Ugh, Mary I'm so sorry for all this run around your getting. What doctors don't understand is this is a HUGE setback in our journey to SAVE ourselves. Such a blow could make someone just give up. I'm glad your strong and carrying on. You go get 'em girl!!!

I am so glad I found this thread. I thought I was alone. :sad:I have been so angry with myself because I must now have surgery. I am unable to lose weight and successfully keep it off by myself. How depressing. Since I have started the journey of obtaining a lap-band I have not exercised and have eaten everything with no disreguard for my health. I think I'm downright angry with myself.

I can't answer your question about the bloating; I'm pre-band. But I'd like to congratulate you on your weight loss!

Hi everyone, I am curious to know what everyone thought of their psychological evaluation. I am pre-banded and am not sure if I will have to have one; my insurance (Aetna) doesn't require it, but I just want to be prepared should the bariatric clinic ask me to go through it.
What kind of questions do they ask? What advice would you give someone going into this type of evaulation?
Thank you!

I'm very guarded about my weigh issues...struggles This being said I have only shared my journey with a small handful of trusted people. I have had enough negative bs in my life that I just don't need anymore. Furthermore, I don't want the stress of people looking at me and expecting something.
You have to do this for yourself. Keep your head high and know you are making one of the best decisions of your life.

Too shy to ask this question myself... I'm so glad you brought this up.
I'm eager to see more replies as I am pre-banded and had wondered about being sexually active and how long one should wait.

GOOD LUCK LADIES!!!

Wanda- I think you have to patient with your body. I know, you made your decision to lose the weight, had the surgery and now... nothing. Really though, your body has been through a lot of trauma and it too needs to adjust to your new way of life. Hold on and be tuff, look how fat you've come.

For myself, I chose the lapband because I have seen, four now, people that I know of who had the gastric bypass who lost over 100lbs and 3 out of the 4 gained it all back! With the bypass you can stretch your stomach back out.
I want to do this ONCE and be done!

Actually, Ive found other fat people the strongest opposers! They seem to feel like I've somehow been disloyal and joined the opposition.I totally 100% agree with this!!!

Wean yourself slowly to avoid headaches and other such related effects. I'd also recommend doing the 1/2 reg and 1/2 Decaf for a week then totally switch over to full decaf. Good luck

Oh gosh that sounds like a horrible (and scary) night of pain. I am of no help as I am "pre" banded, but I can let you know that there are lots of people here who may be able to help you figure that mystery out. And lots, like myself, who just care.
Good luck

Leslie, that wasn't very compassionate of the doctors wife!
Ugh... Sometimes people only concentrate on the negative sides of everything, rather than looking at the positive. The reduction in your blood pressure, cholesteral, insulin production etc etc etc

I've gotta jump in here. I totally agree with you to have the surgery. For some of us diet & exercise just isn't enough. :w00t:
We require more...and for your doctor to not appreciate that you are TRYING to solve the problem is frusterating at best.
You do what you need to do. And I agree, if some ignorant folks would just come to this site and look around they'd find hundreds of successful weight loss banded survivers. And we are proud of them!
Hold your position and don't let this get you down.

I have Aetna Pos II also. I printed out the criteria from their website. Went to the surgery center who monitored my diet and exercise for three months, turned in the required number of years of health history showing my weight, went to a dietician (only 2 visits), went for a pysc eval, which wasn't even required but I figured what the heck. It was one visit that lasted 10 minutes! I also went for the sleep apnea test. Wasn't required either. I have diabetes, but figured if I had two co-morbidities it would help my case. Submitted to ins. and was approved. It took them a whole month to get back to me with approval, but in the end it was worth the wait. Had the surgery and feel awesome. It was the best idea I ever had to get the lapband.Wow you had a fantastic experience with Aetna from the sounds of it. I hope to have the same...
