So I’ve lost 180 lbs, and it is still a mind trip sometimes to look in the mirror. For me I feel the same as a person- it’s annoying to me that people act like I suddenly am someone different. Same me, different size. I always had low blood pressure, and I still do. I don’t feel like food or exercise takes over my day, but I enjoy my exercise routine and I feel like food is a pretty settled routine at this point. I don’t weigh or measure, but since I’m getting plastics next month I’m going to cut back on some of the “extra” food since I’ll be cut off from running for a while.

On the looking older- yeah, it sucks, no two ways about it. Lost the fat in my cheeks and I am looking my age. I know it’s kind of taboo to discuss openly for some people but Botox and fillers can go a long way to helping out with some of these problems. You won’t look 25 (or 35) again, but it might be worth looking into. A good injector can make a huge difference. Not saying anyone “needs” this but it’s an option.

    Taboo schma-boo. Lol.
I am pro-botox and fillers (the natural looking kind, not the exaggerated kind!)
Makes a world of difference, and if its done right, people will just say you have nice skin, ha!
BUT…it does get expensive. It doesn’t last forever so there is regular/ongoing maintenance, and it adds up. I’ve likely spent more at my medi-spa than the cost of a facelift. Sigh.

Surgery is next Friday. I'm excited and nervous... I'm trying to get ready around the house and my to do list is below. Anything I'm missing?
    - Nurse will be with me for the first 24 hours
    - Meal prep for 1+ weeks following surgery
    - Clean house (including new sheets on bed)
    - Dog walker booked
    - Meds picked up and put within easy reach
    - Everyday items put out on counters so I don't need to reach (in bathroom and kitchen)
    - Garment and scar tape ordered

Took my kids to theme parks on vacation and there was never a single concern that I wouldn’t fit on the rides. They had to have a person step off the ride due to his weight and I felt so bad for him. Wondering if you’ll be able to get the bar down is such a horrible feeling.

We were just riding the kiddie rides because my children are young but it was amazing that I was able to take them there and not spend any mental energy on worrying about fitting. Also it was hot but I wasn’t a sweaty mess, nor did I lose energy halfway through the day! And the pictures of us on vacation are nice family photos without me trying to hide behind walls or people.

I think skin removal is possible with insurance but very unlikely. I had insurance cover my surgery but my plan specifically states that no skin removal, regardless of stated medical necessity, will be covered. That’s not an uncommon provision.

Regardless, I’d focus on the weight loss and related surgery at this point. Many people lose the weight and never have skin removed. If I didn’t have the funds for it I wouldn’t stress over it, and I’ve lost almost 180 lbs so I def have extra skin. I’ve posted a pic of me in a swimsuit, however, and even then it’s not that overt.

You are amazing! I also took up running post sleeve (not nearly to the level you have, I’m more of a 5k runner) but I’m so grateful to this surgery for letting me discover that exercise doesn’t have to be a punishment.

Another year has gone by and im still going strong. Ran an official half marathon this year and put up some PR lifting numbers as well. Ive hovered at the same weight now for the last 18months. 225-235 range depending on what im focusing on. I will be running my first ultra marathon in November. 33 mile trail run. Should be fun. Other then that, I continue to try to put good things in my body. I still have restriction and i still refuse to eat until im overly full.
Got engaged this year and bought a house. Two things i dont really think would have happened if i never went through with this journey. Overall i am happy and healthy. Any questions feel free to ask!! Cheers to another year.

The ring size thing is crazy. I’m back in my wedding ring set that I haven’t worn in a decade now. It is an amazing feeling, I always felt so terrible that I had this beautiful and sentimental set of rings that I barely got to wear because I gained weight so quickly and couldn’t fit into them anymore.

I’m so glad I was too lazy and stubborn to get them resized because they fit perfectly again. It’s like a little victory every time I look down and see them on my hand.

I was an almost 10 lb baby….I was literally born fat. 😂. I was a fat kid, a fat adult, I was able to achieve most any goal I set out to do but I could never overcome obesity. I finally had to just tell myself if I could have, I would have. It wasn’t a lack of willpower, or knowledge, or anything. I simply could not maintain a weight loss on my own.

Losing weight didn’t magically make everything in my life perfect, but it sure fixed the weight related problems…and I had plenty.

There is a logical fallacy that action is inherently more dangerous than inaction. Being morbidly obese is a risk every day, and in the end life expectancy is better for those who get surgery than those without.

Your friends and family don’t live your life for you, they don’t know what being your current weight is like. For me I knew that if I shared my decision I would get people trying to talk me out of it. So I went ahead with it, lost 175 lbs, and I am still maintaining.
