  1. Happy 49th Birthday elainemcd!

  2. Happy 48th Birthday elainemcd!

  3. Hi Gordon

I am Elaine, 43 living in Crieff. I was banded by Mr David Galloway at the Nuffield on July 2nd. I went the privare route as my GP said it would take a long time on the NHS. I am still recovering from the surgery and dont know whether the pains I still have in my left side are gas pains or to do with the operation. I go back to see my consultant on August 8th but can phone the Nuffield anytime. Have you been banded yet or are you still waiting?

There aren't too many people on here from Scotland so I just wanted to say hi!

The enormity of my decision is just dawning and I am feeling a bit panicky at the moment mainly because I am so scared of eating the wrong thing. I will feel happier a month or so down the line when I know I am all healed and the band is working as it is supposed to. I am n a liquid/very sloppy diet which is designed to just slip through the band anyway. I have yet to experience the full feeling that will come from a filled band. It will be good to hear of your experiences.

    Bye for now

    Elaine

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Hi, My name is Elaine and I am 43 years old 44 on the 29th of July. I live in Scotland and had a band fitted on July 2nd so am still recovering after the op. Although we have a National Health Service for this op I have had to pay to go private. To wait for surgery on the NHS would have taken forever. I paid £7,450.00 for my surgery but that includes follow up for 2 years. Hopefully I should have lost all my weight by then. I am 5 8 tall and weighed 283lbs before surgery but have already dropped 11lbs, this liquid diet is really hard. It will be great to check in and see how everybody is progressing we have taken a huge step in sorting out our weight problems. It is a major decision and a brave one. Congratulations to everybody.

    Christian bandsters

Hello, I am Elaine and I live in Crieff in Scotland. I have also struggled whether surgery would be right for me given that I am a committed Christian. I have tried so many diets including the Weighdown programme by Gwen Shamblin. I usually do manage to stick to a diet for a period of time but always gain the lost weight back plus more besides. I do not understand why this is so hard for me. My husband works for the teenchallenge organisation so he works with addicts and I have to confess that is what I am. I am addicted to food, the one substance we all need to live. My husband is however supportive of my surgery and I feel that God has led me to a Surgeon in Glasgow a Dr David Galloway who is an evangelical Christian. I meet him for a consultation on the 16th of June and hope he will do the surgery soon afterwards. I have only told a few people in my fellowship as yet but know I will have to tell the folks in my house group. I couldn't keep something so big from them. I think this is a great thread. I want to do so much more for the Lord. My husband has started a great work with the teens here in our town and I would like to take a much bigger part in this but I know that my weight is such a handicap. I feel that I shouldn't have this problem but that is just another stick to beat myself with. Sorry this is a long rambling thread. Love to you all, your sister in Christ, Elaine. God is good all the time......

    Hello from Scotland

Hi Tracey, I am just along the road in Crieff, I have been advised that it will be a waste of time going the NHS route so I am going to go private. I discounted going abroad because I know I will need the follow up just as much as the operation. I picked my surgeon because he is a Christian and thought he would understand me a little better. As a committed Christian I find it hard to reconcile this problem I have with my weight and my faith. I have a meeting with my surgeon on the 16th of June and I want the operation as soon as possible. I am so fed up with losing weight and gaining it all back plus more besides. I hardly ever leave the house and it just isn't fair on my husband and kids. I am 5ft. 8inches and weigh almost 20 stone. I hope you do have some success going the NHS route, your area might be different to mine! Good to chat, Elaine

    Scotland - UK

Hi. I am going to see Mr Galloway on the 16th of June at the Nuffield in Glasgow. I stay in Crieff so I think the support group would be difficult for me. You have lost a lot of weight. So reassuring to know it can work. I am 20 stone and would love to get down to around 12. Seems an impossible goal at the moment. Would love to hear back from you about why you picked Mr Galloway.

    Hello from Scotland

Hello, I am from Scotland and am goint to see a surgeon at the Nuffield in Glasgow on the 16th of June. I just cant wait to get it done but I am slightly anxious. I need this to be the answer but worry when I hear stories of people gaining after a period of time. I am prepared to work at it but I have lost and gained so many times in the past. I hope all goes well for you. I stay in Crieff by the way, childhood home of Ewan Magreggor.
