Hello @Sabs211, Be careful with the cooking spray, as it is still oil. Honestly you might be getting even more fat/oil with the spray vs allowing your pan to heat up and swabbing the pan with a stick of butter (only so you can visibly see a glisten not enough to actually see the butter bubble up, hope that makes sense) better yet use a non-stick pan or cook with a tablespoon or so of Water no spray, no butter, just a bit of Water. Do you have cheese at any other time with other meals? You are not too far from the date of your surgery, there are certain things that might take a longer time before it can get introduced back into your diet.

I did have this problem and I just gave my body more time once I realized that it still could not handle certain things. It has been almost a year for me and there are times that certain foods are not an issue and then they are again. It is really trial, error, elimination, time, trial again, when it comes to any type of food after WLS. But do research cooking sprays and their misconceptions, check the nutrition label, no sprays for 1/4th of a second or whatever its recommendation is. Good luck!🙂

I'm usually fine on cheese, i have string cheese as a snack :)

i never thought to use water. I thought my pan was non stick... at least it was supposed to be 🤣 trust broken 🤣🤣

  2. I'm 6wks post op now, and this evening after dinner (i had a few bites of a cheese and spinach omelette cooked with low fat cooking spray not oil), i went to the bathroom and it was mostly oil coming out. Last time I experienced this, i was taking Orlistat weight loss pills

I know our digestive tract is completely changed after surgery, but is it normal to be so oily so soon after?

Would it have been what i ate?

I didn't get dumping, no nausea etc. Just went to the bathroom about 2hrs after eating.

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing :) Thanks xx

I recently contacted Blossom Bariatrics after my insurance refused to cover WLS by saying it’s excluded after they preapproved it. I need a clearance from my cardiologist to participate in the Fast Track program, and every time they fax the paperwork to my cardiologist they say they are not receiving it. I am very frustrated by this process. Blossom is my last chance. I know the times are difficult right now, but I really want to do this before my 50th birthday next year. Any advice? How long does the Fast Track really take? TIA

Some people on a bariatric support group I'm in have said fast track is as quick as 2wks.

Some of us have a much longer bypass - mine was 150 cm. This may be more common for revisions though - the main reason I chose it is that my surgeon explained to me that a revision to a regular bypass (short-limbed) is not as successful as a longer-limbed revision, similar to a MGB, but without the possible GERD complication. Anyway, now that I'm eating normally (only 6 weeks out - seriously, no restriction, no other problems), the gas and smell is a major issue everytime I go to the toilet. I'm thankful that I'll be working from home over the next 4 months, would hate to have to deal with this at work!

Mine is 150cm too :) haven't had any dumping etc yet and I'm 5wks out

I know chicken nuggets sounds bad, I promise these are not so bad at all. They are made with only chicken and the "crust", and have about 130kcal pr 100 gram. Chicken has about 120 kcals pr 100gram lean.

I have chicken breast strips in the freezer i can cover in paprika and breadcrumbs to cook in the oven when I'm ready for solids 😊

I was diagnosed with hypothroidism in July 2019, and had Loop DS. I've had a helluva time the last month or so with dizziness, fatigue, etc. My primary care doc did blood tests to check some things and found me potassium deficient and my thyroid underactive... again! I had been on the right dose before surgery, but your body goes through changes and so she had to up my dose. I've been losing slightly more weight in the last week since she upped my dose as I lost five pounds instead of my average of 3-4 so I'd say it's working. Hope they figure out what's going on and if it's your thyroid find the right dosage!

Oh thanks! I was due for a thyroid test in March but had my surgery 16th and COVID-19 shut all blood clinics so need to wait to see if it is. Hopefully get some answers 😊

I was stalled last week and gained 1lb and only lost 1.5lbs this week. It's really getting me down.

Being tired is a very typical symptom for anyone with rapid weight loss after a surgery! Our bodies are going through a major change right now!

Consult with your surgeon, but my bet Is that he will tell you that is normal.

Give yourself some love by not trying to do so much. Your body is still in recovery mode. It will get better & then you will have way more energy then you have had in a long time!

    Thanks.

I just wondered because I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid in February 2019 and found the correct dose for me around June (150mg thyroxine).

I'll call my surgeon Monday 😊

It has been almost 2 freaking weeks that my surgeon has been waiting on me to decide which surgery I want so that they can go ahead submit to insurance for approval. I can't decide between the bypass and the sleeve! I know all the pros and cons and side effects of both surgeries, but I have been on the fence for the whole process and thought I would know by now. I do not want to just go with the sleeve and fall back on the fact that you can get revision surgery later. I don't ever want a revision and I don't want to waste any more years being unhealthy and miserable.

Here's my stats: 44 yo, Caucasian, female, 5'7, 290 lbs, bmi 45, and I have hypothyroidism. I do not have any issues with GERD. I just need to figure out which surgery I can achieve and maintain a healthy weight of around 135 lbs assuming I exercise and eat well. If anyone has stats similar to mine and had surgery, any info on your stats would be helpful. Any advice is appreciated!

I was going to go for the sleeve but my surgeon recommended the mini bypass.

Same recovery time as the sleeve but better long term results.

    I am 4wks out, started at 290 at 5'3. I'm 271 today :) i also have hypothyroidism.

But at the end of the day, it's upto you. Does your surgeon have a preference?

  9. Has anyone been diagnosed hypothyroidism and had a gastric bypass?

I'm 4wks post op and been so tired and lost a lot less weight than expected. Typical hypothyroidism symptoms. I can't get my blood test done for a while due to COVID-19.

Just wondered if one of the internal changes after surgery were thyroid hormone production?

    Thanks :)

Were you checked again before surgery or was it assumed because you lost the weight that you wouldn't have apnea still?

After i lost the weight i never woke up gasping for air like i did when i was heavier so i assumed i didn't have it anymore

There are so many hormonal and chemical changes that happen with rapid weight loss. This can result in excessive energy and less sleep. I remember feeling like the energizer bunny on steroids, Normally I sleep 7 hours a night, but for several months, I only slept 3-4 hours and woke up feeling great. My thyroid was normal. There are a sort of euphoria, as well. Now that I am stabilized at goal, I have normal energy and sleep 7 hours a night again.

If you are also experiencing a lot of energy, take full advantage of it. Put it into exercise and your weight loss will progress even better.

Sadly I'm the complete opposite, no energy and sleepy most afternoons 😪 but i can't seem to stay asleep
