    Drinking wine

I didn't have any wine for two months after GS and have discovered that by adding back at least a glass of red wine at dinnertime I have had no tolerance issues at all...in fact haven't felt it at all. That being said, they are pretty empty calories and I'll be giving it up again for Lent.

    Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen

My wife and I were both sleeved in early December and we're both 66. Glad we did it together as it makes meals easier. I'm down 50 pounds and am happy for better health and quality of life. Also my 50th high school reunion is this summer. 😬😉

    Regrets?

No regrets at all (except for not having worked up to red meat yet)! 50 lbs down in less than three months and I haven't been this low for over 40 years or more.

    Tomorrow is surgery day, question!

No protein shake today...but protein water would be fine if you have it. Jello is okay as well as SF popsicles and broth. As far as anesthesia reaction...don't hesitate to ask for anti-nausea meds when you need them. You should be up and around within a day or so...taking it easy. Driving or riding in a car may cause some discomfort with the incisions but again, just don't rush. AND NO LIFTING of anything over a couple of pounds. You'll only be on liquids for about a week...then you move to pureed soft foods. It will seem like nirvana. Good luck and you'll soon be on the 'losers bench' with the rest of us.

    Gastric Bypass for Senior Citizen

I'm 66 and was sleeved in early December along with my wife who is also 66. We're both so happy we had this done as for the years we have left with children and grandchildren we want to be healthy and able to enjoy them. It's worth it!
  6. I'm almost 67 and had a sleeve 8 weeks ago. I'm down almost 45 lbs and very happy I had this done. We 're never too old for good health and better self-esteem. If you drink coffee the Caramel and the Cafe Latte flavors are great additions as a protein rich substitute for half and half or cream.
  7. I'm down over 43 lbs from sleeving on 12/2/19. Trying to keep calories below 800-900. Down two pant waist sizes and shirts from XXL to XL...so I'm ecstatic so far.
  8. AJ...that's great news! I'm excited as well as I'm only down 42 pounds in 8 weeks but have gone from a 46 pant to a 42 and my 20" neck and 3xl shirts are swimming on me. I'm heading to Hawaii for a sunbreak in 2 weeks and am excited to be able to swim in the ocean without worrying that the Coast Guard will try to board me. :-)

    Work.....How long were you out?

I have a desk job and was only off 10 days. I had no pain or discomfort...so I was lucky I guess.

    Food tracker

Baritastic for me...works great for my needs.
  11. I actually took a little bump up after a few days which I attribute to fluids. Six weeks later I'm down 40 pounds. Patience is the key... Welcome to the journey.
  12. It has only been six weeks and I'm down 38 pounds which is about 40% to goal. I get plenty of protein in every day and am close to expected on fluids (not counting protein shakes). In lab tests last week all of my numbers are within normal ranges except of glucose which is only 78 and below the bottom threshold of normal. I've been having some dizzy spells from, what I would guess is hypoglycemia. I average 500-600 calories per day and around 25 carbs. I get full very fast and just can't eat any more after I get my protein in. Any thoughts or ideas? Anyone else in this boat?

Am I losing weight too fast?

Hey Fatboyslim1...we were sleeved the same day...so we're running neck and neck. Let's keep in touch. I know that I could be getting more fluids in...but I think it's the blood sugar levels.
  14. I started getting dizzy when laying down or rising from bed at about week two after my sleeve. It has gradually gotten better so now at 1 month it's pretty much gone.

    Calories?

I'm at somewhat of a 3 week stall as well...but I'm down 28 pounds in those three weeks and my pants are falling off...so what the hey! I'm averaging 600 calories and 65 protein a day, so I guess I'm doing all I can do. Merry Christmas everyone! And a skinny New Year.

    December 2019 Sleeves

I had my sleeve on 12/2 and my wife followed a week later on 12/9. It's actually very supporting to be eating from the "same menu".

    Shoulder pain

I had front left shoulder pain for a day after surgery and was told it was gas related. It went away and I haven't had it since. Regarding a leak however, you would be having a fever and likely nausea in addition to the pain.
  18. Claire: I was sleeved two days before you and I'm down 25 pounds...so just about the same as you. As a meme pointed out, it took years to put on the weight and so it will take some time to take it off. You've done it before and you can do it again. Just don't sabotage your work with negative thinking. I've decided to stop taking daily weights and go to weekly now that I'm two weeks out. That way I won't have the up and down emotions on a daily basis. "OMG, I only lost .2 pounds today...AAARRRGH!" Keep up the good work!

    December 2019 Sleeves

I'm just a few hours out than you are and I'm having the same experience. Except for the one incision where they did most of the dirty work I have no pain at all.👍😀. I feel very lucky.

    December 2019 Sleeves

I'm on day one post-op and feel pretty good. Very little gas pain and liquids and now full liquids are going down well.

    December 2019 Sleeves

I'm starting my pre-op diet on Monday, but my surgeon said to enjoy a little bit of Thanksgiving dinner. Sweet... December 2nd here we come.

    December 2019 Sleeves

We're being sleeved the same day. Keep in touch on how you feel afterwards. It'll be good to compare notes.

    December 2019 Sleeves

Being sleeved on 12/2. I'm 66 yo and heavy all of my life...so it's a totally different mindset that I'll have to deal with. I've always been a food junkie (not junk food)...have been to some of the best restaurants in the world (good memories for sure) and only need one channel for entertainment on TV (Food Network, duh...). I also am a part-owner in a winery which will be very hard to limit future consumption. Positive is that my wife is being sleeved the next week...so at least we won't have issues with smelling food cooking, etc. Misery loves company -- but so does success. Good luck everyone.
  24. December 2 for me...and December 11 for my spouse. Misery loves company.

    Sleeved over 65

My wife and I are both 65 and getting sleeved a week apart in December. It will be an experience together, but at least no spaghetti and meatballs to deal with.
