That is fantastic to hear!! I have very recently started eating all real food and I am definitely seeing and feeling the difference now!! It ALMOST felt like I didn't even have surgery until I started real food! I'm currently mourning the loss of my ability to "tear up" delicious food!! 😆 LOL but I'm down 20 in 4 weeks and hoping to either sustain that pace or maybe pick it up a little! So far I'm incredibly happy with my decision to get this surgery!! Thanks for sharing your inspiring experience!! 😊

Real food definitely felt different at first. I got over mourning the loss to eat a big volume. Once the weight loss kicks in I started to enjoy the ability to control my portions more than the desire to eat large portions. I also try to figure out healthy substitutes for things I miss. 20 lbs in 4 weeks is amazing.. it will really start to add up if you stay focused and on track. Keep strong!

  2. I have always thought to myself this is too easy… I had vsg 2/24/21 I am down 80 lbs since surgery and 104 lbs overall since 10/31/20. Some of it is luck and some of it I feel is good choices and embracing the lifestyle changes as well as mindset. I listen to a few wls podcasts and belong to a few wls groups. I go to support meetings offered by my surgeon’s office and spend a lot of time researching. Celebrate the NSVs and keep making new goals. Tracking helps me meet my goals, measuring everything helps me learn proper portions. Walking and weightlifting are also contributing to my weight loss. I did have 1 hiccup- gall bladder had to come out 5 months after vsg- but I did have a history of gallstones and the rapid weight loss probably was what caused my gall bladder to become inflamed. Hoping it continues to feel easy and I can stay on track for the long term.

  3. Well I made it home from vacay and was 5 LBS heavier.. Can't imagine how much more it would have been if i did not exercise in the am while on vacation.

I have already lost 2 of those pounds since getting home Sunday. I am not going to freak out. I am back on track with my program/tracking. I made a choice to relax my food choices a bit and have some dessert while away and also drank some cocktails which is a rare thing for me to do at home.

Generally, VSG is only a bit of restriction. All the plumbing is as it was pre-op. So, generally, there is no reason tolerances or much else should change. In some VSG folks, and depending on circumstances, alcohol may dump through the pyloric valve quick than pre-op, causing an effect similar to Gastric Bypass below. There could also be an impact that because you eat less and weigh less that eventually the buzz could hit slightly harder.

For Gastric Bypass, in addition to the restriction, the pyloric valve is no longer in play so any alcohol dumps straight into the intestines. Generally this would cause the alcohol to hit nearly all at once, making it feel like it's hitting harder because it's processing all at once. Because all you drink is processed immediately my Doc* felt it was harder on the liver, so with my severe fatty liver he cautioned me not to overdrink if I could avoid it.

As with all things, your mileage may vary.

    Good luck,

    Tek

    * I took what Doc said as fact though I don't recall researching it on my own as I usually would.

That makes sense. I guess I forgot to notice if people were talking about VSG or RNY when they were talking about it.

  5. I am 7 months post VSG and 2 months post Lap cholecystectomy. We are on vacation at a resort so I am having a few cocktails here and there. I have to say I do not notice any difference in my alcohol tolerance now compared to before surgeries. I guess that is a good thing. I only drink on vacations and occasionally at home when we go to dinner/ party with friends. This week I am trying to balance enjoying my vacation with keeping an eye on the empty calories from cocktails etc. Planning to get back to tracking when I get home.

  6. I am currently 1/2 way through my first all- inclusive vacation in Punta Cana since surgery. We go every year as we have a membership at a resort. It s a challenge for sure. I am walking an hour every morning at sunrise so I get my 10K steps in before Breakfast. I am having some mixed drinks and this is the first week I have gone since surgery in February not measuring food. I am curious to see if I lose, maintain or gain weight this week. I was on a long stall prior to vacation so maybe it will just shake up my system back into weight loss. It is wonderful being here 109 lbs lighter than last year at this time. Anyone else take an all inclusive vacation after surgery?

  7. I have been giving away my clothes too ( 3X and 2x). I have a friend who is a single Mom and thought she would appreciate not having to spend money. I had lots of professional clothes from when I had a Management job as well as special occasion etc. I find it very cathartic cleaning out the closets. I did keep 1 pair of 3x jeans as a reference point of where I started and 1-2 of my favorite 3x dressy blouses just in case. I kept all of my hoodies since I like to wear them bigger and they can go over layers now. I gave away around 8 boxes of clothes so far. I am keeping anything 1x and below for now. Currently wearing a Medium top and size 8 or 10 pants. Not sure if this will be my lowest point or not - almost 7 months post sleeve and down 108 lbs from my heaviest weight of 264. I too felt like the clothes were a security blanket and they needed to go.

  8. I think I remember some on here saying that what they thought was hunger was acid production in the stomach. . Did your surgeon prescribe omaprazole? . I think I recall people saying that helped them. Also I agree with others that you may feel more restriction/ less hunger after you are further along. It could also be what people call head hunger- get your fluids in and continue with the plan. You will get used to it.
