eporter got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in December Surgery dates???
Surgery was Monday 12/16, the gas pain is the worst but once I got to my room them gave me morphine and I was able to rest. I felt so exhausted, I slept all day after surgery lol. Got to go home yesterday. Pain is controlled with a full ache/uncomfortable feeling. I was kind of dehydrated pre surgery so I’m doing my best to drink as much fluids as possible which is hard because I want a big gulp of ice Water and that’s just not happening lol. I’m taking liquid oxycodone, ondasetron, something for stomach pain/cramps and Pepcid. Since I’ve been home I’ve slept, taken meds, trying to walk around and took a nice shower before bed. I have this tummy support band I used when I was pregnant and it feels good today, like putting a little pressure on my stomach which feels good as well as using a heating pad. My incisions are fine except for the biggest one, it hurts and leaked a little bit of clearish pink Fluid at the hospital, the dr looked at it and send it was normal. I’ve had diluted apple juice, some chicken broth, Jello which tasted so sweet and a SF popsicle which was extra sweet as well. Ready for the pain to subside!!

I use my planner as it has slots for Water intake. Also if you download the Baritastic Social app, it has a simple water tracker

I just had revision to bypass. I was taking dulcolax, Miralax, mom, Smooth Move tea. Was constipated for 5 days until dr office told me to try an enema and magnesium citrate. I was told that if I had not gone by the evening of the fifth night I needed to go to er. You do not want to deal with obstruction or compaction. Nothing to take lightly.

This question “comes up” all the time. I think the best response I have read is that generally they prefer you to wait until you are home from hospital

eporter reacted to jlb8080 in 5 days post op! My story this far.
Things are going great! Was sleeved on 12/12. After surgery I came out of anesthesia coughing and was brought to the recovery room and then hospital room. It was very uncomfortable. Had gas from the laparoscopy in my back which made sleeping in the hospital bed HARD! Hooked up to machines, tossing and turning most of the time I was there. Surgery was around 10:30AM, I was up walking around 6pm. They gave me ice chips to eat the first night. The next morning they did the swallow and leak test. All was well so I got to try some broth, lemonade and a popsicle. Didn’t get a lot down but enough for them to let me out around 3pm that day. The first day was the hardest as I was walking out the gas pain and each day gets better. Today, day 5, I’m home and have zero pain. Haven’t needed pain meds since the night before last. I have been doing housework and relaxing, sipping on my Protein Drink and Water and some creamy Soups. All in all, not bad at all. I am gonna take one more day off work and go back day 7. I have a desk job and I feel it’s pretty simple to incorporate in. I know I had a lot of questions and read so many different things pre-op, but it’s not until you go through it you know what YOU’LL experience. Today I wish I could have solid foods, but am doing ok on liquids. It’s a day to day thing at the beginning from what I’m seeing. Anyone wanna add about their immediate post-op experiences I would love to hear about them.

Hey everyone! Just joined here today for support, info and guidance. I'm scheduled for the sleeve on 12/23. Starting to get nervous, anxious and second guessing myself. All normal feelings I'm sure.

Gastric sleeve done yesterday (Tues, 12/10).
Things are going better than I expected. Not nauseated, but headache and very dizzy upon standing. The incisions don't bother me at all. Sipping liquids very slowly and have to keep sitting up straight. Otherwise I can feel a slight pain in there. My doctor's orders are Clear Liquids only for first week. My throat is sore and my lower lip kinda beat up. No pain meds necessary so far. Did have pretty bad gas pains right between and below my breasts. Everybody in the recovery room was burping gas. I finally did the same and it really helped. So far so good I guess.

Good morning!! I’m very new here, I ran across the site yesterday and thought I’d go ahead and sign up!
I’m 29 years old and a mom of 2. I just got married March 29th this year but we’ve been together for 7 years!
I started my journey March 22nd, 2019. I went to my initial consult one week before my wedding day lol. I didn’t know if I really wanted to have surgery at that point but the thought had crossed my mind many times so I began the process. I waited until after our honeymoon and for the wedding excitement to calm a bit before starting monthly PCP visits.

At my consult in March I was 292lb but at my visit to my pcp in May I was 312lb...wtf lol. Happy weight maybe? It needed to go..since my 2nd PCP visit on 6/25/19 I’ve lost 30lb so I’m pretty happy with the work I’ve put in so far. My husband had no idea I weighed over 300lb but I’m “proportionate” so it’s hard to tell exactly, but I knew.

Anyway. I spent my 6 months researching and educating myself on this surgery, reading others stories, the good and the bad. I’m definitely having the surgery and I’m excited!

Today is actually my pre op visit with surgery set for December 16th!
I’m open to any advice, suggestions, or stories! I’m excited to y’all with you guys!

I’m on day 6 of my preop liquid diet. Things I have learned.

liquid in means liquid out. Be aware.
chicken broth makes this even worse!
    Don’t trust farts
You’ll be tempted to cheat. Don’t do it. Find something else to distract you.
Plan on hiding from people. It’s too hard to be around food.
Stock up before your diet starts. It’s too are to be in the grocery store.
Good luck!!!! You can do this!

eporter reacted to Jenny867 in 12/2/19 was my sleeve surgery date
Hello, I’m Jenny. I’m 38 years old, married to a wonderful and supportive guy, and a mother to two great kids. I had the sleeve done on Monday December 2nd with one overnight hospital stay. I went home on oxygen for when I’m at rest because of the elevation/altitude of where I live, which is near Denver. I’m 5’5” and was 295 pre-op. My goal is to lose 100 pounds and go from there. I have told very few people about my surgery because I don’t want to hear about how I took the easy way out. Nothing else I’ve tried has worked to lose weight and keep it off.

This is my second day post-op, and I am very sore. I’m trying to get my Fluid intake up and in a good spot, but it’s been hard. My stomach feels like I’ve been kicked a few times and it looks that way in spots where I’ve bruised. I don’t want to discourage anyone from getting their surgery done... I just wanted to write out how I’m doing so far. I hear it gets easier on the 3rd day.

Good luck!!!! Just think of the early jump in weight loss you will have going into surgery!
It's interesting how ever doctor's pre-op diet is slightly different, some shorter or longer too!

I had my first Protein Shake today and struggled to even finish it. There is 20g of Protein in it and my stomach felt so full! I can have Water, propel, Vitamin water zero, mio, Decaf tea. I can only have 2 servings of broth/jello/popsicles per day. My 1 meal has to consist of 3-4 oz of lean meat/fish/chicken, 1 cup of raw veggies or 1/2 cup of cooked veggies and 1 carb that is no more than 15g.

i think it’s really interesting how each surgeon’s preop is different. Some are only clear liquids the day before, others 1-2 week diets. I went to the store and bought Swanson Bone Broth that is microwaveable and has 7g of protein and <1 carb. They have different flavors of broth. I also bought vegan protein broth to give it a try 🤷🏽‍♀️. We’ll see how those go.

Hey! How are you feeling about starting preop diet? I was grocery shopping this weekend and it hit me like this is it lol 😩. Mine is 10 days, starting this Friday. I can have sugar free yogurt and Jello, a piece of fruit, cottage cheese, broth, Protein Shakes, cucumbers, pickles, broccoli or cauliflower and once a day I can have thin sliced turkey or chicken

It sucks that your doctors are just trying to pass the buck. So is it not “official” that you have liver disease? I’d find a new PCP at a different practice and go from there, see if they’ll refer you out to a Hepatologist ( doc that specializes in livers) to get some real answers
