    Food Before and After Photos

I can’t eat eggs now. They make me so sick since my VSG to RNY at the beginning of August. The fried food was definitely a mistake though.

This is actually the after picture. Was really craving battered fish for like a week. Ate 1/4 of the fish, a battered shrimp, 1/2 a hush puppy, a popcorn shrimp, and a French fry. I need a smoothie after all that grease. 🤢

    Food Before and After Photos

First time posting meals but I did read through almost the first 100 pages of the thread. Let me just say, there was a lot of salad and yogurt... and I plan to continue that trend. 😂 Breakfast was 1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek with 2tbsp peanut butter powder and 1/4 cup frozen berries. Ended up eating the rest for first dinner (5pm). Oh, and no sugar added hot chocolate with a scoop unflavored protein powder (not pictured). Lunch was 1/2 cup cottage with 2 slices roasted turkey slices and sautéed with 1/4c onion, 1/4 cup zucchini some garlic, and some garlic chili sauce. Second Dinner 7pm was a low carb tortilla crusted with shredded cheese blend and dipped in 1/4 cup simply ragu. Ended up eating the whole thing over an hour.

Please let me know how these are because those Fritos were a favorite snack before WLS.

    Scale Torture

Weight can fluctuate up to +/-10lbs a day based on hormones, food, water intake, exercise, and time of day. I wouldn’t worry about it so much. I’m terrible at stepping on a scale more than I should but I don’t let it control how I’m feeling or hinder my progress.

    Gastric sleeve post-op dizzy

Mine isn’t related to weight loss but aortic insufficiency. I get dizzy from laying down to sitting and sitting to standing. Sometimes I get dizzy just sitting still. I would definitely bring it up to your doctor.

    Developed Diabetes After Surgery

Blood sugars usually always rise 15-20 minutes after a carb laden meal. The test is to see if they remain high after an hour (usually over 160) or are over 100 upon waking. I would keep a log with when you tested and last ate for a week and scheduled an appointment with your PCP for an A1C?

    Is pasta really taboo?

Pasta is a high calorie, practically nutritionally devoid food that will fill your sleeve in place of better nutrient rich foods like zucchini, spinach, mushrooms, avocado (fiber, potassium and healthy fats), and even potatoes (good source of potassium and vitamin c) though they aren’t great. That’s probably the main reason why were told to stay away. Which, to be honest, doesn’t bother me much because I’ve never liked pasta.
  10. I’ve had 4 of the FL UGIs this year. They aren’t terrible but the gastrografin is worse tasting than the barium although neither one is particularly great tasting. If you have issues with vertigo then I would let them know before you begin the testing. They may have you do all the moving yourself instead of using the table options. Good luck. Hopefully they find out what’s going on so you can feel better.

    Weight gain post revision

I went in for my revision on 8/11 weighing 212 and at my week post op on 8/19 I weighed 215. I know it was from fluid because I got 6+ bags of IV fluids in the 4 days post op in the hospital.

    Pressure and Bloat

When I did my pre-op for my VSG I had loose stools and was gassy. When I did my pre-op for my VSG to RNY revision I was constipated and bloated even with the same diet. Some people experience loose stools and lots of gas with a mostly or all liquid diet. Just depends on your body and how it wants to handle things. Hang in there, the loose stools and gassiness didn’t last forever for me, just a few days so hopefully the same for you!

    Dumping

It’s called dumping syndrome. It’s when you eat something that doesn’t agree with you and can cause fast heart rate, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and other issues for several hours after eating the offending food. I dumped super heavy right after surgery on all ready drink vanilla protein shakes. That was only 3.5 weeks ago and I’m scared to drink them again but my stomach hurts 15-30 minutes after drinking any protein shake or powder now. 😭 Hopefully this isn’t the case forever.

Little Weight Loss on Pre-OP & None Post-Surgery

Definitely sounds like IV fluids. I went in for a VSG to RNY revision (hernia and GERD) on 8/11 and weighed 212. I spent 4 days in the hospital on IV fluids. I had my first post op on 8/19 and weighed 215. Just stick with it and trust the process. You will lose weight.

VSG to RNY due to Gerd

I had a VSG December 2019. In March ended up developing a hiatal hernia and severe GERD. It was so bad I was on protonix, Pepcid, ans Tums for the reflux. I had also developed intractable hiccups esophagitis from the GERD. I had a VSG to RNY on 8/11 so I’m only 3 weeks out. I will say that I don’t remember being in this much pain after my VSG but the GERD is pretty much gone as far as I can tell. Still on the protonix twice a day until I’m 3months post-op.
  16. I had a VSG to RNY on 8/11. I was in a ton of pain in the hospital for most of the visit. When I left I was prescribed pain medication and ended up taking the whole thing over the course of the last couple weeks which is something I’ve never done before. Ive resorted to taking Tylenol several times a day along with icyhot on areas that feel like pulled muscles. I’m even using a heating pad most of the day as well. I’ve even resorted to using one of those motorized carts when doing the shopping because if I don’t, I can’t stand for long periods of time. I can also tell if I go long times between eating. I accidentally skipped breakfast the other day because I wasn’t hungry and my shoulder and stomach were in so much pain. I’m also in pain around 20 minutes after I get done eating right where my stomach would be. Im starting to feel like I’m old and frail instead of in my mid 30’s! Is this pretty much par for the course or do I need to call my doctor? My next appointment isn’t until Thursday.

    GERD, PPI's and low WBC

You could talk to them about switching to an H2 blocker (Pepcid) instead of a PPI (Protonix). I had to take both (and tums for breakthrough reflux) for about a month because the reflux was so bad before my VSG to RNY revision I was having hiccups I couldn’t deal with anymore.
  18. For my VSG it was about a month. For my VSG to RNY revision 15 days but also took an appeal after denial. The whole process from first file to approval of appeal took 32 days.
  19. I called my surgeon’s office today because he submitted for a VSG to RYGB and was told it was denied because they want me to do 6months of supervised weight loss. I just had my VSG in December 2019! plus, their reason isn’t even listed under the revision surgery section in the handbook. Since then I’ve developed a new hiatal hernia, GERD to my mid esophagus and esophagitis. Of course I’ll file an appeal but I’m just frustrated. I’m sick of only getting 4-5hrs of sleep a night because the chest pain from the GERD is so bad it wakes me up. Im sick of taking the max allowed PPIs on top of 8-12 tums a day, and Thorazine for the hiccups causes by the GERD. I sent my surgeon a message asking for another prescription because I can’t take it anymore. I'm jus so frustrated. I just don’t want to be in pain anymore.

    I still can't drink water

I had a similar problem. Powerade zero and Gatorade zero helped a bunch. I also had a lot of luck with broths as well. Being able to drink water by itself again came back around 3-4 months after surgery. Just try and stay hydrated any day you can.

    EGD experiences

I’ve had 2 and I remember neither of the actual procedures just the prep and waking up after. Bit of a sore throat and groggy after but back to normal the next day. 😊

    Stating Pre-Op diet today

I’d have died without it. Literally had different flavors for different cravings.

    Stating Pre-Op diet today

Drink lots of water and if you’re allowed chew sugar free gum. I found the gum helped a ton with the need to chew.

I may have a small problem...

I’m currently on my second round of pre-op diet as I had a VSG in December 2019 and am having a revision to RNY in a few days but over the last year I’ve amassed quite a collection of protein powder and drinks. I’ve gone through 2 other 2lb tubs of the syntrax nectars and I’ve lost count of the protein shakes. But yeah, I may be hoarding protein powder and shakes. Anyone else do this? I need to know I’m not alone. 😂
