SoulGardener reacted to SherrieLackings in May Surgeries - check in!
Hello Guys and Gals, I had the VSG last Monday, May 10th, 2021 and my only regret is not having had the surgery so many years ago! I had a Lap Band done in April of 2010 which was a waste of time and energy. I had it removed during this sleeve gastrectomy as well as a hernia repair. There was so much scar tissue that the band actually broke in pieces as the surgeon was extracting it. There is a little piece left behind that will not cause me any problems. The EXTRAORDINARY result of this procedure is that I feel as if they injected me with a heavy dose of B-12 that will not quit! I am up and energetic and cannot get to sleep before midnight when my usual bedtime was at around 8pm! I don't know what to do with myself! I am up cleaning, reducing items that were just stored up in the house, EVERYTHING that I would normally just put off due to fatigue! I am so blessed!

Doing okay. Started on very small portions of well-whipped, moist and mushy solid foods. Causing some frothing, meaning I need to slow down!

Don’t eat! it can cause severe complications, such as bleeding & infections!

If you’re female, it could also be estrogen from your fat in its way out, I imagine that might affect men too, but definitely a problem for women myself included.

My surgery was 5/5; I am one week out so far; there is more pain than expected, but at least I am not hungry. It is pretty easy to follow the prescribed diet so far.

First post-op appt with surgeon tomorrow. Down 33 pounds since started program, 27 since started pre-op diet. I still have some exhaustion and pain, and up and down emotions, but I am coping.

Yes, I burp a lot when I drink the Protein Shakes. On day11 after surgery I started taking one ounce of greek yogurt a few times a day; seems to really help with that.

Looking for other May 2021 folks to share the journey with! I'm scheduled for May 5th and start my liquid diet in just a few days. Anyone else on/around the same time? What kind of pre-op diet do you have? I admit I'm super nervous about how I'm going to manage the next couple of weeks and keep up my energy at work.

SoulGardener reacted to ChunkyCali in Not much weight loss; should I be concerned?
I had surgery the same day as you. It's so difficult isn't it? I keep weighing myself every day, even though I know I shouldn't. We want to see those results and know that all of this was worth it. That it's working, and that we did the right thing.
I started comparing myself to folks on instagram, seeing them lose 10 or 15 pounds more than me in the same time frame. It's a rabbit hole that I can't afford to go down, mentally and physically. I'm telling myself that I have to just give my body time, to let it do it's thing. All I can do is follow my surgeon's advice and trust that I will get results. You are doing great with your intake, I'm sure that you will get the results you want to see soon!

My body must be rebelling.... possibly the MSG in Water enhancers are causing water retention. This morning my weight was 254, tonight it’s 259. I just don’t get it. I am consuming 3 Protein drinks per day, which is only 450 calories. Today I had sugar-free Jello, that has 4 calories per serving. I am walking 10 minutes 3 times per day. So as of tonight I have lost only 1 pound in nine days since surgery. I am not cheating. Disappointed but will stick with it.

they say weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. What's a typical menu for you?

SoulGardener reacted to catwoman7 in 5 weeks post-op slow weight loss
you should be able to get there if you work really hard at it. There are a number of us on here who've made it to a normal BMI. The statistics for making it that far are 10-15%, so it's not easy, but it's definitely possible.

No - do not go back to a liquid diet. Stick to your plan. You are in the infamous "three-week stall" that probably over 90% of us experience. Stick to your plan and stay off your scale if you have to. It WILL break. Always does. You will have other stalls along your journey - just stick to your guns. Don't get back into "diet mentality" by trying to starve it away. Just stick to your plan.
P.S. Stalls typically last 1-3 weeks. You are just fine.

You're losing faster than I did.
unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", average range for first month's lost seems to be about 15-25 lbs. Of course, you will always find people who lose more or less than that, but they're the exception. You are doing just fine.
