The picture on the right was yesterday; the one on the left was me close to my fattest. I'm eight months post-op and still losing weight, albeit much more slowly now. I was wearing size 46 pants that barely buttoned around my waist on the left; size 32 on the right. Size 4XL shirt on the left, L on the right. (The left is blurry because I had to crop and it didn't do it nicely. You can still see puh-lenty!)

Rude comments are unnecessary. She asked a question in a forum made for ASKING QUESTIONS. If you don’t have anything helpful to contribute to the post then move along.
I personally don’t see the issue with having a drink. I would suggest starting with 1 drink and seeing how you feel. Remember to sip slowly as it will hit a lot harder than what you are used to and worse case scenario if you do dump you’ll be able to feel it coming sooner if you’re sipping versus drinking faster.
I hope you enjoy the wedding and spending time with your friends! ❤️

I knew this would be an interesting thread when I read the title.
And yes, she asked fellow weight loss surgery peers for their opinions and she got mixed replies. That's the nature of forums like these. And also the same thing happens on here when people ask about pre-op diets. Everyone's doctor has a different idea of what is best.
I'm not going to give my opinion. My suggestion is to follow your plan or whatever guidelines that your surgeon gave you. You trusted them enough to perform your weight loss surgery, so follow their guidelines. They know what's best for you.

Been a while since I checked in. A friend of mine said, "You know, if you do a French tuck*, you can show off those belt buckles of yours. You're slim enough now."
I am not convinced this is the style for me (feels like I wasn't paying attention after pulling my pants up and accidentally buttoned them around my shirt), but damn if it didn't feel nice to actually be able to do it. So here I am, another almost 40 lbs. down, 39 to go. Three quarters of the way to goal.

    * French tuck - you tuck in the front but not the back. I know no French people who do this, but maybe it's named after Tan France instead of France France.

Since I am now halfway between my heavy weight and my goal weight, I thought I'd show myself. I lost 26 lbs. on my own, then 9 lbs. on the pre-op diet, and 41 lbs. so far since surgery (five weeks ago). I only "see" the changes when I look at before-and-after pictures. I'm starting to see what I'll look like further along and I ain't mad about it.

76 lbs. down, 76 to go.

The first photo was taken on September 29, 2021. The second photo was taken on December 7, 2021 about 5 months post op with a 20lb weight loss. I can’t believe I’m down 2 pant sizes already. Apparently my doctor prescribing a binder he didn’t know it has a dual purpose. One it’s for medical reasons and two it’s better then using a belt to hold your pants up.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I read it a few months back and revisiting with a reply and saying out loud that I have a problem. I've been transparent with my BF, fam and close friends that I'm struggling...but hiding how bad it can get. Last night was a sure sign of transfer addiction and will be seeking help.
I'm 5.5 years out and over the last two years have gained 50lbs. I stopped working out and have been holding around the same weight the last 6 months. I can't seem to get the ME back that was so focused.
My Dad passed away in 2019 and to cope, I started leaning on wine and drinking (as did my Siblings) Then during 2020 covid, I was drinking during the week, sometimes alone when my SO was at work and often a bottle of wine all by myself.
I was able to get back some control in 2021, but find myself sneaking drinks and hiding my evidence. Last night, for no good reason I had wine delivered and drank 1.5 bottles of wine after BF went to work.
I know the next steps will be therapy to figure out the triggers and coping skills. Again, thanks for posting your story to inspire me to address this problem before it's too late. I worked so hard to be healthy and I'm sabotaging my future self.

I don't generally care what people say but if they say, "You didn't eat much" or something, I'll make a joke out of it and say, "Well, I don't eat much, but I eat often!" 😀

jami.1992 reacted to blackcatsandbaddecisions in This surgery is bullshit...
I think some people reacted strongly because of OP stating “this surgery is bullshit”, which is a pretty bold statement and runs counter to many of our experiences. This surgery isn’t appropriate for a number of people who get it, certainly. Some surgeons are lazy or greedy and push people through who aren’t mentally prepared to make the necessary changes. But that doesn’t make the surgery itself bullshit.

If you aren’t planning on making any changes to your life, and don’t want to track (be it calories, Protein, water) I honestly don’t recommend it. I’ve had some friends tell me confidently that they plan on getting surgery and eating exactly as they are now, but relying on Portion Control that the surgery provides. I cringe, because it’s so easy to bypass the restriction with snacking, eating calorically dense food, etc.

OP, what’s done is done. I wish for your sake you could go back and reverse the surgery, but you can’t. I hope you can find a way to move forward and either use your surgery to lose further, or find a way to live eating the way you want without regard to weight loss. I’m sorry that your surgical team failed you- you deserved more support than you got.
