Im in the hands of the Insurance now!!!
ugh, I'm totally in the same boat as you right now. I'm actually in North Dakota. But I'm waiting on Tricare Standard to approve me. My doctor's office said they were sending the stuff out. I'm worried I will get denied because my insurance company will probably only do people my age (18-19) in really severe cases. So...who knows. But I have my surgery scheduled and I'm going in for pre-op blood testing and stuff in a day or two. I really don't have to be let down.

Got my Surgery date!!!! what should I do???
YES! I just got my surgery date. July 29th!!! I need to start my protein supplement today though. And as a poor college student...I don't know if I will have enough money... anyone have any tips on what I can do? It might take a week or two to get the protein supplement stuff.

Sex Life
yeah I'm on birth control, two antidepressants, and thyroid medication and my sex drive is...wow...lol neverending. Once again...it's my boyfriend who isn't into it much. I started to think if it was my weight but then again he has Crohn's disease and he's in pain a lot. I really hope once I lose my weight my libido doesn't go up lol...

Confession: Pre-Fill Binge
you know...i see this as a diet really. I mean it's just a reinforced diet. The fact that you slipped up once means nothing. I'm sure everyone has done it. I think you just need to get back on track and be proud of how far you've come. Indulging once in awhile isn't bad, I mean now you can learn that you just have to take one slice of cake instead of the WHOLE cake...it's a learning experience. Don't beat yourself up over it. Good luck with your fill! btw I wouldn't have a major one last supper binge...i'd say make a plate of your favorite foods and eat just a lil of everything...so you don't feel deprived...

Lap band Deaths
by the way you might want to take into consideration : the expeirience of the doctor as well as the hospital it was performed at. If you are a self pay that flew to like...peru to get it done or something...there might be added risks(not saying the hospitals are any worse but even just traveling at putting yourself at risk of infection) And if the doctor has only performed a handful of surgeries...if something should go wrond during surgery it could mean he/she might not know what to do or how to do it well enough to keep you alive... I agree with the "risk in everything." I think this is just a leap of faith...and yea I'm getting the band soon and I'm scared sh*tless still...

Passed Psych Evaluation Today!
wow. well I think I passed mine today too lol. She said she'd say ok but at first she said that I should wait till January because I should be stable at least a YEAR before having the surgery. Unfortunately it's like...I have to do it now while school is out. And I have recurring bouts of depression. I should have lied lol but silly me I told the whole truth and nothing but the truth... Well she said she'd give the ok if I made sure and kept up with my psych doctor and therapy and saw a nutritionist after surgery.

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
o yeah...and this guy i was friends with was after me and this other girl. he chose her and told me...if I grew out my hair and lost weight...THEN he'd go out with me...well I intend to grow out my hair, lose the weight and tell him what a loser he is. Cuz he told me that when i was 175 lbs. Now i'm 260 and my b/f now has been with me since I was 180. He's never mentioned my weight. I even told him (a 20 year old guy) that after i lost weight I might have saggy skin, and he said he didn't care. he just doesn't want my boobs to go lol...anyway my b/f now is the most amazing guy I will ever go out with...lol

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
some that I've heard *in 6th grade some kid was behind me and yelled "God I hate it when fat people get in front of me" *my mom would watch me making Soup for lunch and say how she'd rather have me be anorexic because I'd be rolling to school next year (That's when I was in 6th or 7th grade) *My brother said I should lift weights because I had manly arms *My cousins asked when I was in 5th grade why I had such manly legs. I developed early and was 145 lbs and 5ft tall in 5th grade and with a 34C. Yeah I was awkward. Also I have a friend who is skinny and always says stuff about how we can go walking together and lose weight. She has 10 lbs to lose, I have 140lbs. Oh and the "Oh you're not THAT big." I hate that. And the "You'd be so pretty if you lost weight" or "You would have a great body if you lost that belly"

Is 50% all you can lose?
yeah I'm not even kidding it said: Gastric Bypass loses 80% of excess weight in 1 and 1/2 years and Lap Band loses 50% in 3 to 5 years. Yeah I'm getting it regardless lol but I just thought those stats were a little off.

Fills in ND

How much will I have to pay if I'm approved?
Ok so title says it all. I have a referal and my surgeon's office called and said it looked like I met all requirements for my insurance and everythings going well. I have Tri-Care For Life. How much am I going to have to pay after their coverage? I'm hoping all or 99% or I can't get it. Poor college student, yay!

Is 50% all you can lose?
k so I'm worried because...every pamphlet that was in my doctor's office said you only lose 50% of your excess weight. but it said gastric bypass loses 80%...I mean from what I've seen a lot of people are losing a lot more than 50%...and I'm thinking because I'm only 18 it'll be a little easier...and I'm pretty sure they are just trying to make money. Anyway I decided last Friday night I was for sure doing it. I've already got my seminar done, my referal from my physcian and I filled out the psych evalution questionairres and am going tomorrow morning for my appointment. And my consult with my surgeon is on June 10th...I can't believe this is going so fast...I'm starting to get nervous...

Highest weight? or weight at surgery?
Just wondering what everyone's top weight was. And also if teens have a better shot at losing more of their excess weight and having less of a problem with saggy skin. I still have to go see my doc and get approved but I'm currently 259 and 5'4".
-
Will I get approved?
k well on my insurance's website. I qualify for everything. They can't just up and require me to do a diet before hand if it's not written in their policy can they? I heard a lot of people didn't have to do that for tricare.
-
Will I get approved?
Ok my only reasoning for thinking I won't get approved is I'm only 18(19 in sept). I have been overweight all my life. It runs in my family. I'm currently 5'4" and 259 lbs...with a BMI of 44 or 45. I also have a large bust that I'm hoping the lap band will help. I have acid reflux problems, high cholesterol, hypothyroidism, and depression. I also have joint pains in my knees and ankles. I have a family history of heart attacks, diabetes, gout, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, cancer, asthma, arthritis, and depression. My mom had a heart attack and a five-way bypass at age 40. She had a gastric bypass a few years ago after they gave her 10 years to live, she had congestive heart, liver failure, and a leaking gall bladder. Still I think the benefits out weigh the risks and I feel I am ready to make a healthy lifestyle for myself at a young age. Do you think I'm a good enough candidate for Tri-care For Life to approve me? *I also have been just trying to MAINTAIN my weight since I was 8 and to no success. The smallest size i can remember was a woman's size 10 at age 8. Please get back to me on this.
