Yes, they do! I don't enjoy eating meat, especially not charred meat, and double especially not pork, but these made even me crave bbq 😋😂😂😂😂 Going to give the marinade a shot with grilled seitan steaks, burnt ends-style. Thanks 😊

Thanks for sharing the recipe! I'm going to try this dish using seitan cutlets.

This type of bread, for example Mestemacher bread, is available in the USA. This is as nutritious and whole as bread gets: the only ingredients are grains, Water, salt and yeast. Also, it is totally scrumptious 😋

Agreed on both counts. Commercial Protein Bars are basically candy bars (this is a red flag) with added Protein. I bought a mini sampler box of No Cow bars around about 6 months out. They were crack: I ate all 6 within a week, and experienced my first major stall since surgery.
There are loads of recipes online for homemade protein bars that are nutritious and healthy-ish. I'm committed to eating whole foods, but protein bars/balls are handy, and I've taken homemade bars on hikes and bike rides recently. They only take about 5 minutes to make, and unlike the commercially made bars, I had no desire to heat them up and smoke them throughout the week 😂

Using the rest of the vegan chipotle sauce tonight on these collard green burritos with walnut meat, loosely inspired by these recipes, and seriously inspired by all of the delicious-looking bbq posts here lately! I used to be able to eat 4 or 5 of these; now I can eat one in a 90 minute sitting. I ❤ VSG.

Here's the version that I'm really enjoying right now:
2/3 cup silken tofu (or 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt)
3 - 5 chipotles in adobo sauce, to taste
1 tbsp adobo sauce (from the jar of chipotles)
    1/2 cup chunky red salsa
1 - 2 tbsp tahini or cashew butter, optional (for creaminess)
    1/4 red onion, roughly chopped
    2 cloves garlic, peeled
    1/2 lime, juiced
    1/2 tsp cumin
    1/2 tsp ancho chili powder
pinch of stevia, maple Syrup, or other sweetener, to taste
    pinch of salt, optional
    black pepper to taste, optional
Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth-ish (start with 3 chipotles and add more as needed, to taste). Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary. If the sauce is too thick, thin it out with more lime juice. If it’s too thin, add more silken tofu/yogurt. Great on tacos, burritos, bowls, casseroles, and over salads. Stores in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Makes about 2/3 cup.

Roasted veggie salad with avocado, roasted Tomato salsa, and creamy vegan chipotle sauce. I ate just over half. A few spoonfuls of dessert, two hours later: raspberry nice cream (just raspberries and bananas).

I am new here. I have never posted anything online before (no social media and no reviews etc) I am writing because I am nervous. My surgery date is July 7th. I have been thinking about having the surgery for years but finally went for a consult this month and everything has moved so fast! If anyone has suggestions on how to prep for the days after surgery please let me know! Thank you!

I’m sorry you’re experiencing such terrible gas pain.
A big part of the not drinking before eating is to allow your tummy to fully empty before you start to eat. And the reverse after you eat. Remember your tummy is very small now & can only hold a small amount of food or drink.
As you just had your surgery you should be on liquids only (surgeons differ on for how long). These liquids (broths, shakes, etc.) all count to your Fluid intake for the day. So at this stage there is no real difference between ‘eating’ & drinking. I added more Water (about 1/2 cup more) to my shakes to make them thinner & easier to consume and I would take hours to finish one just slowly sipping. I would swallow my meds with the diluted shake.
The waiting before eating & drinking kicks in once you begin eating ‘real’ food from the purée stage. Even at 13 months out this is still true for me. As is being unable to drink more than a mouthful of liquid at a time. If I drink close to when I eat or drink a little when I eat, I can’t eat much because I feel full & I don’t get my nutrients in. Plus I gurgle something terribly.

    Hi all -
I had my sleeve done on Thursday afternoon and came home yesterday (fri). I had expected a huge problem from the gas used in surgery as I had a hysterectomy (close to that same procedure for both) and that is what I got, a huge problem. I hardly noticed any pain in my abdomen from the surgery because of the severity of the gas-related pain in my shoulder and back. But feel like the Charco tabs worked far better than gas-x (and my husband lightly whacking my back with cupped hands (what they do for CF but not that hard). This morning most of that is better.
    1. I know most all the basics, but some of the details on shaky as I put it all in play! For example: In the liquid stage is there 30 minutes between each drinks (the rules deal with food and liquid that I have seen ca. 2 liquids or 2 actual food items).

    2. my surgeon/nutritionist say I can drink up to the point of eating, but I need to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. The nutritionist for Bariatrics at the hospital, however, said I was better off waiting 30 minutes So I am going with the latter for now. But still, whether due to remaining gas or to reflux or whatever, it feels uncomfortable to eat and drink no matter how small the bites.

    3. Another timing issue has happened twice - I started this morning with a Protein Shake. But about 15m waiting 30 minutes for a food item, I realized that I need to take some meds. I needed some sips to take the pills. Do those few sips mean I begin the counter again? In other words, I am curious about the experience of others on this topic and how you interpreted this (more conservative) rule.
    4. In the last hour it feels as if my stomach is growling, as with actual hunger. We will continue to have hunger, but with the increase in acid and gas it much harder to interpret these sensations and feelings.

I am posting this in the hopes that it may help someone....
Onederland. I have read other people post about onederland for years now, and never thought it would one day be me. It just seemed so far out of reach. During my years of trying all different diet fads, I got close, but never hit the magic number (only to gain back everything, plus). Yesterday, was my first memory of ever seeing a 1 as the first digit on the scale.
Less than 8 months ago, I weighed 316 pounds, scared out of my mind about surgery, and wondering if I would even lose 100 pounds in the end. The road hasn’t always been easy, but the results are so worth it. For those on the fence (as I was for 5 years) I can tell you without hesitation that this was the right move for me. As so many people have said before, my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Good luck! I’m a little shy of two weeks post op but so excited for the future. I hope all goes smoothly, but even if it doesn’t I’m confident you’ll find any bumps in the road well worth it in the end!

    Ingredients:
1-2 bunches of cilantro (Put cilantro in a blender with a little Water and blend until its completely broken down) Rice chicken (any cut) Mixed veggies (Peas, carrots, corn) 1-2 Red bell peppers (cut in long pieces) Aji Amarillo (a couple tablespoons) 1 onion & a couple garlic cloves Seasonings: S&P, cumin, garlic powder, a dash or two of turmeric, adobo (optional) 1 chicken bouillon cube Lightly season the chicken with the above seasonings minus the turmeric and then pan sear them until they are half way cooked and have a nice golden color. In a rice pot, add some oil and fry the onions and garlic. Once they are half way cooked add the aji amarillo and fry for or minute or two making sure you are constantly stirring the mixture. Season the mixture with all of the above seasonings and add the chicken cube. If the mixture starts drying up and sticking add some water and then after another minute add the blended cilantro and cook for 2 minutes or so. Add the chicken to the pot and then add some water (enough to cover the chicken to the top. Let the chicken cook until done. Once the chicken is done, remove it from the mixture and set aside. Scoop out any oil or grease you see come up to the surface. Add your mixed veggies, bell peppers, add enough water depending on how much rice you are making, then add your rice and mix. Check to see if the mixture needs salt. Cook the rice as you normally would and once the rice is done turn off the stove and add the chicken back to the pot leaving it on the surface and cover the pan letting the steam do its work. Done! Here's a link of how to make it. Its in Spanish but you can see how everything is suppose to look like. She adds some black beer which is normally used in this rice but I do it without. She also adds some blended spinach to it but I like a stronger cilantro flavor so I don't add that.

Not sure if you wanted the papa a la huancaina recipe (yellow cream potato app) but here it is either way:
Blend together half of a pack of queso freso (I use Mexican, Salvadorean, or Guatemalan because Peruvian cheese doesn't exist here), a drizzle of olive oil, some evaporated milk, a couple saltine crackers, salt, and a couple spoons of aji amarillo and that's it. The consistency should be somewhat thick and serve it over boiled potatoes. Ok so this is aji amarillo. Its definitely essential to making the rice and it wont come out the same if you decide not to use it. I believe Amazon has it too. Its spicy so be careful when using it because I found that some jars are spicier than others, ESPECIALLY when you first open the jar. Just add to your desire taste.
Oh and I highly recommend doing the salsa criolla (onion mixture). Its basically purple onions mixed with lime, salt, cilantro and a chopped hot pepper of your choice. I cant eat this meal without it lol
    Hope you like it!

I think all Protein bars are kind of junk food when looking at the ingredients. The No Cow bars are one of the less evil ones, lol. When looking at the prices of the bars I think I'm going to finally try my own though. I will never be able to copy a Clif Builder bar but something simulating the consistency and taste of the No Cow bars should be possible.
It's just a lunchbox I put into the fridge at work because it contains perishable items. The bars don't need to be cooled though.
It's 100% whole meal rye bread. Luckily these kinds of breads are available at about any grocery store that sells bread. Might be a different brand but you can always get a decent bread at German grocery stores/supermarkets. From what I read on the boards it's way different in many other countries though.
The cheese is Wilmersburger Vegan cheese. It's one of the better tasting ones but it's just plain unhealthy IMO and expensive and I don't buy it that often. I usually only get these cheeses when I crave a cheeseburger real bad or a cheese sandwich.

Though by far not all meat alternatives are tasting good. Some are just 🤢. However, during the last years there are some yummy alternatives on the market. Cheeses are still lacking behind. Most are unhealthy and just plain gross.
