  1. Sounds like an over-filled sleeve. I have had similar feeling when I thought I could hold a few more bites, but was so wrong LOL. cheese is mostly fat and fat is very filling. The meat needs to be chewed really well. It's not dumping, most sleevers do not experience true dumping. That is an RNY pleasure, because they have no pyloric sphincter and the sugar runs quickly into the intestine...blah, blah, blah. Learning when to stop before we hit the full mark can be challenging.
  2. My husband and I went Vegan close to 2 years ago, unfortunately we did not lose weight . I am trying to maintain a vegan/vegatarian diet, I am now 5 days post-op with my sleeve My nutrionist had no experience with plant based Protein supplements so I did all the research myself. There are several I am using now, since I do not like using whey. You can get them at health food stores, Whole Foods Market, and on-line. You can even get single serving size packets to try before you invest in a larger container. I use a variety of different products so that I am getting the proten from a variety of plant sources. Pea protein is very popular because it is suppose to provide the most saiety but there are a lot of other plants, amarath, hemp, chia, and others, most products use several sources. The brands I use most are Plant fusion, SunWarrior, Spirutene, Vega Sport. They are all powders and I bought a little blender for $15 at Walmart to mix them with my soy milk. The issue nutritionists, who tend to be traditional, seem to have with Vegan is that you need to eat a large volume of plants to get all your protein in. With WLS large volume is not what you are able to do. The protien powders help concentrate the plant protein so less volume. I know I can lose weight but it is keeping it off that I have never been sucessful with, hence I opted for the sleeve. You have to be comfortable with your decision, most of all. Wishing you the best in your journey!

    Liquid Diet Headaches?

Just starting my second go round with the liquid diet. I did it the first time in February and was very successful- except surgery was cancelled. Now on track for the 24th and beginning the 2-week tomorrow. Headaches should subside in a few days. The first time two of my friends did the diet with me, and we all had the headaches for the first few days- they are the hardest, it really does get easier. This time i started two days ago with the liquids, and a couple of non-diet items, trying to ease in to it, hoping not to experience the headaches this time.
  4. My big day is April 24, starting liquid diet tomorrow!!!!!

    Any April Sleevers

Got my date yesterday, April 24 in Largo, FL.
  6. I am on day 9 of 16, the first 4 days I was tired and had the headaches. Then **poof** on the 5th dayI woke up ready to face the world and have felt great ever since. At this point it has been a great excercise in learning I can live without mountians of food. I am allowed yogurt, and have never in my life eaten it so slowly. Eating the same food everyday is boring but I know there is a light at the end of my tunnel. When I started I didn't know if I could make it, but felt if I couldn',t maybe I should reconsider going through surgery. To cheat would only be hurting myself.

  9. Yes, very different from the EGD. Mine was done in the office, no anesthesia. Simply put,it gauges how your esophagus works. A very thin tube goes up your nose and down your esophagus that has sensors in it. Once you have it in you have to swallow a small amount of liquid, mine was saline, every 30 seconds for 10 swallows. I could "see" my esophagus as the swallow went down to my stomach, on the machine. Just curious if it is widely done, because in 2007 when I qualified for the Lab-Band they didn't require it. (I never got the banding done, now I am planning for a VSG in February)
  10. Wow! I just had my esophageal manometry last week. Does every surgeon do this prior to WLS? I had such difficulty getting that tube down, but I stuck with it and so did the technicians doing the test. I would encourage everyone, you will get through it. But not a plesant experience.
  11. Here's my story: I am almost done with month 4 of my 6 month pre-op The dieting is getting tougher as I get closer. My brain is thinking of all the things I will not be able to eat for along time. I have been able to lose 15 lbs using Weight Watchers (yeah!!). I am finding working with the nutritionist is difficult because I have been eating a vegan diet for the past 2 years (no I have not lost weight on it), not because I like it but for health reasons. My NUT is not into plant based Protein, and wants me to add whey protein. I understand the need for quality protein so I have added greek yogurt and string cheese-- which I like. But I always thought protein was protein! I tried to eat red meat this past week and it just did not agree with me, it is certianly not worth feeling that bad and I don't plan to eat it again. Is anyone out there a lacto-ovo vegetarian and successful with their sleeve? Is anyone using plant based protein supplements? Thanks!
