mike2019 got a reaction from Jan N in Surgery this month, wife threatening divorceMy wife wasn't supportive of me having WLS surgery either in the early rounds, but she warmed up to it. She was scared of losing her bad-habit-eating buddy.
Now, believe it or not, she enjoys many of the leaner meals I cook up for us. And of course she is loving a leaner husband!

mike2019 got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Help im lost. Stage 3I know right where you're at! Soups are your best friend right now. Protein shakes will supplement your daily requirement.
I was SO SICK of bone broth from the pre surgery diet, but I was chugging down all the other soups and loving it. By week 2 or 3 I was on soft foods and I was off and running.

mike2019 got a reaction from Sammi_Katt in Regrets?I went in with the mindset that my "new stomach" will come with special instructions which I will follow to the letter. This is my easy excuse to get out of peer pressure situations when drinks and treats are going around.
Sure I have a bad day here and there, it happens to all of us. I try to keep the mistakes small.
Whenever I feel that I'm about to go astray, I tell myself that I didn't have this surgery only to revert back to my old habits once again. I reflect on my recent accomplishments and all is well!

mike2019 got a reaction from breavsg in 4 days post opI was strictly on clear liquids for the first week. I had to use laxatives for the first couple weeks every few days to keep things going. I was given a script at the hospital. Now I use a product called Jarrows Gentle Fibers that I add to a morning protein smoothie to keep myself naturally regular without popping laxatives. There are also low-cal/low-carb wraps that you can find at the stores that contain decent amounts of fiber in them.
Week 2 or 3 they put me on soft foods, until 3 months post surgery. Then I can transition to regular foods (I kinda am already....just using a food processor when needed). But I micromanage the hell outta my diet with the baritastic app.

mike2019 got a reaction from smb123 in Surgery TomorrowGood news for you the hard part is over.
First night is uncomfortable. I had that too. I was getting dilaudid along with steady doses of pain pills first night. I didn't get much sleep that night due to waking up for more pain meds.
Next day nurse took me for a slow paced half lap around the ward. Felt so good to move a little we did another full lap. I was ancy to get dressed and go home after that!
Once I was home, pain was easily managed by scheduled doses of pain meds. By Day 4, I only took them when I felt pain coming back. Make sure you have at least 4-5 days of pain meds when you get discharged and MAKE THEM LAST. You may or may not need them all. I was pain pill free before end of first week.

mike2019 got a reaction from smb123 in Surgery TomorrowYou may have some gas in your body from the surgery that gives mild discomfort, but no worries it is gone by day 2 or 3. Short walks and moving around helped me get it all out. I was completely off pain meds before 1st week was over.

mike2019 got a reaction from smb123 in Surgery TomorrowBe calm going in surgery day and next thing you know you'll be resting in the recovery room. They'll keep you nice and numbed up the first night, and you'll be home before you know it, eager to work the new diet.

mike2019 reacted to CMUGiRL in How do you "doctor" your cottage cheese? One of my favorite recipes is Cottage Cheese Pancakes. Make sure that you undercook them when you are on the mushy stage so that they smash well with your fork. The recipe is loaded with protein too!
2 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons of water, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons sour cream, 3/4 cup of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of Sugar Free Maple Syrup. In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients. Put some spray butter in the frying pan and cook until both sides are golden brown flipping once. Serve with unsweetened applesauce. This is so yummy. Not to mention, you can add more sugar free Maple Syrup before servingp; but I find it sweet enough mixed in the batter. My husband and son add more to their pancakes though. Also, my husband does not touch sour cream or cottage cheese and I never tell him what I make it with just that its pancakes. Well, try it and let me know what you think.

mike2019 got a reaction from Losingit2018 in First Day on Soft FoodI have some lean turkey and chicken buddig meat to try. Also got some 3oz portion cans of tuna...(definitely without the crackers for a while), but it was on my allowed list along with corn tortilla. Got some street taco sized mini ones I may try a piece of one with some refried beans.

mike2019 reacted to FluffyChix in Too Much Soup for One Meal? You can use Fairlife FF milk to add protein without making hugely caloric too! You can also stir in a spoon of Greek yogurt to make it richer and add to the protein content. You can also add nutritional yeast to up the B vitamins and also add a little parmesan to up the protein as well!

mike2019 reacted to ?VeGan❤️HeArT? in WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ISSUE WITH CARBONATED DRINKS??? & other questions! My surgeon told me no carbonated drinks for the rest of my life after surgery. He told me the carbonation stretches the stomach. After giving me the idea of a shaking soda, and my hard work being all stretched out...I’ll never touch a soda, it’s just not worth it to me.

mike2019 reacted to froufrou in When do you get rid of clothes?I've been getting rid of mine as I go along - taking them to charity shops or keeping them aside to sell on ebay. I kept a couple of pieces of my largest size, just to remind me.

mike2019 reacted to SlimChickadee in Too Much Soup for One Meal?Yes, me too! I was concerned as well until I read some of the remarks here and my first post-op I told my doctor about it and he didn't seem concerned now, on Christmas day I will transition to the Pureed stage and I barely can now take in half a can of the soup. I think as each one has said is that the nerves are starting to talk to one another and now I am feeling the results of the RNY.

mike2019 reacted to AJ Tylo in Too Much Soup for One Meal?No rubber stopper in the stomach drain - Be careful you send to much thru and going to be a blow out, I could handle a can of soup and water also but would pace it over 15 minutes or so
