  1. I'm there with you! I got a few sale things to get me through the winter. My new flannel shirt is XL (had been wearing 3XLT) and my new vest is also XL. I went to REI and fit into EVERYTHING I tried - some was XXL and some was XL. Previously I was only able to shop in the big and tall section.

I bought a pair of size 42 waist pants, still waiting for those to fit but I recall buying size 50 this summer for my Europe trip and I'm almost in the 42s so I'm getting closer!

  2. Update to this - I joined a local gym with multiple locations. I met with my friend who is a personal trainer and we met at the gym and came up with a plan.

3x weekly - my gym has machines set up in rows where one is arms, one is back/chest and one is legs. There's a small section of 4 or 5 core machines as well. I'm going to do a row each time I'm in there and do core every time.

The machines will make it easy, less intimidating and make sure I work things properly. I also found a great app WITH a watch app so I can track my weights easily as I'm working my way down the line!

3 week post op and losing about a lb a day. I figure that’s mostly due to the purée / liquid deal. Does it slow down when starting to eat normal textures? That’s my fear.

It does yes. You'll stall or go slowly between weeks 3-5 or around about there. I was losing very steadily until I hit that and then it dropped to 2-3 pounds a week. Then I lost 6 out of nowhere over 3 days. Of course it was over Thanksgiving and I wasn't tracking food or weighing myself so I just that had gift when I got home from family haha. Now I'm back to the 2-3 pounds a week and I guess I expect to see another 5-6 pound drop sometime this month. Just in time for the 3 month stall I hear about.

  4. I paid enough to get to my OOP max the week before surgery. Sounds similar to what they asked you to do and it seems fair.

My insurance has never been cooperative. Even with pre-approval they denied my $130k claim so now I get to play messenger between my hospital, my surgeon and some 3rd party because my insurance is out of state.

  5. I saw my surgeon and team last week and got some good info on calorie and carb limits and it gave me a great idea.

I came up with a rule of thumb for my food. 10 calories per gram of Protein and more protein than carbs and I can eat it!

Why? I need 70 grams of protein and 700 calories a day so as long as I'm getting 1 gram of protein in with each 10 calories I eat it shouldn't be an issue!

Carbs and Protein both have 4 calories per gram. If you have a food that has more carbs than protein then chances it it won't fit this rule of thumb.

This won't work for everyone obviously but I wanted to share it as I know looking at nutrition facts can be daunting at times!

I was moved to purees end of week 2. I noticed that my stomach cramps at anything not liquid. After 10-15 minutes of cramping, it stops and I just feel full for an hour (and much happier). Is this typical? Doesn't matter what the puree is! I have an extremely difficult time burping and I think air may play a role here.

Second, I can drink liquids without ever getting full. 8-10 oz an hour...maybe even more. I definitely get full on 3oz puree, but Water or Protein Drink is simply this bottomless pit with no resistance. I accidentally gulped Water after a walk out of habit, braced for the overflow, and found it went right on through anyway. Also typical?

Yes, this is all typical and normal. Liquids and slider foods don't stay long enough to trigger your fullness hormones and this close to surgery our fullness indicator really isn't working. You have to use restriction to figure out where you're at.

so i had my surgery on 10/3/19 and so far i’ve lost about 70lbs.. does that seem like the right number for 2 months out? i feel like maybe it’s not enough and i’m feeling a little insecure about it. i follow the diet to a T. a

You're doing spectacular! I was 10/22/19 and I'm at 48 pounds since then. I've been told that was awesome and there's no way I'll get to 70 at 2 months so you're kicking my butt!

Fill out your surgery profile so we know starting weights, surgery weights and what type you had!

Oh, gosh, I'm glad to know to prepare myself for a 3 month stall. I hit the dreaded three week stall and stalled just over two weeks and then dropped a few pounds and I'm stalled again! I just rode it out the first time and it worked. I may just do that again since I was always told that if I'm sticking to my rules and I'm not losing, to just keep doing what I know I'm supposed to and it'll work itself out. I just got cleared for moving more, so I may try to get some decent exercise in and see if that helps!

Hard same here. I need to lose 2 pounds a week to hit my goal weight for Hawaii in April. Starting this week I'm adding weight lifting and I was told that will help a bunch!

Thanks for the advice I will definitely make another appointment with my surgeon. As far as my eating habits are concerned I have been slacking. I find it really difficult to eat right. I'm a picky eater, and if I'm ever in a rush and have to grab something I usually just grab a bag of chips. Those calories really add up!!! Any tips for picky eaters ? I hate feeling like I'm on a diet again and just want to be "normal". Also which app is the best for food diary ? The fact that other people care and answer has motivated me to get back on track. Like all of you have said taking action now at 20 lbs regain is definitely better than letting my weight spiral up.

Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

I too am a picky eater. I just try and eat Protein and if I'm craving something I go for a healthy version. I absolutely LOVE pizza so I get Quest protein pizza or chicken crust pizza. If I'm in a rush I do beef Jerky or similar.

I'm not real big on Before/After pics....as in I haven't posted a single one yet. So this is the first one! Also - who else prefers Before/During pictures since I never really consider myself an "After"?

Officially to my own personal goal weight (about 75 down) after almost 8 months. Dr told me to expect to lose 65-75 over 18 months - so I'll take it!

Wedding pictures - before was after I had already lost 30 pounds. Same dress - different color - plus 4 sizes smaller!

They said I am supposed to stay in purée until I can come in and be seen. I’m so frustrated because I now can’t take time off from work because I used up all my Pto now with all the appointments I have had to go to plus the surgery time off. My only option is to make my next appointment for beginning of January when I have more pto saved up. They really screwed with me. I’m stuck on purée until then I guess or just cheat and advance myself. Then, I’m sure they will be all judgy because I advanced myself. I am just about ready to give it all up.

I had a similar issue with mine! I had to do my 4 week post op yesterday, which was 6 weeks. This was due to the holiday last week and my doctor only having 1 day a week in office. I was supposed to get clearance at my 1 month for exercise and to move off soft foods to my regular diet. That week also happened to be Thanksgiving and I wanted turkey so I called them up and basically told them I'd be moving to normal foods, things have been fine, and I'm going back to barre. Lol. They didn't have a problem with it. I hope you can do the same!
