Hey there! I had gastric sleeve surgery on 1/31/2020 and here's my story.
I attended the free 12 week orientation classes June 2019 thru Sept 2019 at Kaiser. My insurance paid for everything and I had no issues getting approved. My only out of pocket expense was a $100 co-pay for the hospital stay. Wonderful insurance, I know. Luckily, I had no medical issues making me very low risk for the surgery. My surgeon recommended that I get the Bypass and I changed my mind on procedure the day of surgery and switched to the Sleeve. My reasoning is simple...I didn't want to reroute my intestines and I didn't want to chance Vitamin deficiencies or dumping syndrome. I fasted on Clear Liquids the day prior to surgery and it was hell. I had an interview on fasting day and wanted so badly to stuff my face, being an emotional eater (i did get the job!). I went to bed super early the night before surgery because I had a massive headache and mood swings from fasting.
My surgery was at 1pm and because of the fasting... I wish I scheduled a morning surgery. The nurse that prepped me for surgery was an idiot. Why on earth would I be able to pee for a pregnancy test after having no fluids since the day before?! I could barely pee and what I did pee didn't make it in the cup lol I got 2 tiny drops of pee in the cup and guess what? It was enough for the pregnancy test. The nurse stuck me 7 times looking for a vein. 7 times. Not just a poke either, like she was really digging. She tried my forearm, the top of my arm, and both hands before calling for help. I woke up in recovery in extreme pain, nausea and was thirsty. I said "I'm thirsty and my stomach hurts really bad" and the nurse said yeah you just had stomach surgery. I wanted to sock her in the face. They made me wait 6 hours for pain medication and Water. The night nurses sucked and the day nurses were great. I used the call button every 1-2 hours for more pain meds which they could only give me every two hours. I called after 45 mins and said "did you give me a full or half dose?" lmao but I was serious. The built up gas hurt and my throat was sore. I tried really hard to push the gas out and ended up sharting in my bed. I walked often because I badly wanted to go home.
Coming home was nice and I wasn't hungry but still thought about food a lot. I followed the rules and sipped my water and Protein Shakes and Jello. I only took a week off from work because I wanted my routine back. The doctor told me it was too soon because of brain function is usually low this early on. He said "do you want to go back because you're bored or because it's a money thing" and I said "I'm bored as hell" and he said "then no, you can't go back yet." I didn't listen and have no regrets. I started taking the pill form of Multivitamin early on because the the ones you eat made me gag. I slowly introduce foods as instructed and my staples are yogurt, Protein shakes, salmon, cottage cheese, and veggies. I keep my meals simple. I had my 3 month check up today and I'm on track. I've lost 50 lbs total since surgery. I'm aware that weight loss with the sleeve is slower but I'm okay with it. Each week I can physically feel and see my body changing for the better. I exercise daily by walking 1-2 miles, I feel great, and I have more energy. This is the one and only time that I've had surgery. It was rough at times but overall a good experience. I am happy that I did it and have a long road ahead

I was sleeved in August and didn’t feel even the slightest hunger sensation until about 5 months post op. Don’t be afraid of that! If anything I feel like crap from forgetting to drink Water and not eating but seriously this has been the best thing I’ve ever done and I would do it all over again. I’m 94 pounds down 33 pounds down until I get to my goal weight. You can do it!

I get up and shower, get dressed and put on a little makeup every day. That seems to help. If I don't have a cleaning project in mind, I do Zoom Pilates with my friend who' a teacher, which is awesome. Then I walk the dogs.
I'm also on "help" groups for my neighborhood on NextDoor and Facebook. Yesterday I helped four people file for unemployment by answering their questions. I've taught people how to order food online and picked up medication for my brother-in-law who has cancer. Doing things for other people really makes me feel better and less bored.

I live out in the middle of nowhere, so I've been going for walks every day.
I have also been making use of my VR headset to play Beat Saber, and order RingFit for my Switch, so I'm playing games and working out at the same time so I don't get too bored with it.
Otherwise, I'm making resin coasters and doing cross-stitching when I'm not working. And I baked some black bean brownies the other day because I wanted chocolate.

I'm what 9 1/2 weeks out. (Oh 9 1/2 weeks is an old movie 🎥) I've been on shelter in place for 3 weeks now, it's so cray cray sometimes. I'm doing some walks and bike rides too but gosh I wish I could out be doing more. This is the perfect season to hike, but some of the best hiking is not really social distancing because the trails are too narrow.
What is everyone doing to stay busy and activities you're doing to help stay active in the new lifestyle?
I've been doing some coloring, playing some online games. I've been baking for the family 😂 I don't eat any of it but I keep making it. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm bored.

I was just whining about my lack of energy today, I'm looking forward to this emergence of energy I've heard about post wls. I'm cleaning my room and working on a closet, it will probably take me until Tuesday to finish. Geesh, I haven't statred exercising yet and today is my one month surgiversary. Going to start the resistance bands and walking my neighborhood.

@Lily66 sounds like we are in the same boat exactly. Surgery 3/9, so about 3.5wks and I struggle with energy, too. I force myself to walk 1.5 -3miles most days. Calories 600-800. I will admit that yesterday I messed up my counts and ended up eating way more and had quite a bit more energy today, so thinking that is definitely part of it. But I’m not willing to do it again since I’m not willing to risk gaining or stalling to do it 🤪. Guess it’s just going to take time and patience.

I always order normal, but never like i did pre surgery. The food sits too long in the fridge and then has to go in the trash.. Now.. automatically half goes in the freezer and i am 16 months out.. almost 17.

So while we are sheltering in place and cooking at home here in Massachusetts, I wanted to get Thai food delivered as a special treat. And I ordered what I used to order pre-surgery: Steamed vegetables and chicken. But one of my friends was talking about bubble tea today and I wanted one. And the coconut Soup looked so good. And since I'm not going anywhere, I got a shrimp roll in rice paper for tomorrow. The food came! So exciting!
I made it through the soup and half the bubble tea before I was DONE. I totally ordered like I never had surgery. I guess I have food for the rest of the week now!
Just curious if anyone else has done this.

I haven’t ordered yet like I’ve not had surgery but I’ve been driving past a Taco Bell recently really wanting a crunchy taco. I wanted it really bad. I’m 4 weeks post op, no way is tummy going to handle a crunchy taco but I get it.

Yep, that one last bite isn't the same as before surgery. My mind was thinking, you are eating such a small amount of food, the one more bite isn't going to hurt. Oh does it hurt and terribly bad.
My goal is to monitor what my full is, before I physically feel full. This is my immediate goal during April, learning "Ariel's " likes, dislikes, when she's had enough without hurting both of us, lol.

Yes, I think I started taking swallows around 2 months post-op. I am now almost 4 months post-op and I can take a swallow, but not a BIG swallow.

It took a few weeks, but I can "drink" fairly normally now. I can't full on chug Water, but I can take fairly normal mouthfuls without any discomfort now. The farther along you get with your recovery, the more you will be able to do things comfortably. ❤️ Hang in there.

Greetings from NYC. After having resided in Northern California for ten years I learned to always keep in stock essentials and small bills so when the stay at home order hit we were pretty well prepared and didn’t have to run out to purchase anything. NYC is not a city designed for stockpiling, at least not for the average citizen, so people do have to go outside at least weekly to buy food and do laundry. I’m very proud of my adopted City as New Yorkers truly do pull together during a crisis. Don’t believe what you see in movies about rude New Yorkers—it’s really not true.

As for weightloss...I’ve actually lost more weight during this lockdown. Don’t know why, but I think knowing that I can’t get out whenever I want has made me more careful with what I eat. I’m finding little projects to do and dancing to YouTube videos so actually being more active now than I was before the lockdown. Being stuck indoors with my 22 year old daughter, who walks around singing “im so bored” is the only challenging aspect of this experience. I’m fortunate to have two bathrooms, a large terrace and washer and dryer in the building so life for us has not really changed. Thinking about volunteering but my daughter freaks out when I say that because of my age. It’s hard knowing that my neighbors might be struggling and doing nothing about it. I’m so proud of my fellow Americans for pulling together through these trying times. Well, there is one thing I’m struggling with and that’s not being able to physically see any of my grandchildren. I have three in NJ and two in Texas. Had flight booked for April 14 to visit Texas and still haven’t cancelled the flights but now that we have a travel advisory that trip won’t be happening. Wishing everyone peace and good health.

Sorry to hear about your trip, I hope you guys at least got to hop on the phone together. I've been staying connected with zoom meetings, had my whole family on this Sunday and it was great to see their faces.
I'm in Maryland so the shelter in place order came just yesterday. Fortunately, as a dog walker, I can still get out everyday to serve those clients who have essential roles, so that's helped a lot.
I cannot get all my protein from food. I'm still drinking a shake everyday. I'm also a big fan of Keto, so while I'm focused on protein, I'm not shying away from full fat cheese(don't tell on me). I've had almost no veggies!!! I miss them so much, but I just have no room.
I'm in a stall at the moment, only lost .4lbs this week. So annoying, but hoping to see the results in my measurements which im terrible at taking. Also feeling lucky I had surgery before all of this or I'd be mostly binge eating while stuck at home. I'd totally take .4 down than 10-20 up, so silver linings I guess.
