    February Surgery ?

So kinda funny story. On my surgery day, I had to be there at 8:00 and surgery was scheduled at 10:00. They had me in a room in gown, IV placed, vital signs taken, questions asked and ready to go by 8:45. A little after my surgeon came in a "little early" for any last minute questions and after her, anesthesiologist came in with consent forms. So now it's 9:30 and I had 30 more minutes until "action". The longer I laid there, the more nervous I got. They didn't end up getting me until 10:30 so now I'm a nervous wreck. They take me to the OR room and had me scoot over to the operating table. The nurse (I think) had told me they would be starting meds in about 5 minutes but would be getting prepped and blah blah. I had a serious bout of nervousness then and I told her I think I'm not going to do this. Can I get up? I'll just walk out. I'm not ready for this! (I was so nervous) I even tried to sit up. I heard her whisper to some guy that was behind my head out of my vision to start the fentanyl "right now" and then she got right in my face and said No!!! You are not walking out of here! You have worked too hard on your pre-op diet and you made a good decision to do this...... And that's all I remember. I woke up later in recovery. I just thought it was a little funny and I'm very thankful for whoever that person was cause I was ready to run out of there!!!!

    February Surgery ?

@lisafrommassachusetts downward indeed!! So I wonder when or if it will stop being such a struggle to get the liquids in? I will have to try some tea and look for the Hint water. I've tried a couple of brands of chicken broth and it's a no go for me. I don't know why but I struggle with getting it down. Last night was my first at home and all though it is absolutely nothing fancy, I loooooove my bed. Lol. The hospital bed was very uncomfortable. I finally switched with my husband and slept in the recliner they had for him and that was much more tolerable. Anyways, I'll stop so I can go sip some more lol

    February Surgery ?

So they told me I didn't have a regular hernia. I don't remember what kind it was but it's something that you are born with and it comes out through the diaphragm. She was very surprised to see it because she said that normally they are fixed as a baby because they are very dangerous. She also told me that since it was so close to my stomach she couldn't use "mesh" on it like she normally would to help support it so maybe that's why mine hurts so bad. I will say I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I have four children and had them all naturally. I haventHad any issues with my new stomach though Water just goes right through so I hope that stays the same.

Pay deductible before or after surgery?

I just had surgery this past Wednesday. My out of pocket max for the year was $3,575. But I had some other stuff already done so by the time surgery was scheduled, I was down to only needing to pay $2,000 out of pocket. My surgeon's office and the hospital where the procedure was done told me I would have to pay them prior to the surgery. I don't know if everyone is like that but that how it was for me.

    February Surgery ?

Hey everyone. After 3 nights in the hospital, I just got released. My vital signs went to normal and my white blood cell count went back down so they're pretty sure I don't have a leak. For the past day I stopped taking any of the narcotics that was offered me cause I would be so drousy and not drink. So then they offered me sugar liquid Tylenol. Y'all it was the most disgustingest (I know, I made up that word) thing. They also called that into the pharmacy for me. I don't remember who was asking about sugar free liquid Tylenol but I would call your surgeon and see if they could send a script in for you. Anyways, like I was saying about not taking the meds, I definitely very sore. My surgeon originally told me recovery would be like when I had my gallbladder removed which was a very quick recovery but I guess from the added hernia repair it's just not happening. It hurts to do anything! If I'm still, I'm fine. As soon as I try to move in any direction I feel like I've been hit with a train. I'm just telling myself this won't last forever. So now to the struggle of getting all of my liquid in. I can already tell it's gonna be tough but I've got to do it. I hope everyone else is doing well!!

Hey y'all. So for those who already had surgery, when did all of the soreness go away and you could start moving like normal?

    February Surgery ?

Hey everyone. I had the RNY this Wednesday. I’ve been pretty much out of it until today for some reason. I’m still in the hospital. My heart has been elevated since sometime last night. Doc came in and was gonna let me go home but then saw the elevated HR so she said it either needs to go down or they will need to make sure there are no leaks. I had a surprise hernia when she got in there. She said it’s something I was born with probably but that it can be life threatening so she took care of that. I have been surprised at the amount of pain I have been in. I had some gas pain In both my shoulders day of surgery but I have really felt anything since. Just really sore in my abdomen. anyways, I’m doing good as of right now. No problem with getting in liquids.

    Time frame

Depends on insurance. I had insurance approval and a surgery date 2 weeks after my first appointment with my surgeon. I already had gotten my psych eval done.

This!!!!!! I think this is part of my problem as well. I guess we have to just let go sometimes. Lol

    February Surgery ?

@lisafrommassachusetts you are so right. And I will try to remember that. That’s good to hear about the pain and mobility since I really struggle with that. And I have decided that my children are one of my biggest motivating factors for this surgery. They eat and drink unhealthy stuff just like I do but I never want them to have to struggle like I do. I have a family history of this and if that cycle is going to be broken then I will need to do it. I don’t want my children to struggle with all of the issues that come with being morbidly obese ever! So I am making it my mission to teach them healthier ways. Anyways, I guess I needed to type that out to remind myself of one of my biggest reasons for going through this. Lol

Hey @DB in AZ I’m ready. I’m extremely nervous just starting today to get really bad. I keep looking at my kids and wondering if I’ll see them again(I know......I’m being ridiculous). But anyways, I think I have everything ready. My pre-op is going good. I can eat 3 ounces of lean meat for lunch and dinner but I haven’t even really wanted to. I’m amazed that I don’t feel hungry. anyways, tomorrow.....here we come!!!

    Having gastric bypass postpartum

I have a one year old at home so a little older than yours but my surgeon said I couldn’t lift over 10 pounds so I will not be able to pick her up. Someone could put her in my arms and so on but I can’t actually lift. maybe you could find someone, a family member or friend to help for a few weeks with baby. but then again, all surgeon’s are different and you might have a different weight limit.

    February Surgery ?

Welcome! On pre-op diet as well. I’m scheduled for the 19th so I’ll be following you. I made some white chili for my family last night (I make a pretty mean white chili) and I had to walk away when it was done. It smelled so good and I was feeling all kinds of sorry for myself but I told myself that I made this decision when I was in my right mind lol and I will stay strong! We’ve got this!!

    February Surgery ?

It’s good to hear from you! I’m glad everything went well. Are you able to walk much to help with the gas?
  24. I am still pre-op (scheduled for RNY on the 19th) but my surgeon recommends the patch but is ok with the pills as well. The surgeon I have is with a university hospital/practice and they are very progressive in the way they do things. The patches are definitely newer and there isn’t a whole lot of research on their effectiveness but my office seems to feel they are effective based on their results. Maybe your surgeon feels they are not efficient enough for long term? I’m not sure. I plan on using them until I am able to get pills down without struggling with it.

@lisafrommassachusetts pre-op is going good. The first few days were definitely a mental struggle but I feel really good now. I will definitely remember to make hydration top priority then. That’s a lot of walking! You are doing great. Do you feel like you could be out in public at this point? The store or whatever? I’m scheduled for Wednesday and was wondering about Sunday morning services. I feel like it might be a stretch but just don’t know.
