Significant Other & Comments
STLoser replied to RobertM2022's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I completely understand. I'm a very sensitive person, so anything my husband said before he had surgery I would take to heart, but the key for me is knowing he is 100% supportive of me and loves me. And he knows I am supportive of him, so he understands that if I do say something I'm trying to help, but I really do try to let him do things his way, because it's his journey. When you love someone you just want the best for them. And it sounds like your significant other is exactly the same. Now, if it was something they were constantly doing, or watching you like a hawk and picking at you, I'd have a different opinion, but I think we do tend to be sensitive. Most of us have had a lifetime of being policed by people because we were overweight it makes us sensitive to it. It does get harder when the honeymoon period is over, but for me it's not nearly as hard as being almost 400 pounds was. I do have my cravings and appetite now, but it's easier to control as long as I follow my plan, and I do allow myself a portion controlled treat now and then. It sounds like you are doing amazing! HOW DO YOU HANDLE THE QUESTIONS
STLoser replied to kla7403's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I tell the truth. I'm a pretty open and honest person, and I don't care what they think of me. I am not a good liar and I just think for me it would be much harder to try to come up with some other story. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
STLoser replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is awesome! I can't wait to get my license renewed this summer. It says 350 on it and I was almost 50 pounds more than that when I got it last time. I have also never had my real weight on my driver's license and I can't wait to put it on there in August! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
how did surgery save you money?
STLoser replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband is a very frugal guy and he was thrilled at what a "cheap date" I became after surgery. Now that he's had it too, we are able to split meals all the time and it's so cheap to eat at nice restaurants. We usually end up having enough leftovers for another meal even when we split an entree. It's great! Also, I can shop at thrift stores and spend so much less on clothes and I love that! Awful doctor experience
STLoser replied to stillundecided44's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm lucky that my surgeon is really good AND had a great beside manner, but I can tell you as a nurse who's been around a lot of surgeons, some of them are great at what they do, but not at dealing with people. As long as they weren't egregiously rude, I wouldn't necessarily rule one out for not having the best bedside manner, but I would definitely get another opinion if someone made me uncomfortable. There are plenty of excellent surgeons who also have excellent besides banners out there. Good luck to you! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
Absolutely. I was wearing a 10 wide or extra wide and often that didn't fit. Now I wear a 9 wide or extra wide. Unfortunately for me, my feet have always been wide. I actually just went to Fleet Feet to get new walking shoes and they do a scan and show you how wide your feet are in comparison to other women. Yeah. Mine are at top. [emoji849] That being said, they were also wider at my highest weight, so how they're just my "normal" wide width. Lol And I can see the bones and veins in my feet! I am a shoe junkie and had a lot of really nice, expensive shoes I had to get rid of, which made me a little sad, but I sure have enjoyed buying new ones. Giving up carbonated water, which was my favorite thing to drink. I am allowed to have it occasionally now if I want, but I don't like the way my stomach feels if I drink it and it also just doesn't taste as good to me, so I just don't drink it anymore and don't miss it like I thought I would. Has your relationship changed?
STLoser replied to sweetsmith78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a wonderful husband who has always been supportive. He loves me for who I am. I love him for who he is. I had wls first (over 2 years ago) , and he was my biggest cheerleader. He just had his 6 months ago and now I am his cheerleader. We did struggle in the bedroom because we were both so big before. Things just don't work the same, not to mention how we had no physical stamina. So in that respect, our relationship has changed 100 percent for the better! Otherwise, our relationship is no different than it ever was because it has always been a good one! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
Always cold!!!!
STLoser replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was always a very hot natured person no matter what I weighed, and I had heard people who day they felt cold all the time after wls. I never thought it would happen to me, but it did! For about the first year and a half I was freezing all the all the time! I would have to wear several layers of clothing. I was even sleeping in pj's with a sweatshirt on and socks AND several blankets. It was crazy because I have never been a cold person! I'm over 2 years post op now and I seem to be back to normal for the most part but I do seem to get colder than I used to. I'm not super freezing all the time now though. how did you create a goal weight?
STLoser replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I weighed 393 at my highest. I always wanted to get under 200. I was there as a teenager and young adult, when I weighed around 160. I had hoped to get down to 160 or 170, but knew I'd be happy to get to 199. I got down to 187 in July, and I'm in maintenance now, 2 years and almost 3 months post op. I have gained a few pounds and I'm at 193 right now. I'm very happy at this weight, even though it's not a "normal" weight for my height. I wear a size 12 or 14, and I'm very happy with that! I've decided to make my threshold 195 before I get concerned. I want to stay under 200. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
Who has done this alone with no support system?
STLoser replied to 18kDays's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was pretty much alone even though my husband works from home. I was fine without help once I got home from the hospital. I actually was fine in the hospital too, I just had a lot of nausea and stayed several days, but I never needed help getting around or anything, even right after the surgery. I was able to drive to my follow up appt. A week later with no problem, and it's almost an hour drive. I think you should be just fine without anyone around as long as you follow your post op instructions. You may not have support there, but you can come to this site for tons of it. The people here are nothing but awesome and helpful! Good luck to you! Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -

Will I ever be hungry again???
STLoser replied to camcam5189's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wish my hunger never came back but it did! I have to day that it's is WAY more manageable than it ever was before surgery. I get small hunger pangs, NOTHING like the raging "hangriness" I used to have. I get hungry now but it's just like "oh, I need to eat" but I don't feel like I'll go crazy if I don't get food like I used to. It still amazes me that if I am busy I just forget to eat now. That NEVER happened to me before. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app -
I swear by Miconazorb AF powder for rashes like this. I get it on Amazon. The only caveat is that it can be hard to find in stock on there and can take a while to ship. But it really works. Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

Loosing teeth after gastric bypass and the easy way out?
STLoser replied to Erin18's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Also, even if it WERE the easy way out, which it is not, what is so wrong with doing something the easy way!? So we should do everything the hard way or it doesn't count!? We have so many things to make our lives easier (washing machines, dishwashers, etc) and no one accuses us of taking the easy way out with those. Maybe we should just go back to hand washing all our clothes with a washboard. Wouldn't want to take the easy way out! I'm sorry. I'm ranty today.
