It's definitely to shrink the liver. The pre-op blood tests include one which tests how fatty your liver is and that should determine what your doctor tells you to do re pre-op diet.

My pre-op labs are today, and I have been on the pre-op diet for... this is the beginning of my 6th day 🤣 My surgeon just always requires a 10 day pre-op diet, apparently. Mine includes food, though, so it isn't too bad (anymore. Those first three days were rough. I am eating like an eighth of what I normally did.)

I got a coffee mug warmer, so it has two heat settings on it. I have small, appetizer sized plates and while I'm eating, if it's something warm, I set it on there. If it's something cold (if I'm home), I'll usually take half and leave it in the fridge/freezer if possible to keep it cold. Just be aware if you use the mug warmer, leave it on low or you may end up slightly burning your food lol. It was a life lesson.

Fabulous! I'm guessing plastic plates would be a no for those LOL (I'm just being funny... I don't have plastic plates.) Thanks for that idea!!

My mom actually bought me a candle warmer to set my plate on.. Now, I actually haven't used it except for candles , but it might be something you can try.

Yes... This is what I was going for. I wonder if that would work well... I'll have to look into it. Thanks! Wonder if anyone has any food-warning experience with them...

I don't want to sound condescending, but how about a microwave? Also, the thing I had to get used to after surgery was chewing each bite 20* times. The old me would chew 4 or 5 times then swallow. I did that about two weeks out while eating a piece of chicken and it was the only time I vomited since the surgery. Make sure you chew up everything to excess.

I didn't take it as condescending, but nuking something repeatedly would... not be good 😁

I was thinking more like small warming bowls, or insulated plates or something.

  5. I'm still pre-op, on my pre-op diet currently, and I'm trying to practice habits I'll need for after (drinking Water in sips instead of gulps is the hardest. I love water and am a gulper). One is eating food very slowly, with pauses... Thing is, stuff gets either cold if it's a hot food, or warm if it's a cold food. I dunno about you, but cold scrambled eggs are gross to me, for example.

What are the best ways you've found to combat this issue?

  6. Okay I finally received my coverage booklet and I do not see Bariatric services under Excluded and Exemptions. So I am assuming that Bariatric Surgery is covered. They only have two things you need to qualify: BMI 40 and take part in nutrition program. I am so excited can’t wait until my first meeting with the Dr. on Jan.21, 2021. I pray everything goes smoothly.

Happy for you... Making that first appointment is so exciting!

  7. So for prescriptions my doctor orders as standard:
Scopolamine patch for behind the ear
    Zofran
    Metoclopramide
    Liquid hydrocodone
Pepcid ac I take for a few months
Two celebrex tablets to take the morning of surgery.

Anyone else have prescriptions already? I’m curious how different mds order different items.
Wow! I know my surgeon will be doing the scopolamine patch and the zofran for sure, as we talked about my nausea level from prior surgeries. Once I do my pre-op appt Wednesday, I'll let you know if I was prescribed anything in advance (last time I had surgery, they just gave me a shot glass of zofran in the hospital while I was waiting, I didn't get it before I got there, so I wasn't aware that was a thing!)

I used Bio Oil after my plastic surgery. I ended up being terribly allergic to it. After I had my reaction to it I googled and found that many dermatologist warn against its use.

I used silicone tape on my VSG scars. They are now nearly invisible white lines. I tend to scar well so I may have had the same result with or without the tape.

Yeah, I have been curious about the silicone tape. I plan on asking my surgical team this stuff as well, but wanted to get more opinions from the folks who have the scars, not the ones who create them... LOL

The WLS scars are very small though, so unless you suffer from serious keloid formations, they aren't so very stand-out-ish.

Edited to add: just remembered something you else can do to aid in better healing: DON'T SMOKE! (at least that is what both my wls and plastic surgeon said...)

I am looking in to a few things. I don't keloid REALLY bad, but my scars from my breast reduction 30 years ago are still somewhat visible, as is a scar on my forehead from when I was six. Ugh. Of course, I didn't really take care of them, because I was young and invincible, right? :)

    I don't smoke cigarettes, thankfully.

I tend to scar as well but I have to really look to see my scars now. They’re just tiny, thin white lines. I used bio oil & gently massaged it in twice a day once the wounds were healed. I’ve used it before & it helped heaps then too.

I will have to look into bio oil. I haven't heard of it. Google will be my friend today :)

I'm on day two also! I'm not doing as well as I should. You're allowed fruits? Lucky! I wish I could have fruits.

Today I got in two out of three Protein Shakes and I'm suppose to have 64 oz of liquids. Not good. Tomorrow is a new day and I hope to do better. As much as I was wishing that my surgeon didn't require a preop diet, I'm glad that he did. I think it'll help me in the long run, because it's a good way to prepare for what's to come after surgery.

Yeah, mine is 10 days and has food. Lower carb, low fat, low calorie. I am feeling very low. LOL... Now that I am on day 4, I am not QUITE as hungry, and I am losing weight like nuts. I am guessing it is because my calorie range for the last 3 days has been between 400-700 😳 As for the liquids, really try to get them in... because I think it will be harder after surgery, and I'd think it would be better to start out hydrated. I am rootin' for you!

My doctor already called in my prescriptions for surgery so I have those picked up. It makes it feel real!

Congrats on the 50 lbs down!! What Rx did you need to get? I haven't been told of any, but I do go in for my pre-op labs Wednesday. Maybe I will find out then.,,

Did you have food furneral? If so, what did you eat?

I am one of the others on the 2nd as well... though with you being in Norway (where in Norway, BTW? My husband's father's line is originally from there) you will go first. Looking forward to seeing how you do. I had sooo much before I started this pre-op diet. Scallops, shrimp, steak, pizza... I bid them all goodbye for a while.

The scars are pretty small, but I look like a pin cushion because I had my gallbladder out 6 months before my surgery. I have like 10 holes! I'm not too worried about it but if you are, you can try scar massage. I had a breast reduction years ago, and I used Mederma to massage my scars and they're barely noticeable.

Yeah, see I had a breast reduction in 1990, and you can still see the scars. I scar real bad, that's why I worry. I don't think mederma was around back then (or if it was, I didn't know about it). Wondering if I should try the silicone sheets I've been hearing about...
