Khoric Ritter got a reaction from Suzq328 in Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Mine has been re-re-re-re scheduled now to June 4th.
I feel sorry for the poor nurse who has to keep calling all the patients to keep pushing these dates back. I laughing told her over the phone if its changed again, I was probably going to have to riot. She laughed and said she would bring the poster board if I bought the markers and we could stand around together. LOL.
Its been hard, because after so long of having to get the funds up (cash pay customer because our insurance sucks), getting all the tests done, getting the PTO saved up, I'm at the finish line (of a 5 year ordeal) getting ready to cross it and its like theres a huge STOP sign before I am able to cross it.

LOL! I like it. I have not named my stomach. However, after watching Labyrinth with my girlfriend the other day, she has now named my butt 'The Bog of Eternal Stench.' 😂

I do a lot of cosplay (some of it being cosplay with volunteering) , and I tend to go over board when it comes to hand written scrolls , So the handmade cards is a really awesome idea. The plants is a good idea too. Though most would probably kill a fake one before the day was out. (LOL).
The hospital I am having the WLS done at, holds a yearly gastric walk/run. Several of us have already started planning on joining in on it to Celebrate. (Team Sippn' & Strolln')

I have let a few people aware of my upcoming WLS. There have been a handful of those few, who have been amazingly overly supportive.
Anywhere from giving cash/gift cards with the "for smaller clothes and needed supplies", to bringing me supplies (they had WLS before and new what was going to be needed), to my husbands boss pre-giving him off the 3 days I am going to be in the hospital. To everything in between. Its been the same here at my job. The support from several fellow employees has been awesome. Asking questions, being aware, sitting down and going over everything, so they know what to expect before and after WLS , when I am back to work. Etc.
I really want to do something for these amazing handful of people. We have been saving up , so we had extra funds ready for clothes/extras etc. (Many knew that insurance didnt cover, and was shelling out 16k for the operation. ) When I was gifted items, I always sent thank you cards with a small note of exactly what was purchased with the funds. Etc.
But I want to do more. Like these little 10cent Thank you cards just don't seem enough for the awesome support (that is hard to find when it comes to WLS).
I have thought about doing some fun Thank you cards, maybe with some corney WLS joke and then like a small ($25) gift card and be like "treat your self" type of thing.
I would love to have input on what everyone thinks (and maybe some corney/pun WLS jokes) . ❤️

I'd echo the poster who said your recognition of it not being a magic bullet is a very positive thing. It isn't. And when you succeed you understand it's the beginning of a longer journey, I went down to 8 stone 2 (114lbs) and now 9stone 9 (134lbs). I'm 5"4. I was too thin at the lower weight, but went up to 140 and felt worried about the creeping gain. Then I realised I was playing stupid games with sugar and that sugar was as dangerous to me as booze or drugs are (I'm in recovery most of my adult life)l

The point is we eat, use, whatever it is, for a reason. And the more of our behaviours we strip away, the more we're left facing our essential selves, and that is not fun.

So, invest in your mind too: do therapy if you can afford it, research other ways of reflection if you can't. I'm in the uk and paid for my op. I'm still paying for it but it's ok. I LOVE being slim. It gives me at least one smile every day, but the trick is learning there are other things to smile about.

So yes, feel your fear, excitement, anticipation, terror even. Feel it all. And throw yourself into a fabulous journey into the unknown - you!

I do not have an in stone date yet, as I have to pass a BEGIN class and pay for the sleeve in full (Which happens this Monday); before they will let me get my paws on the doctors operation appointment book. But I have been in constant chat with her and thus far we are shooting for an end of March (3/30) date and she says that is extremely do-able.
The more and more I look at a calendar the more and more nervous I get LOL.

Khoric Ritter got a reaction from jami.1992 in Did any of you keep your surgery a secret? I have! Please give input!
Last year when I was talking about it, I posted it publicly to friends and family. I got A LOT of kick back. Even to the point of losing a friend or two. (*shrugs* true colors showing)
Fast forward to now, and I have the funds saved up to have the sleeve done. My husband and mother are the only ones in family who know. My co-workers know, because being with them 50 hours a week, they are an awesome support team. As far as friends, there is a select handful that I have told, only due to 2 of them actually having bypass/sleeve and them offering to mentor and help as needed.
I was blindsided on how people are about the operation. It seemed like either they were 100% for it, or 100% not. Very few looked at the fact that its something for my health. I was blind sided by those who gave me so much grief for thinking about getting it done.
Its an odd fine line. And if you come across those who you do tell and they are majorly supportive and helpful. Cling to them with major hugs.

For on the go: I would do the 4oz ball canning jars with the wide mouths.
Here's the link for the canning jars from Amazon (affiliate)

I like them cuz you can freeze, chill and nuke in em. BPA free.

I eat from side plates and small tapas bowls. I use splades a lot - I think you call them sporks? Fork spoon combo?
I like eating yogurt with a teaspoon too @catwoman7. Sometimes I just dip the spoon in not scoop it.
I cut my meat into small pieces before I put it on my plate. Helps to eat slowly & keep each bite small.
snack size ziplock bags (15x10cm - 5x3in) for freezing leftovers & batch cooking - perfect serving size.
I eyeball when I’m out - anything that would fit in my cupped palm is about the right amount of food (but I do have smallish hands).

I record all my food in a diary for the day - not the volumes or calories, just what I've eaten so I know if I'm overdoing it.

    I chew everything a lot.

I also can't stand people that eat quickly! And sugar makes me feel seriously ill.

@FluffyChix - I had a friend give me these 1/2 cup mini tupper ware pieces. And I -think- I have some ramekins at home, but Ill have to do some deep cabinet cleaning. LOL
@cajunredpanda - I am the same way with cold Water, its a must. Though when it comes to water, its hard for me to keep track in a cup, so I normally end up toting around a few bottles with numbers on them. (Im horrible at it. LOL except for the time I kept a gal at my desk with a long straw. ) Love teas!!! If you ever look for something interesting, I order all of my teas via Adagio Teas. You can custom make blends and how much. I do a lot of the little tins.

Thank you everyone for your input! While getting so much major info on everything, its always great to get the little things as well. ❤️

Been making little lists of items to get (like tiny spoons) to go ahead and get and have ready.
JRT MOM - The bowls with the internal etching is an awesome idea!!! I have some small dipping type cups that this would be awesome inside of.

I have a plastic collapsible one half cup measuring cup that goes everywhere with me. I know if I try eyeballing the food I'll eat too much. I started with the tiny spoons but once I got used to eating little bites I stopped using them. I also use the 8 oz ramekins--mine have a decorative etching around them that is one half cup.

I forgot to mention that I use my 8 oz ramekins A LOT. It's easy to know how much food I'm eating when I just put it in there - don't even need some intermediary measuring device. I know it's a cup. Or half a cup. They come in different sizes - 4 oz, 6 oz, etc - but the 8 oz ones are OK for me. I usually eat a cup or half cup of things, so it's easy enough to gauge that when I'm using an 8 oz ramekin.

I love the toddler spoons and forks . I know some say you don’t need them but I’m glad I got them. Also, those Jell-O shot cups . They are great for storing 2oz of food.

I measure everything out but from personal experience it seems really hard to over eat and if you do 😬 you will really not want to get to that point again ... I’m still early in the game though so it could change
