  1. Hi.

I've been suffering from pcos since teenage, having all the symptoms like weight gain, facial hair, irregular periods etc..

I have had my gastric sleeve in november 2020 and lost 25 kg in total.

I have seen improvement with my pcos symptoms, for example getting a regular period cycle, less facial hair and obviously weight loss.

Now, almost after 2 years my period cycle is getting irregular again. Increasing 2-4 days every month. For example, 30 days cycle in June, 34 days in July and 36 days plus (still missing) in August, and I'm definitely bot pregnant.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I'm really worried that my Pcos might kick.in again. My weight is on a stall, as I'm not doing much at the moment.

    Please share your experiences

    Thank you

  2. sach1, I would like to hear more about how things are going with you on your journey if that's okay with you. I received my surgery date yesterday. I'm scheduled for February 25, 2021 and I'm in a state of disbelief and excitement. It's been an extremely long and tedious journey getting to this point. I'm happy to be closer to my goal. I was initially set for the gastric bypass surgery, but after further assessment; my surgeon feels the sleeve will be just as beneficial for me considering my overall health. Congratulations on your current success and best wishes to you as you go even further.

    Hey.
Sure it's absolutely ok with me.
I'm 10 weeks out now and lost 33lbs.
I'm losing slower than many others here but as far as its going downwards I'm happy.
I have had my periods twice in last 2 months and a cycle of about 40 days. Which was not normal for me, not to forget. Plus they stopped by themselves, which never happened usually. Always had to take some hormone tablets to regulate or even stop the bleeding.
The blood flow was very heavy though but hopefully it will settle down too.
    It's really working for me.
There are certain times when I feel low and think things might not work out but then I embrace the situation try to work through it.
Just as we do in normal situations [emoji18]
Wish you all the best for your surgery and hope things work out for you too.
Always here if you would like to hear more.
    Take care
    xx

  3. liquids go right through you - so it'd be hard to stretch your stomach with those. I was always able to drink more than I thought I should be able to. I don't remember anything making me sick, either. Fortunately, I DID lose my hunger (it came back at five months out, though), but other than that, my experience was similar to yours. There were days early on that I wondered if I'd even had surgery!
Did you still lose weight as expected?
I experience similar things as mentioned above and same thoughts that its not going to work for me. I'm stuck.

  4. First of all, if you are following your surgeon's instructions, you are doing nothing wrong. Something I've found eye-opening about this forum is that different programs can vary quite a bit in pre- and post-surgery meal plans, so just because yours is different than someone else's doesn't mean it's wrong!
Second, if you feel comfortable entering some info about yourself in your profile, it would be helpful for context, because a lot of things depend on your starting weight and BMI, your current weight and BMI, and how long ago your surgery was. A lot of people who start at the low end (BMI I am 5.5 months out from gastric bypass and I typically eat 500-600 calories per day. The nutritionist for my program told me at my 6-week followup to increase my calories to 800-1000 per day, and although I have followed all other instructions of my program very carefully, this is something I have not done, partly because I don't think that I could. My program says to eat three meals per day and avoid Snacks other than Protein drinks. I'm also supposed to get at least 60 grams of protein per day (and sometimes I fall short of that). Eating three small meals per day that are focused on protein, I would have a hard time getting 800 calories in a day. I feel that it is important for me to avoid snacking because I don't want to fall back into the old habits that got me to 341 pounds.
I have had two additional followups with my surgeon, and he says that I'm doing great and to keep on doing what I'm doing. I just got my 6-month bloodwork (I did it a little early) and everything is great, so I feel confident that this is working for me. But you are a different person, and you should listen to your surgeon for what will work for you. The caveat to that is that a lot of surgeons seem to have a one-size-fits-all approach, which I think is what happened with me. I'm a 5'3" woman, and I suspect the nutritionist gave me the same advice as she would give a 6'3" man.
Here are some examples from my food diary from the last few weeks (these are not consecutive days -- I tried to pick days with a variety of foods because I tend to eat the same things over and over). Ignore the weird order of meals; I was working night shift for a couple of these, so the timing of my meals was different.

    Hi.
    Thank you for the reply.
I have updated my profile. Hope this will help others to understand better now.
I just feel I can't coop with 600 cal a day. Thats jot enough for me.
    And also lack of energy.

  5. On Monday I get to start eating whole fruits, vegetables, and meats. I've already been eating chicken thighs that were not ground, but no other whole foods. I really despise Protein Drinks, but it's the only way I can get a good amount of Protein in. How do y'all do it? I can't eat more than a half cup, and I feel uncomfortable when I eat that much, so I usually leave it at 1/4 to 1/3 cup. I want to eat veggies, a banana, an orange, but if I fill up on any one of those, there's no room for Protein, and if I eat the protein first, there's no room for anything else. I'm seeing the dietician on Monday, and I hope she'll have some good suggestions, and I welcome any advice you folks have, too.

I was watching some good videos about smoothies and overnight oats. A good way to add in your Protein Powder, veges and fruits. Only if you like them(smoothies and overnight oats) ofcourse.

  6. Thank you all for your replies, always very helpful.
I suffer from PCOS, thats also the main reason I decided to have the surgery. My body is insulin resistant and the hormone levels are crazy.
Maybe this is the reason why I'm on the lower side of weightloss.
Honestly I'm glad that I'm losing weight at all because few months ago that sounded impossible for me, no matter how hard i tried because of all the health issues.
Now after the surgery I have lost 26lbs in total, I have started my Vitamins regularly and YES I feel much better, energetic and motivated to do more.
I agree losing more inches is better because you can see the results on your body.
I just feel people still put me under pressure by asking how much I've lost and then say "o that's not enough, aren't you supposed to lose more with surgery?"
I'm tired of explaining that everyone is different and losing slowly is as good as anything else.
People must be thinking surgery is like magic and you will lose all the weight within days [emoji849]
As suggested by all of you, I will continue with what I'm doing because it works for me. And maybe just read the posts and not compare myself to others.
All your comments and suggestions are much appreciated [emoji5]

  7. Hi everyone.

Just reading through several posts how people struggle to eat after WLS whereas I'm absolutely fine with everything.

I'm 6 weeks out now and lost almost 26lbs since my highest weight.

Now to the main point.. I read people eating 500- 600 cal a day. I count each and every calorie I take in and land between 800-1000 cal a day with 1.5 ltr fluids.

I take 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. Without them I can't manage my 90g of Protein daily. This is the amount my program suggests.

Even if I would take Protein Shake only as 3 meals it will still make 600cal.

How does a 500-600 cal a day meal plan look like?

It would be really helpful if someone could share their plan.

I had a stall at 3 weeks which lasted about 2 weeks. I wasn't eating much at that time and didn't have my 90g of protein.

Since I have started to take the 90g of protein daily the scale has started to go down again.

Plus I have lost more inches than weight on the scale.

I feel guilty by reading all these 500cal comments and think I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I will not lose any more weight.

Can anyone else relate to this?

  8. Thank you all for your replies.
Honestly I can't remember anything suggested by the team about caffeine.
So why is caffeine bad after surgery?
I'm just having one cup of tea with milk a day atm.
But as I mentioned before I really want more hot drinks during the day, thought Green tea would be safe.
As many of you still have green tea, i think it should be fine.
Better than other hot drinks like coffee etc..
    Isn't it?

  9. Green tea contains caffeine. Does your post op guidelines allow caffeine?
I drink Decaf green tea, maybe that is an option for you...or one of the naturally caffeine low/free teas like rooibos.

I'm not sure about the guideline. It doesn't mention anything about green tea.
I will check with the team and try alternative teas maybe.
    Thank you [emoji4]

  10. I did the metformin and Saxenda for a couple months and I do think it helped me lose weight faster. I then stopped all my meds due to other issues and have been off of everything for like 4 months. I restarted the metformin a couple days ago and have been super nauseated so I’m going to stop again.
if you have PCOS, it wouldn’t hurt to see if they can check your insulin levels. It’s not a lab that is typically done. Mine was checked for an infertility work up, or I would have had no idea.
My pcos was diagnosed bt the GP. He prescribed me metformin but I felt very nauseous and uncomfortable.
Then I fell pregnant and stopped taking all kind of medicine. My baby is 10 months old now. I did not have a single period for the first 7 months after birth.
Once they started i had continues spotting. After 3 weeks the doctor prescribed me hormone tablets to stop it. After a week or two the proper heavy bleeding. The weight went up and I looked like if someone has pumped air in me.
Now a days its difficult to go to the gp. All they do is attend on call. I will ask them to make a full blood test but don't think it will be possible before next year.
I have messaged me surgeon and his team asking about inositol and if I can continue taking that, as it doesn't make me sick like metformin.
How long did you take the appetite suppressant?
    My weightloss has slowed down.
I will start the inositol and see how it goes.
I'm just afraid of expanding my pouch. Don't want to waste all my effort and courage to get the surgery done.

  11. I had real, legitimate hunger because I was getting hypoglycemic. I’m not diabetic, but I have PCOS so my insulin levels were too high, which would make me hypoglycemic and feel weak, shaky, and starving until I ate again. I had the same problem pre-op and naively thought the surgery would help fix it. I was started on medication which helped immensely. They gave me an appetite suppressant (phentermine), and Saxenda and metformin for the crazy insulin levels, and it made a difference in my hunger level within a day or two.

Oh my... I suffer from PCOS too.
Now having same issues you described. Might be because of the insulin levels.
I used to take inositol before the surgery but wasn't sure if I should continue with it after the surgery.
I will ask my doctor tomorrow.
How often do you take metformin?
Did it help you with further weightloss?

  12. Anyone out there who has been diagnosed with PCOS/Endometriosis prior to surgery able to shed some insight on what to expect after surgery? Have you noticed your symptoms decreasing or being less severe, etc...? Any information is helpful; I just want to know what I can expect.

I'm suffering from PCOS. Irregular periods, weight gain, Water retention, anxiety... all the symptoms you can imagine and quite severe.
I had my surgery 5 weeks ago in hope to lose some weight and that the body would reboot the whole hormone household and metabolism, having posiive effect on pcos too.
I've lost almost 20 lbs in 5 weeks. Currently having a stall and fears not to lose any more weight. But like everyone here on the forum says, carry on with the routine and it will follow.
Now coming to effects on pcos.. I feel positive regarding to my body image and weightloss, can sleep much better and have barely anxiety attacks.
Can't say anything about menstrual cycle yet.
Just hoping it will regulate the cycle too.
The facial Hair growth has increased though.
I was taking inistole prior surgery for PCOS. Stopped at the moment.
Will speak to my doc if I should continue taking them.

  13. I will speak to my team. Maybe I should start some PPI to calm the acid down and then see how it works out.
I had to throw up last few days but it was just acid no proper vomit.
I feel too that carbs make me feel more hungry and Protein keeps me fuller for longer.
Going to experiment more with the routine to know what suits me best.
    Really appreciate all your comments.
    Thank you

  14. This may just be stomach acid overproduction which can mimic hunger prompts/pains especially if carbs (like cracker & bread) stops it.
Are you taking a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) ?
You could also be facing real or head hunger. But if it a a physical feeling in the digestive system, speak to your Team and get their opinion on what to do next since you are still early post op
    No I'm not taking PPI.

  15. Thank you all for your experiences and suggestions.
It is real hunger.. my tummy rumbles, I feel low and acidity rising up.
As soon as I eat something I feel much better.
I will try and monitor it further.
Proteins like egg keep me fuller too for longer but carbs don't.
I will try and avoid carbs and eat more Proteins.< br>Maybe this will make a difference.

  16. Hi.

I'm 5 weeks post wls now.

I feel really hungry all the time.

No matter how much Water I drink.

I won't say I can eat alot at one but I'm always hungry after few hours.

Try to keep it to 3 meals and 2 Snacks maximum.

I'm afraid I am stretching my pouch already and will never loose weight.

Anyone else had the same problem?

    Plus what about carbs?

Do they make you more hungry?

  17. Ooh I'm happy you shared this. I've been considering getting one. Can you please share which one you have and what you've done with it when you got results previously?

    Hi.
I did not just stand or sit on it.
Increased the vibration levels slowly and did stretching targeting different muscle groups.
You can find alot of videos on YouTube.
I lost a few inches on my lower tummy, hips and back.
Really looking forward to do it again.
    Hope I could help you.
