I agree. I made some small but consistent changes for months before surgery, and I thought the pre-op was pretty easy. Getting in the right mindset is SO important.

My surgery is tomorrow morning! Ready but nervous. I think I'm more nervous for after, how I'll feel and how I'll react to foods. Hopefully everything turn out well.

I had gastric sleeve surgery March 2021. I had food stuck at the stomach opening and ended up at the er and then an endoscopy was done at midnight. Don’t want to do that ever again.

It appears to be resolved! I fought with appeals for 10 months to get approved for my surgery, the big hurdle was weight loss surgery wasn't included in my coverage. I won my final appeal because the surgery was my only viable option to properly repair my hiatal hernia.
I called insurance, they told me it was automatically rejected based on my coverage, they will process it again and it should be fine.

Actually, I think it is this sort of simplified picture that spawns the question. A lot of detail is left out that leaves things "hanging in mid abdomen" as it were. To understand the concept of surgery, we don't really need all the complicated detail.
However, the more complete and scaled 'before' picture shows how there is a lot more going on around the stomach, so not much room or direction for things to move about willy-nilly.

before and after. The stomach is not left free-floating afterwards.

    From here:
    https://www.ecommunity.com/services/community-bariatric-and-medical-weight-loss-services/faq/after-surgery

" What happens to the lower part of the stomach that is bypassed?
The stomach is left in place with intact blood supply. In some cases it may shrink a bit and its lining (the mucosa) may atrophy, but for the most part it remains unchanged. The lower stomach still contributes to the function of the intestines even though it does not receive or process food—it makes intrinsic factor, which is necessary to absorb Vitamin B12, and contributes to hormone balance and motility of the intestines in ways that are not entirely known. "

    Don’t fret!
After RNY, the remnant stomach is usually left in its original place. The abdominal cavity is packed pretty tightly so nothing is just floating - unlike VSG where a some space is made by removal of part of the stomach. (Reenactment of my original VSG below )

The stall is HARD! I've been on these forums for months before I had my surgery so I feel really prepared. I knew stalls would happen, but now that it's here, it's hard not to mentally beat myself up or question what I've been doing. I'm so grateful for these forums!

RIGHT?!!! I'm going to ask my NP if no one else has an answer, but they always give me the oddest looks when I ask my curiosity questions. I'm a librarian so weird, obscure questions are a job hazard.

I had my RNY on 3/3, and there's a bizarre question that has been taking up way too much of my brain. Unlike the sleeve, the rest of our stomach is still in there. How does it stay in place? Like... is it just floating? Can it shift? Could it migrate somewhere else and end up all twisted? Sorry... it's just been in the back of my mind!

I'm a newbie so not a ton of experience to share, and I'm not trying to sound preachy.... but maybe you need to seek out a therapist as it seems like your fear might be turning into an eating problem. From this response, it seems like you aren't eating nearly enough. I'm well over that amount and I'm only a month from surgery.

I had my first visit today to begin my journey! I am lucky that I live in Cleveland and have lots of access to the Cleveland Clinic. My surgeon was great, very nice - thorough, answered all my questions and after learning about my history and concerns, we decided that the bypass was the best option for me. I was surprised as I went into it convinced that I wanted the sleeve but he obviously had much more knowledge than I do. Now I meet with the nutritionist and psychologist next week! He said to expect surgery around July/August!

Hello everyone! It's been a hot minute since I've posted or even visited this page. I need to rant about myself & I know this is a safe, non-judgemental place to do so. I had my surgery on 9/13/20. When I got home from the hospital after a 2 night stay, I was SO HUNGRY. I told myself I wouldn't be a casualty of going off the rails, especially right away but that's what happened.
I hold myself fully accountable. I've most definitely stretched out my stomach although I know it's no where near what it was. My surgeon made my follow-ups for a month out then six months out. The surgeon's office had just switched from doing a month, three months, then six month follow-ups, although I've been told I can make an appointment anytime I want to, free of charge for the rest of my life. I wish I would've made an appointment right away for guidance, instead I listened to the lies my mind was telling me. Now I'm almost 7 months out. I'm down 40 pounds which I'm very happy about but I don't feel like I've "earned" that loss at all.
I know all the things I should be doing. I read & read & read before surgery- on this forum, books, other online resources, etc. I felt so ready. Silly me. I know I can get back on track right this minute & stop any more harm to my health and to my stomach size. I have a book sitting at home that I know will be fantastic at helping me. I ordered an adult tricycle that should be getting put together today or tomorrow. I even bought a $1,400 elliptical trainer I've used maybe 5 times.
I'm just so very disappointed in myself. I'm hoping this confession to y'all will relieve me of some of this guilt I'm carrying around. I feel like crying & if I could kick my own booty. Thanks for listening y'all.

Hi All!! I had my one month surgiversary (3/3) over the weekend, and while my scale has slowed down, which I expected, I went shopping and was able to get into XL instead of 2XL and have gone from a size 24 to an 18/20! I also compared my measurements from 12/20 when I started measuring, and I have lost a whopping 41 inches!!! That seems crazy to say! Feeling really good, and I get to move into regular foods on Thursday!

I highly recommend the Davis Clinic at Memorial Hermann. They have a really good program for pain/nausea management post-op (with a little help pre-op) - I think it really helped and the surgery was truly a piece of cake. I’m 11 weeks post-op and lost about 45 lbs (I had lost close to 70 pre-op on my own). Did the sleeve and have been really happy.

It was such a relief to get rid of mine! I had a repeat sleep study at 5 months post op and had zero apneic episodes so was able to turn the machine back in.
