Yes I am more of a junk food eater. I know the bypass wont kill cravings but will help with the malabsorption .

Well if you are a junk food eater you may dump and that will take care of that. Malabsorption doesnt last with calorie deficits, your body will heal itself and in a year or so and the only malabsorption you have is Vitamins.

You can always eat quite a bit of the wrong things, lol. However, what one regards as "the wrong things"... that varies a lot.

While I obviously don’t speak for everyone, I have had zero issues with carbonated drinks. My restriction is still the same four months out and I drink a LOT of carbonated drinks daily. I won’t say what I drink because that’ll start another discussion entirely but I will say they don’t make me crave sweets or anything like others mention, and they keep me feeling full. Ok it’s diet Mountain Dew. It’s always been my favorite drink and I’ll die on a hill extolling their virtues. ;)

I think negativity about high Protein intake is related to the negativity about the Keto diet. I was told to aim for 60 grams during my weight loss. When I reached maintenance I adjusted to the 0.8 per kg of my weight. But my dietician said it should be 1g per kg but because I was a woman in her mid 50s I should be getting 1.2g but that seems too much. I aim for 50g a day but I don’t beat myself up if I only get in 40g on the odd day. It’s a bonus day when I get in 60g.
I think you should just follow your plan & the recommendations from your dietician & surgeon.

I consistently got the recommended 60 plus grams of Protein for my first 2.5 months post-op, and at my first post-op lab check was found to be protein deficient. Follow your surgeon’s recommendation. If I had been consuming less than the 60 grams per day, my protein deficiency would have been worse. Now I have the daily struggle of trying to consume 80-90. It is not easy without reverting to multiple Protein Shakes per day.

Hope all goes well for you!

Carbonated drinks don't stretch your stomach. It's a myth.
Dr. Weiner made a interesting video about this.

Ask yourself what kind of eater am I ? Do you eat a bunch of junk food or do you eat to past full at meal times ? The sleeve is more restrictive so my opinion it is meant for overeaters, but if you are more of a snacker and junk food eater the bypass is better. Just my opinion.

Hi. No, the switch is best. The rny is more weightloss than the band and the sleeve statistically with what little length in time data we have on sleeve. The period is 12-18 months.

I will add that my surgeon said that stretching the pouch after bypass is nearly impossible to do. You can, however, eat significantly more over time than you can during the first year, and as others have said, you can eat quite a bit of the wrong things once you are in maintenance. The surgery is a tool to lose weight, but it's a matter of discipline to shift to a healthy lifestyle and keep the weight off.

Yes you may be able to reset a sleeve but I dont believe you can do that with a Bypass. I had revision and I still dont feel too much.. I started weighing my food again .

I am also SUPER afraid of this happening. Getting back into old habits, cravings, overeating, etc. So far, so good, but only about 3 months post op.

The gastric bypass will bring other digestive advantages other than just having a smaller stomach. Also, a pouch reset may restore restrictions of your smaller stomach. I had a gastric sleeve. At first, it was restrictive. Later I was able to eat larger meals. When I did a liquid diet years later, the pouch reset itself. I felt full after very small meals again.

Mine has many options. Is varys to liquid diet to solid diet, you can change it per day. I am going to try 1000 cal diet option where its bascially 1 slice bread, 2 x eggs, veg for every meal with yoghurt as a snack.

There are ways to eat around every surgery. If you want to, or feel compelled to, it can be done.
I was afraid I might try to do this and chose my surgery accordingly. For me, it took amazingly few bouts of dumping and few episodes of eating wrong to change my habits. I don't know why I learned my lessons when others didn't.
    I guess I was lucky.
Choose carefully. Act wisely. Then hope you don't persist in trying to do it wrong.
    Good luck

yes - people have gained all their weight back. You have to be really committed to doing this and stick to your program. You can "out eat" any surgery.

If you are focused on losing x pounds per month, you will be disappointed.
Not because it will or won't happen, but it won't happen every month. Or, you won't lose weight for a week, or two.
What are you going to do when the scale doesn't show weight loss? What is it going to do to your plan?
Think these things through. Unrealistic expectations will destroy your program quicker than anything else. You get a bad number on the scale, then start searching for NEW ways to get it moving again. This is the path to failure.
WLS is the time to take the story of the turtle and the hare to heart. Your plan, slow and steady, wins this race.
    Good Luck,

14lbs a month would be on the high side, but the good news is the honeymoon period lasts 12-18 months!
A monthly tally of my weightloss is in my signature, if you are interested! Best of luck to you!

statistically speaking, you'll lose more with bypass than you will with sleeve, but it's only about a 5% difference. Plus an average is just an average - you'll find people who fall on either side of the average. There are people who are extremely successful with both surgeries - and people who fail with both surgeries.
14 lbs is a lot. You may lose that the first three or four months, depending on a whole host of other factors (sex, age, metabolic rate, activity level, starting BMI, etc), but weight loss slows down a lot after that. I started at well over 300 lbs. I lost 16 lbs the first month, maybe 12 or so lbs a month for a couple of months after that, then I think around 10 lbs a month until I was about 7 months out, and then 5-8 lbs a month until I got about a year out. After that, things really slowed down until it finally stopped at around 20 months out.

P.S. With your starting BMI, your weight loss isn't going to be really speedy. You WILL lose it if you're committed to your program, but 14 lbs a month is overly optimistic for someone at your weight. Most of us start out much heavier.

Statistically speaking Gastric Bypass is 3rd for overall highest average percentage of weight loss. 1&2 are Duodenal Switch and Loop Duodenal Switch, but typically you have to be super morbidly obese to have the DS surgery (having a of BMI 50+). So for your weight right now Gastric Bypass is statistically the best one available for you. Some people can lose just as much though with Gastric Sleeve, Balloon, etc. It's very much dependent on the person on whether they follow their guidelines and the way their body works imo.

Different Surgeons have different ideas. Generally they work out with similar results.
I think the main point is follow a plan. It's the folks that think they know better that run into problems later, IMHO.
You have a lot of research to do.
Everyone has an opinion. Many of us have several. Opinions don't lose weight.
    Good luck

    Hi

Recommended daily Protein is 60-90 grams per person?
I was recently watching a video by Dr Vuong and he mentioned trying to reach high number of protein grams per day will lead to regain. It was suggested reaching a lower number and in the comments values like 40 grams per day were mentioned.
    Thoughts?
