    October sleevers?????

    October 15 for me. 😀
  3. I’m still 10/15 but just found out that my surgeon wants to do VSG instead of RNY due to Gout that is genetic and not diet caused. Time to check out the VSG boards...
  4. I cannot believe October is almost here! I hope everyone keeps us updated as they get their surgeries.
  5. Thanks for pulling this together! Now we can check up on everyone. 😀

    Advice/opinions wanted

Being a bride doesn’t excuse bad behavior. She sounds dreadfully immature. If you asked nicely, she should have answered nicely. Even if she found your question annoying for some childish reason you didn’t deserve her personal attacks. Since you have decided she isn’t worth your effort, move on and don’t let this cause you to self sabotage with food. You will feel much worse if you gain weight over this. Her wedding might be wonderful but it sounds like a lot of collateral damage will be in her wake... Be well!

I’m your surgery twin on 10/15.
  8. I believe that in the USA we tend to be discharged quite quickly. Some may argue too quickly. If your doctor wants you in the hospital for a few days, it is probably for the best. You will do great!

    Under 25 and choosing this?!

Just tell them it only gets worse as you get older! I was skinny as a young person and managed to gain 100 lbs from when I graduated high school. Most everyone gains weight as they age but some of us do it with gusto (raising hand). If you are starting out overweight, unless you get it under control through either diet and exercise or WLS (and diet and exercise) it will only get worse. I wish I had been able to keep weight off when I would lose it but it never happened and naturally I got heavier and heavier as I aged. Only you know what is right for you. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you success.

    # 6 weeks and counting :D

You are going to do great. I can feel it in my bones!
  11. Hi: I am 1 month pre-op RNY and I’m nervously excited. I’m not too scared about the surgery part as I DO expect to wake up. But I am scared about complications. I have read enough on here and elsewhere to know that bad things can happen. I’m worried about how I am going to feel afterwards. Not so much the surgery pain because I have had surgery before. I’m more worried about fatigue and possible sadness. I’m worried about what I will eat when regular food is reintroduced. I read what people eat and not much of it is what I like. It seems the healthy things that I like are off limits. I don’t eat a lot of protein but I do like protein shakes so I expect that they will be a part of my life forever which is ok. I also hear that tastes change so maybe I will start to like things that sound awful to me now... I’m slightly worried about how my appearance will be regarding mainly my face. I’m 55 and I’m not wrinkled much right now probably because my chubby face helps. I have had said chubby face for 20 years so I don’t know what my middle aged face looks like at a normal weight. Last time I was thin, I didn’t have wrinkles. Lol. What a kick it will be to be a healthy weight and have an unrecognizable face! Lol I am not too concerned about loose skin because most of my weight is in the belly and that looks pretty bad right now so it will just look a different kind of bad. And there are always plastics... I’m hoping getting this stuff off of my chest will help me and maybe others would like to get these things off of their chests, too. Thanks

    October

    10/15 here.
  13. I went to the surgeon thinking I was going to be a vsg patient. Doctor suggested I do the RNY instead because of GERD and the fact that I have problems with the lap band. I was not expecting him so say that so it took me awhile to wrap my mind around RNY. I suggest you do a lot of reading and it should help you make the decision you are comfortable with.
  14. You have lost 36 lbs in 2 months?! Congratulations!!! I’m obsessed with reading and watching everything I can. I will admit my eating lately isn’t perfect and I’m working on fixing that. I did quite well in the first month but this past month not so much. I have major some major changes that I have stuck to...quit coffee, no more drinking alcohol (was a social drinker) and I have introduced protein shakes into my life. I am scheduled for rny on 10/15. I’m only down 5 from my first appointment in July. It was 9... You are doing GREAT!
  15. @catwoman7 Thanks for your response. I have read about your plastics with great interest. Have you considered doing anything for facial wrinkles? Even at this weight I have that pesky frown line between the eyes that I wonder about post op. Do we lose weight in our foreheads/brow? Lol. Maybe the depth of it will be less if we do!

Oh how I wish it was the easy way out! That is incredible that she said that. I have no problem with her not recommending the surgery based upon your personal situation but wls is not easy by any means! If it were, I would have done this ten year ago instead of next month. Sorry to jump in and vent with you. The advise you have been given already is excellent.
  17. I’m sorry for what happened to you. I think chewing foods to the point of mush is going to be a challenge for me but I sure will try. Thanks for the PSA.
  18. I got my EGD done on Friday. She wrote on the report that no findings to prevent bariatric surgery.

However, I have antrum gastritis and she said it looks quite red and sore (no ulcers). I have been taking omeprazole for months but my stomach does burn when I wake up prior to taking that pill.

I’m wondering what will happen when the antrum becomes part of the remnant stomach. Will the omeprazole work? Will that part no longer be irritated since it will no longer be digesting food?

I plan on asking these questions of the doctor in a few weeks but wondering if anyone has a clue about this.

Thanks
  19. Polishing my toes! Between my belly and needing reading glasses, I do a terrible job! I could save money on pedicures...well, I would still want the pedicures because I love them.
  20. I wonder why they don’t just get rid of that remnant. They throw away the rest of the stomach with vsg. Lol. Sounds funny throwing away stomachs. I’m hoping that the diet change and hopefully reduction in meds will rid me of gastritis for good!

  22. I asked about my bp meds and they said I can just swallow meds. They also said I may hold them if my bp is under a certain number. I also take a uric acid reducer that I will need to take post op. It surprised me, also, that I can take a hard pill post op but yet will be on clear liquids. Go figure! I plan on questioning this again during my pre op appt with my surgeon in a couple of weeks.
