I am lucky enough that my insurance will do the surgery on me as long as my highest recorded weight puts me at a BMI over 40 and I am still overweight. However, I agree with catwoman7 and JMJames92 about how these should be gradual lifestyle changes. I get up at 4 am everyday to work out and people often look at me like I’m crazy or ask me why - my answer is always simple, though. Establishing a routine has kept me accountable for exercise. When I know it is part of what I do everyday, there isn’t any thinking about it, I just do it and it sets the routine for my whole day. If I think about skipping my workout for some extra sleep, I remind myself how my day will be off all day from missing my workout! It has also given me a sliver of normalcy amidst this pandemic!

Yes! I have also wondered about this! I am only allowed Water for an hour after after I take my synthroid and I don't take any type of Vitamin until several hours later, as well, usually in the evening to avoid interference.
I am going to my last appointment today before my preop diet starts and I will ask and get back to everyone either this evening or tomorrow morning on what I find out.

I think you have a pretty good plan. In my opinion, the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to not focus on weight loss but to focus instead on living a healthy lifestyle. It's kind of cliché but if you look at nutrition guides, such as the food pyramid or myplate.gov (what I used) you can get a pretty good idea of how many calories you should eat each day and what percentage of your diet should consist of starch, Protein, fruits, and vegetables. If you focus on just being healthy and getting the nutrients your body needs without going over your calorie limit, you will lose weight as a side effect of that. This is especially helpful after your surgery when you have lost the weight you want to lose. As I'm sure you've heard 1000 times, if you don't change your lifestyle and nutrition/exercise habits, you will likely end up gaining much or all of the weight back. Good luck with your insurance and your surgery! I hope all goes well for you.

Jnfinney got a reaction from Sleeved_in_MN in Setting a goal weight?
My surgeon had never talked about a goal weight, either. When I asked him about goals, he discussed making lifestyle changes and habits that stay with you for life as a goal. Additionally, my dietician also told me “you are more than just a number” on several occasions and commended me on my adjustments toward a healthier lifestyle, regardless of what the scale said. The dietician did eventually give me a goal weight that fell within the healthy BMI range.

Jnfinney got a reaction from Jennie4315 in What to say to the psychiatrist
I ended up being really thankful for my psych eval. She went through my medical and personal history. Some of it was painful to bring up, but it is also necessary to understand how some of my habits came to be. Additionally, I had previously only seen my PCP for my anxiety and depression, but I felt like the psychiatrist was better able to understand my underlying mental health conditions and I have been seeing her ever since! I had some of the same thoughts/questions/worries, but I quickly came to realize that the psychiatrist genuinely wants people to be successful, so I hope you will also have a positive experience.

Hi everyone! In exactly one month I will begin my pre-op liquid diet. I am allowed Jell-o, popsicles, broth, Protein Drinks, milk, vegetable juice, fruit juice, etc. I am worried about going on this diet and sticking with it for 2 weeks. I thought about easing into the diet, like having just a Protein Drink for Breakfast the next 2 weeks. Then the following 2 weeks I am thinking about doing liquids for breakfast and lunch and eating supper as usual. I think this might be a way to help me ease into it and curb cravings. What were your experiences with the pre-op diet? How did you stick to it for the full 2 weeks?

I just turned 27 and am having my sleeve done in March. I’ve had weight issues my whole life and have struggled to keep weight off in my own efforts. I don’t have any before and after pics yet, but it’s great to have other people on here in the same age range!

Hello! I just got my surgery date in March, pending insurance approval. I’m wondering what tools/gadgets/foods/vitamins you stocked up on before hand? What did you take with you to the hospital? Thanks!
