) and that is does involve the muscle. Also, they said this is where they pass the stapler through. They suggest we wear our binders as long as necessary as the pressure helps relieve some of he pain. I didn't need any pain meds after 24 hours when they took away the PCA pump at the hospital until 2 weeks out. I've had 3 doses now, all for this left side pain. The girls in my group say that one day, it will just be gone. I'm hoping it goes soon! Hope yours goes away soon too!
