Good luck. It will be worth it. I found the first couple of weeks after surgery very difficult...I was hungry, mostly head hungry. I have never regretted my band and I am personally thrilled with my results.... -

My top weight was 319 lbs. I weighed 292 lbs when I had my lap-band surgery on 5/19/09. This morning I weighed 166 lbs and I continue to lose...as long as I follow the rules. I don't always follow the rules, I have bad days and bad weeks. I believe that lap-band will work if YOU WORK IT. I eat right, move more, stay motivated. My goals is 150 lbs. I never thought I would be 16 lbs from goal. I wear a size 12 in some things...a 14 in others. I go roller skating with my daughter. I can eat all of the Doritios and ice-cream I want...but I CHOOSE not to. If I chose to eat the crap, I would not lose weight. Would that be the fault of the band? I don't think so. I wish there was some sort of brain surgery that would make me have a healthy relationship with food, but there isn't, so I suppose I must continue to fight the battle. I am determined to win the war. I feel better now than I have in YEARS...I wish everyone luck in their journey. I am so glad that I didn't listen to the people that were negative about lap-band before I had my surgery. If my surgery was a failure, it would have been my failure, not the bands.

Well, I made it through my surgery! I was in the hospital 2 days and the hardest part was no liquids for 36 hrs! I thought I would die. I passed my leak test and was able to drink again. It was harder than a c-section. when i 1sr woke up I thought OMG what have I done? 4 days later I'm feeling great and have a job interview today. I'll be on liquids for 3 weeks, mushies 2 weeks, then I can try to eat some real food. How are you doing? Fill me in. It's been awhile since I heard from you. I hope you are well. Julie

Hi Terri, I have been on my Optifast and this is my 3rd day. I am not taking any diet drugs and for that I'm proud. I lost 4lbs the 1st day & 1lb yesterday. This is one of the hardest things I've ever done. I am sooo hungry. I have zero energy. I will make it through though. I'm glad you are feeling well and able to work. Are you hungry too? My doc makes you go 3 more weeks on liquids after surgery. At this rate I will lose alot if weight before I ever even taste food again. Have you lost anymore weight? I hope all is well.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi! Have you started the pre-op diet yet? I went back to work this week and worked all week, and did fine. I go back Weds to see my surgeon, and then hopefully I will be able to start pureed foods:)

I am so excited to have found this forum. I have been clean 9 years in NA and got my band 5/19/09. Looking forward to meeting other recovering banders! I believe food was my first addiction, I've been overweight all of my life. When I went to treatment I was told "you don't look like a heroin addict" Why? because I was fat!! Anyway, my weight problem has only worsened since I got clean, and decided to get the band. I feel hope about my weight issue for the first time in YEARS. I really believe that I can do it with the help of the band. I am so excited.

Help-surgery close & eating more than ever

I am so grateful my surgeon didn't make me go through all of that stuff. He said he believes if we could lose weight without the band, we wouldn't need the band. I saw him 2 weeks before my surgery and he asked me not to gain anymore weight, and I managed to do that. I too was eating way too much, thinking I'll never be able to eat this or that again. I had my surgery this Tuesday, and he said my liver looked good, and I was fine. He thinks it's cruel to have people starve themselves for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I agree. -
