Jennie4315 got a reaction from lizonaplane in All I can eat is 2 bites
So i try to eat slow but it’s so hard. Also sometimes I eat late lastnight at 7:30pm I had alittle bit of chilli and couldn’t lay down for 2 hours. I try to eat all through out the day. Because I don’t want to lose to much weight.

Jennie4315 reacted to FINFAN3DP in 100LBS GONE! And anyone else have vapor lock?
100lbs Gone since the beginning of this, and 62lbs down since the surgery. So far, so good. Wondering though if anyone else has issues with what I call vapor lock when drinking. It's where you take too big a sip on something and you end up with it sticking around in your chest for a bit.

Jennie4315 reacted to Nsch1018 in 8 months NO WEIGHT LOSS
Hi Mom of 3:
im a mom of 3 and 5’ 2” so can sort of understand your frustrations. However I’m only about two weeks out from surgery. You have lost 40 to 45 pounds — that is amazing. I hope to lose that much in the next year as well. Others on this forum can probably give you some tips, I know there are bariatric coaches who will be able to help and give you ideas.
who gives a d*** what your supposed “normal weight” is supposed to be. You are brave to have taken this step and with your experience you can probably help a lot of newbies like me.
this is a great place to share your thoughts because everyone is so encouraging.
hang in there - you’ve got this!

Jennie4315 got a reaction from lizonaplane in Just had surgery
So I had surgery for the sleeve on 3/31. I guess in my head I didn’t feel like I would be in that much pain after but I was. The gas pains hurt so bad. It’s now the next day and they have me drinking Water mixed with apple juice. I have to stay 2 days because I had my goal bladder out also. Even through the pain I would do it all again.

Jennie4315 reacted to Creekimp13 in Psychiatrist
You should see the psychiatrist. It's important. There are folks who trade food addiction for worse addictions with potentially fatal results. There are folks whose relationships fall apart. There are folks who have mental health issues that need to be addressed before surgery can be approved. Most insurance plans will require you to be cleared by a psychiatrist to approve the surgery. Most surgeons will, too. Don't wait....call your doctor's office and check if it's required. I think there's a strong chance it will be, and it would be really irritating to have your surgery date delayed while you wait to get in to see the psychiatrist. I didn't want to see the therapist...thought it was unnecissary and a waste of time/money. Boy, was I wrong! I didn't need my therapist until a few months after surgery, but I was sure glad that relationship was established when the time came. Therapy has been an integral part of my success. Food addiction is sneaky!

Jennie4315 reacted to Jnfinney in What to say to the psychiatrist
I ended up being really thankful for my psych eval. She went through my medical and personal history. Some of it was painful to bring up, but it is also necessary to understand how some of my habits came to be. Additionally, I had previously only seen my PCP for my anxiety and depression, but I felt like the psychiatrist was better able to understand my underlying mental health conditions and I have been seeing her ever since! I had some of the same thoughts/questions/worries, but I quickly came to realize that the psychiatrist genuinely wants people to be successful, so I hope you will also have a positive experience.

Just be honest. Admit your fears and past mistakes with weight. They'll want to know if your expectations area realistic. They'll ask if you have a support/encourage network of people to surround you.

I found the interview helpful. My psych had bariatric surgery 10 years ago so I had as many questions for her. About 30-40 minutes but basically just a chat.

Jennie4315 reacted to catwoman7 in What to say to the psychiatrist
I didn't think it was the hardest part. I thought the test I got was a little annoying (repetitive questions), but in the interview he did afterward, I think he was just trying to see if I had realistic expectations and was ready for this. I don't think this part had any more bearing on insurance approval than any other part did.

Jennie4315 reacted to Arabesque in What to say to the psychiatrist
Tell the truth. The head work on the weight loss journey is really important. You might get an immediate go ahead or they may offer strategies to support you. Your honesty will only help you be more successful on your journey.
The process is different in Australia, the psych evaluation is not mandatory but at the discretion of your surgeon’s recommendation. My surgeon said I didn’t have to go but sent a friend to one session. Another friend had two pre surgery sessions & continued to go after her surgery.
Good luck.

Jennie4315 reacted to Jaelzion in What to say to the psychiatrist
I'm sure different psychiatrists have different approaches to this but some of the things my evaluator was looking for included:
Understanding of the risks and possible consequences of surgery Commitment to making permanent changes to how I eat Realistic expectations Any pre-existing mental illness is being treated and managed well Any pre-existing eating disorder has been addressed medically and psychologically Any other addictions have been treated and managed The presence of an adequate support network I really didn't get the feeling that she was looking for reasons to disqualify me. It was more like she was doing due diligence to make sure I was of sound mind and mentally healthy enough for the challenges of bariatric surgery. It took 30 minutes, tops. I wouldn't stress too much.
