You can buy seaweed face punches on Amazon for around $8-$10. I used to use one when my kids were younger for their bento boxes. They also sell fun veggie cutters for hearts and flowers!

Where I live we have this Chipotle-esque place that I enjoy. I’m actually surprised by how much I was able to eat! Lil’ Burrito bowl (kid’s size)- pinto beans, double steak, Monterey Jack cheese, onions, corn salsa, pico salsa, fajita vegetables, banana peppers, sweet habanero sauce and queso. Also ate 4 tortilla chips with it.

To be fair, I did eat about 7 or 8 small bits of broccoli but it was kind of on the mushy side and protein first for me since surgery has been helpful. I think next time I’ll cook it less though so it might not be as mushy. I had much more veggies today though.

I’m a week out from an emergency internal hernia repair (who knew that was a complication of LGBP because I didn’t!). Anywho eating has been ROUGH the last week. Most days I only average 400-500 calories and that’s with a protein shake. Found a healthy choice steamer bowl in the freezer my sister left (woohoo!) Normally 190 calories, 28g of protein, 5g of fat, and 8g of carbohydrates for the whole thing. Ate about half? My kid snatched the rest while asking if I was full after a half hour. Yes, kid, go ahead I’m totally done with it.

    Feet

I went from a women’s US 11 wide at my heaviest to a current 8.5-9 depending on the shoe. I put on my oldest’s shoes on accident the other day because they’re the same color as mine and was like “hmm this feels a bit snug.” But I guess a well worn 7 1/2 fits in some cases, too. 😂

    Tracking apps

I use SparkPeople (the website and app). The website lets you track inches, mood, stress, sleep, etc. along with groups you can join with fun challenges like staying up on water intake and exercise. The tracking for inches and weight also shows in a line graph over time so you can see trending. The app I use mostly for tracking food and status updates along with weight logging (even though I could use the website). I don’t much use the exercise tracker although it has loads of options for it. Here’s what the weight tracker part of the app looks like. The inches tracker looks the same on the website.

    Post surgery liquid diet help??

Have you tried straining cream based soups or making a thin smoothie? I know those helped me a lot during that stage.

Why different diets from different doctors?

There are as many plans as there are surgeons and patients. My surgeon has a dietitian in house that I see. They worked together on recommended items for their post surgery guidelines, which is what they call it instead of a plan. These are the pages for the purée stage including recipes from my guidelines.

    Privacy concerns...?

I work at the hospital I had mine done at. I still have coworkers who don’t know I’ve had it done but I do let them know if I think they should (covering breaks for small meals or snacks). All of my coworkers who do know have never once said a negative thing to me. Just let them know if they do find out that their opinion of what you do with your body has no bearing on what you and your medical team feels is best for you.

    Show Us Your Macros

Thanks! I’ve spent the last week practically moping around and laying on the couch. Not much else I can do with a 6 inch midline incision. But eating was better today so far. Multigrain crackers and peanut butter for breakfast and salmon and cream cheese for lunch.

Yesterday was my highest calorie day in a week as I’m currently 6 days post op from an internal hernia repair. 853 calories 78g carbs 37g fat 49g protein My other post op days were around 250-400 calories because I just was too sick to eat.

    Hairless after surgery

I didn’t notice but then again, I shaved my head at month 3 post op VSG. I did however notice lots of new prickly hairs the month after I had my revision (9months post VSG). It didn’t bother me too much just felt weird growing back in. I do take hair skin and nail gummies most days and my hair 8 months from shaving is now between ear and shoulder length and my hair had always grown slow before surgery.

    Terrified- surgery Tues

Each surgeon is different as is each patient. With my sleeve I was in patient overnight and got a dose of heparin before surgery and another the next day. I didn’t go home on blood thinners. Walking really helps with preventing blood clots so make sure you move but don’t overdo it either. If you have any questions you can always call your surgeon. Make sure you have a ride home though; they won’t let you drive yourself post-op. That said, sleeve surgery only takes about 90 minutes to complete so most of your stay will be waiting pre-op and in post-op recovery. Your fears about Covid aren’t without merit. Surgery does affect the immune system for a short while after. If you can avoid crowds and any excessive trips outside your home, I’d do that. Recovering during a pandemic is scary! I’ve been there. I had revision surgery due to GERD in August and I stayed home as much as possible. It made me feel safer and I was less nervous about catching Covid that way.

    Food Before and After Photos

1 cup mesclun mix 1oz president Mediterranean herb feta 25g cucumbers 1tbsp Kroger brand cranberry almond salad toppers 5g balsamic vinegar Pink of pink Himalayan salt Restriction hit right after I had finished so I’ll have to drink my protein shake later.
  15. I was the same way after my revision. When I hit solid foods though, oh man there was a huge difference. I still have days 3 months out where even a 1/4 cup of things like pumpkin seeds (thoroughly chewed) or a couple bites of chicken make me hurt. Lots of people notice more restrictions when they get to solid foods and dense protein so try and just wait and see.

General Tso’s chicken- I actually ate a small piece before I took the picture. I might eat some more later but I doubt it. 3 days of the same meal and I’m kinda burnt out on it.

    Food Before and After Photos

Before surgery I’d have eaten both breakfast sandwiches and all 4 hashbrowns and drank a large iced coffee with it and be hungry a couple hours later. Now though? Half a hashbrown and half a sandwich and no coffee. The rest of the hashbrowns and sandwiches got split between kids and my sister who also got my coffee. 😂

    New Tastebuds

I used to hate smooth peanut butter by itself (as opposed to in baked goods) and now find it’s ok with pretzels or on a wasa cracker. For a while after my VSG the only liquid aside from protein shakes I could drink was grape Powerade zero (super weird). After my revision though water tastes so good so it’s much easier now. There have definitely been times I craved something and it turned out to be just meh. I’m just glad I haven’t lost my love of spinach! And oddly, my tolerance for spicy foods has gone up and I enjoy it more. 🤷‍♀️

Revision to Bypass due to Gerd

Revision surgery was the best thing I ever did to reduce my GERD. I was only 8 months post VSG when I had my revision so still in weight loss so I can’t answer the question as to whether or not it’ll cause further weight loss for you. I’m almost 3 months post VSG to RNY revision and I’ll admit I only take my protonix when I remember and will be talking with my surgeon about discontinuing it at my next visit. Before revision surgery I was taking 2 40mg protonix, 60mg Pepcid, and upwards of 12 tums a day. I also no longer aspirate while sleeping and I don’t have any more hiccups that were worsening daily for over 4 months for which I’m sure my coworkers are also grateful!

    2 week stall... HELP

I know it is. It can be so defeating mentally. Just know that the scale will start moving again. Some things that have helped me move past a stall is- changing up exercise or walking more, alternating my calories on different days (some days it’s 600 and others up to 1000), working on stress management, and getting more sleep. I work nights so the days I work I’m sleeping 5-6 hours so on my days off I catch up on sleep.

    2 week stall... HELP

It’s super common for people to stall around 3 weeks post op. Your body is getting used to it’s new normal. It will start moving again soon.

    Can't drink any fluids

What did your doctor end up saying? For a while after my VSG all I could drink was grape Powerade zero or Walmart brand grape water bottle packets; I don’t know what it was but definitely strange as I hated artificial grape anything before surgery. After my VSG to RNY revision though it was much easier to drink anything except if it was icy cold. In that case it would come right back up. Now that I’m a few months out from revision it’s much easier to get in cold drinks.

Hi from UK (new ) , liver shrink diet

Hi, Not from the UK but both of my pre-op diets were 600-800 calories and consisted of 4 protein shakes a day along with celery and cucumbers. I was also allowed to have up to 2 cups of broth a day and as much water, plain tea and coffee as I wanted. No popsicles or sugar free jello on mine.

    Food Before and After Photos

As a kid on spaghetti night I’d eat a bowl of meat sauce and dip garlic bread into it. Pasta just has a weird texture that I don’t like.
