I had my rny and hiatal hernia repair on 8/19. The first couple of days were rough, but now I feel great. slight pain when I turn or move a certain way, but I feel fine. When I left the hospital I was told to hold a pillow or blanket over my belly when I get out of bed etc. At first I forgot, but then when I remembered what a world of difference. I also slept on my side with my belly resting on a pillow. that helped ease the pain tremendously. So remember, pillows are your belly's best friend after surgery!

September 2....just a few more days away. I've had no pre-op diet. In fact, I can drink Water all the way up until 2 hours before surgery. I'm so confused about this. They are very casual about it.

Well, tomorrow is the big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30 am. I’m an early riser so it’s no big deal. I’m feeling a little nervous and hoping everything goes well with my hiatal hernia repair and then the RNY. I hear the recovery from the hernia repair is pretty rough so I’m dreading that. I’m nervous but ready to get this show on the road!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻😁

Surgery went well! Lots of pain and nausea Friday night through yesterday morning but I turned the corner a little before noon. They were going to keep me an extra day, but once I started keeping my Water down for a couple hours in a row they let me go home a little after 5. sleeping in my own bed last night was fantastic. I think I slept for almost 11 hours. Feeling better this morning. Getting my water down and walking every four hours or more often if I need to. Hope everyone else is doing well!

In my program I started my multi, Vitamin b & d but I’m suppose to wait until my blood work and followup to start my Calcium.

I know I have low D, I was taking the B before my bariatric consult and I started the multi before my surgery (with ok) to make sure I could tolerate it.

Good morning from bed, next to my sweet pibble mix (who finally got her fill of cuddles)!

Yesterday went really well. I had to set timers and plan carefully, but I hit both my Protein and Water target. I’m so-so on the Protein Shake taste, but I really like the puréed Soups I got (3 flavors).

I lost 2 pounds in the last day, so I’m nearly back down to my weight on Monday morning before surgery (I had a lot of water retention… still a little puffy but getting there). Tomorrow I may hit a low for the year, then it’s all down from there. :)

Going through same stuff. Presurgery stuff on the first and second, followed by the COVID test on the 18th. I have to self isolate from then, through to the surgery on the 20th. My wife is none too happy since the 18th is our anniversary. I'll just have to yell happy anniversary from the other room!

I feel like there's quite the learning curve to this. I definitely can't get away with things that were so easy before. Here's to hoping we'll all adapt soon!

I had an EGD and barium swallow test. The EGD documented my hiatal hernia but the barium test showed my GERD wasn’t severe enough for the revision from VSG to RNY. My hiatal hernia is being repaired and is covered by my insurance but the revision to RNY was denied. I had to pay out of pocket for the revision ($2600.) My surgery is on Monday 8/29.

Girl, I feel your pain. I just made an appointment with a counselor because I'm about to lose my mind. My husband is an alcoholic. Every night is him bitching about everything wrong in the world. I try really hard to keep a positive attitude. I know things in the world are shitty but I don't focus on what I can't control. My work life is stressful as we are getting ready to go through a merger and realistically don't know if we will have jobs or if we do, what they will be. I just hit my 20 years with this company so I am feeling a little sad. Then I have to go home and listen to him until he goes to bed. I'm frustrated to say the least. Rant over.

I understand where you are coming from and see issues like that for me coming up…. Unfortunately he isn’t changing but I am.
I have been married for 22 years so it’s not a relationship i want to flush down the drain, but I have to start to prioritize myself over everyone else. He too likes the way things are and is trying hard to avoid change. it has been too much hard work to change myself for the better and loose the weight i have to go back to the destructive patterns of the last 21 years…..
I am giving him a little more time to adjust but also letting him know that I need emotional support and help around the house too and if he is not willing to change for me, I wish him well on his solitary path.
It’s hard when partners are out of sync; even worse when one refuses to adjust for the other …
I hope he can change for you.

Whenever our significant other takes us for granted, it is a very painful and frustrating time. I have been there. I'm so sorry you and others are going through that. I was once in a relationship like that. I gave him a deadline to get his act together and when he didn't meet it (of course), I just walked out.

If I remember correctly, I wasn’t supposed to take supplements until after my first post-op appointment. Then I just started taking them regularly. I take BariMelts. Multivitamin with Iron, Biotin, Calcium, and Probiotic. My regular Vitamins (pills) are additional iron (I needed it according to my bloodwork), B12 , and D3. My bloodwork has been excellent since my VSG 18 months ago. I’m getting ready to have a revision from VSG to RNY so some my routine may change. I read a lot and watched YouTube videos about Vitamin supplements so they were very helpful. To be honest, it can’t hurt to take Water soluble vitamins. It’s the fat soluble vitamins that you have to be careful not to overdo. That’s where your bloodwork will be extra helpful. 😁

yes - some surgeons are now recommending that sleeve patients avoid NSAIDs, too.

I got the sleeve on April 18th. I have had a few days where the reflux was extremely painful. I have yet been unable to lay down to sleep because of it. I am on a medication for 30 days called pantoprazole 40mg. It worries me a lot because i cant afford to get a revision. I never had this issue before surgery. If you have heartburn. Getting the bypass may be best. It basically eliminates GERD for most people.

VSG Surgery in scheduled for Sept 1, 2022. 4 years ago I started having a lot of gastric problems. Random and often
vomiting, severe diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion, etc. I had 2 colonoscopies and 2 endoscopes. Finally, diagnosed with gastritis and microscopic colitis but no reasons why those happened. I took lots of different meds, changed when and what I ate, etc. Nothing worked. It was so bad I was afraid to even leave my house at times. I went to a bariatric/general surgeon about a VSG. He ended up being just who I needed to help solve my huge gastric problem. At first, he said I would probably need to get a bypass instead of the VSG because he thought I may have had GERD/reflux. He sent me for another endoscope and discovered from the last endoscope (a year before) I had newly developed a hiatal hernia, stomach ulcers, and deformed pyloric. Did some more tests and found my stomach acid was about 5 times too much. My pancreas was not able to produce enough of the necessary stuff to neutralize the stomach acid traveling through the intestines, which in turned cause the gastritis and severe diarrhea. The bypass leaves a still somewhat function stomach so I will get VSG instead since it removes a large portion of the acid producing fundus. I will also get a repair for the hiatal hernia and pyloric. I am so thankful to my doctor for finding my gastric problems and explaining to me in a way I could understand. AND lose the weight, too! I ended up not having GERD/reflux at all, even I develop due to the VSG, I think I can handle it! Thanks for listening to my story!

Good morning from sunny SoCal! I'm now 4 days post-op. Yesterday was the first day the surgeon wanted me on 'cloudy liquids' (pureed Soups + Protein supplements), and I did really well with that. I measured out the Soup and shakes and made them last almost a half hour. The Baritastic app says I got 61g of protein (close to target... very good for a first day on shakes though, eh?) and 483 calories.
Movement was really good as well. I have a repeating timer that goes off every 30m to remind me to get up and move for a couple mins. Doesn't feel like much at the time, but by the end of the day, 4m/h times 16h is just over an hour of total movement. I feel good when I do it. One day when I lose more weight and my knee and back pain go down, I'll be able to go on significant walks again, but baby steps.

My low weight of the year was 369.9 the morning before surgery, and I've been in the 370s since then because I'm puffy and gassy still, but I trust I'll see the 360s again soon.
So many Vitamins and new BP meds to coordinate that I ordered a cute pill organizer from Amazon that will be here next week. Right now they bottles are all in a single bag, so it's a lot of rifling through to find things.

That's a great result. I've lost 23 and a half pounds since August 9th, so that's pretty good. Congrats!
I can't wait to go under 100 kilos (220 pounds), but that may not happen until next week.

I too had my VSG on Aug 17th. I’m 5’2 and my start weight was 230. Now 9 days post op and 16 days on liquids, I’m down 24 lbs already. This is crazy

I did really well after my VSG except for some difficulty drinking Water. That hurt! But I didn’t have nausea or much pain either. I was up and walking the halls pretty quickly, too. I’m getting ready to have a revision to my sleeve (VSG to RNY due to hiatal hernia and GERD) and I hope this surgery goes as well as my last!
Sounds like you’re doing great! Be thankful and roll with it! 💕
