    The Prodigal returns

welcome back! keep up the great work!
  5. Hi luke, I was beyond terrified when I started my journey! I struggled for weeks on the pros and cons of surgery. The dangers of me having the surgery were less then if I didnt have the surgery. If I remained as overweight as I was I would have had kidney failure, lymphodema, I was on the verge at some pretty serious health problems. Believe me this surgery is well worth it. I have lost about 170 lbs and have a ways to go. I am excited for what my future holds, and I hope that you feel the same way. I guarentee you will not regret this. Good luck hun!

New post op - need advice

I think what you are describing is gas pains. I also experienced pain in my shoulder related to gas. Make sure you are walking, walking, walking. The more you walk the better you will feel. Also have you tried Gas x strips. They disolve in your mouth so they arent hard to tolerate. Those were life savers for me during this time. Also make sure you are driking enough water, that will help emensly! Good luck and congrats on your journey!

  8. Thank you so much for your kind words! You made my day! :)

  9. Hey hun, thanks for the picture comment. I weighed 430lbs before surgery and I weigh 270 right now. I still have quite the journey ahead of me. I have been banded for 18 months. Congrats on losing 55lbs thats great. My doc told me that you should be losing 1-2 lbs a week and you are right on target. Dont focus so much on the scale but rather losing inches, dropping sizes, etc. How many fills have you had?? and what exactly does your doctor say about everything. I know I hit a plateau for a while and I went in and had a fill and since then its been pretty fast. Try changing up your routine , such as different foods, etc. As far as the water, do you like crystal light? If so thats a great way to get water in. If I help support you in any way please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the great work.

    5 Days Post surgery

Ok so # 1 relax. Everyone is different , and although surgeons usually give you a schedule to follow post op, some people do things a little differently. I do not think it will hurt you to try and eat some mushies if you feel like you can handle it. However I would be careful on the things you are choosing. Gravy is high in fat and very heavy which is probably not a good choice. I started mushies about a week out, but I ate things like cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, yogurt. I would try things like that, stay away from high calorie things such as gravy, they will not help you calorie wise. Good luck to you , keep us posted!
  15. I was 20, almost 21 when banded. I am now 22!

  19. If your surgeon has trouble finding your port spot they can do a fluro fill. It basically is like a fill under x ray. No worries though, Im sure your doc will find it. Just keep positive and focus on your goal. Good luck

    Weight loss question

Yes 1-2 pounds a week is what they estimate. However everyone is different, you may lose faster or slower. Don't base too much around the numbers though, it is important that you focus on getting healthy and feeling better! Good luck!

    Drinking and Eating

I was told it was about washing the food through too quickly, and you don't experience the full feeling. I have also had it described to me as an hour glass thing where the fluid you are drinking has no where to go so it just keeps building up till you end up vommiting. I try my hardest to wait but if I have to I sip water , like one sip though, otherwise I'm in trouble.
  23. I'm not gunna lie, since having this surgery I have become some what obsessed about the whole food thing. Its exhausting because you DO have to think about how every bite is gunna affect you. I know personally I always make sure I sit near the bathroom when eating when I am not home that way I can easily get there if I have a pb or stuck incident. I think the band has helped me become aware. I am definitely aware that this was the best decision for me! Good luck to you!

    Wanting to binge......

I know its difficult but I would make it a point to try and focus on something else. Find a hobby that will get you away from the kitchen, take a walk when you feel like your going to binge. Its really tough when your in the in between of surgery and first fill, but you will make it. Keep your head up and take it hour by hour.
