Melissa85 got a reaction from KesselRunnerU12P in December Surgery dates???
My date is December 17th. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. The waiting is killing me lol. Just getting thing I'll need for after surgery and making sure I have someone to help with my daughter.

Melissa85 reacted to JediMom in Pre-op diet
I had my first Protein Shake today and struggled to even finish it. There is 20g of Protein in it and my stomach felt so full! I can have Water, propel, Vitamin water zero, mio, Decaf tea. I can only have 2 servings of broth/jello/popsicles per day. My 1 meal has to consist of 3-4 oz of lean meat/fish/chicken, 1 cup of raw veggies or 1/2 cup of cooked veggies and 1 carb that is no more than 15g.
i think it’s really interesting how each surgeon’s preop is different. Some are only clear liquids the day before, others 1-2 week diets. I went to the store and bought Swanson Bone Broth that is microwaveable and has 7g of protein and <1 carb. They have different flavors of broth. I also bought vegan protein broth to give it a try 🤷🏽♀️. We’ll see how those go.

Hey! How are you feeling about starting preop diet? I was grocery shopping this weekend and it hit me like this is it lol 😩. Mine is 10 days, starting this Friday. I can have sugar free yogurt and Jello, a piece of fruit, cottage cheese, broth, Protein Shakes, cucumbers, pickles, broccoli or cauliflower and once a day I can have thin sliced turkey or chicken

mymy, I just decided to be glad I only have 3 week of preop full liquid diet 24 hour clear.
But the best possible news was when nurse called with my EGD info for tomorrow. Said no liquids after midnight. So I asked if I needed to do clear today and he said no that will be for next weeks appointment. I knew I might get an earlier date because of holiday or cancellation issue. Not official yet but hoping it is fact.

Melissa85 reacted to ColoradoCanuck in Pre Op
I'm nervous as well. Like@planetabbi my surgery is Monday as well, but I'm getting a loop duodenal switch. I started my pre-op diet this past Monday and have already dropped several pounds. Good thing I like shakes! lol
Hang in there, we're all here to support each other!

Melissa85 reacted to JessLess in Pre-op essentials purchases
I'm a year out and my advice is not to buy a case of ANYTHING because your tastes may change after the surgery and it will get wasted. I did find some plastic 2 oz cups helpful after because that was my serving size for the first month or so.

Melissa85 reacted to Panda333 in Pre-op essentials purchases
I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience
Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently
Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore
sugar free popsicles
benefiber
biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me.
carmex lip balm
5 oz anchor measuring cup
Water bottle with measurements on it.
Torini sugar free syrups...for Decaf coffee
ice cube tray - for freezing broth
popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize
store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth
Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the Protein Shakes
Make sure you have extra Protein like GENEPRO to blend in to help you meet your protein goals
Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds
plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes
Loose panties
subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and Proteins and everything
I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange
soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk
get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers
Things I bought that I didn't use.
I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups
100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my Fluid intake this way...ummm..no..
almond Creamer, just don't like it
Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go"

I know there are a few threads that address devious to tell family and co-workers but for this of you that chose not to tell, how did you explain your rapid weight loss?
I’m scheduled for October and trying to get my ducks in a row from a leave standpoint at work. I have a close group of friends and I’m on the fence about telling them. I attempted to once and chickened out.
I am not one to be overly secretive but just don’t want to address the “easy way out” neigh sayers. But after being out of the office for the procedure, followed by a rapid loss - I am sure the rumor mill will start churning.

Melissa85 reacted to BlueIGT in To tell or not to tell
A couple years prior to wls I had lost 90 pounds on my own with tracking my food and exercise and I did it in 9 months. I did put it back on the following year after falling into a depression over the death of a parent, the 90 plus 10. The month before surgery I started talking to family/friends about getting serious about weight loss again. If they asked how I was doing it I would say the same way I did last time, tracking my food and exercise, which is true I am doing those things.
While I was recovering from surgery I told family/friends that I had the flu and it was kicking my butt. This became the reason I couldn't be social for a while or wasn't up to doing much... still getting over that flu, man it was a tough one. It worked for me.

Melissa85 reacted to Sandra Nuelken in To tell or not to tell
The people who really cared about me and my goodwill I told. They soon found out that this was not "the easy way out" and I got a lot of positive feedback about my dedication and willingness to give up foods that they said they could not. The people who normally would not ask or care if I was ok, I said nothing and said thank you when they noticed the weight loss. People not in your "inner circle of concern" are not owed an explanation or a made-up story.

You can’t hide rapid weight loss. People will talk and speculate.
You don’t own anyone an explanation. It’s a choice on who you disclose your private medical information with.

I had over 200 lbs to lose, so people didn't start noticing until around October (I had surgery in June), after I'd lost about 70 or 80 lbs. So I don't think they made the connection between my weight loss and the "staycation" I'd had four months earlier. By then, my weight loss had slowed a bit, too. I told most people that I was working with a dietitian, low-carbing and exercising like a fiend. I was more honest with close friends and other obese people (the latter because they'd know that was a bunch of crap), but skinny people believed that and were satisfied with that answer. Or at least they seemed like it - because they didn't ask further questions.

Melissa85 reacted to NYJenn in To tell or not to tell
I changed what I was eating in April 2018, spread the word that I was seeing a nutritionist (technically I was). I’m a teacher so I left in June and returned in September 50 lbs lighter, but to them that was over the course of 6 months, not super dramatic. Then when people see you everyday, they don’t tend to notice the changes because it’s not so drastic. They get used to seeing you. I talked a lot about working with my trainer and my meal plans and people never asked me. If they suspected WLS, no one mentioned it.
