I thought I was buying a new, *flatter than ever before in my life, even when I was thin* tummy. But instead I have a baby Buddha tummy I need to STILL stuff into compression i.e. torture gear.

WTG Girl! *This is KEY IMHO. I had to do this. Every time my body would stop, I'd mix things up. It also helped keep the "losing game" fresh and innovative. I didn't have time to get bored...well I did, actually, but then I'd change the rules and boom baby! Excitement and focus and hope/positive outlook was back! That's what I did in the last 30-40lbs to lose to Goal #3. And it did include IF and EFs as well as heavy calorie/macro counting (which I love to nerd-out on).

    You got this girl!

^^^^ Loved what you said here, @Serengirl!

The same happened for me too. It can freak you out for sure to add calories and lose because it is counter to everything we have been taught to believe. I also decided to not weigh myself as often bec i can't let a number on a scale define my day... it was making me frustrated and it is counter productive... I am still trying to work through the idea that its okay to have more calories because my instinct is to cut them. So far too low carbs or too low calories over time seem to slow things down for me but I tend to mix things up so well see but congrats on the loss! I did do IF with the higher calories though so i dont know if that helped too. So i kept my eating window smaller.

Did you get your pysch eval yet? You're friends arent preparing you? It's not up to your friends to decide. If you can have anesthesia. It's up to the Dr. Lol. This isn't about pain tolerance. This is MAJOR surgery not a pipe up your butt. I think it's time to come back to reality.

No disrespect but this is nothing like any surgery you have had. During surgery no anesthesia I'm sure is not an option. Post no pain meds I'm sure can be and it's great you want to be "clean" however this is no joke....

LOL... well that would NOT be constructive! No guns blazing from me
I personally have not taken offense from any replies I have received, they have been great. I love the support I am getting. I love the support that most other posters are giving to others as well. But I have read some replies to other posts that were not "tough love" but instead over the top, uncalled for, and totally non-productive. Some are downright insulting. Certainly not tough love.
The way I see it, those who get offended most easily are probably the most insecure among us. They need our support the most. And if that means we need to be a little gentler with them, then I am all for it.

Guys, I gotta get this off my chest.
BariatricPal is a wonderful site that has helped countless people on their weight loss journey. Many topics have been discussed here with some of them being a bit off-color or controversial, but it's OK because we are hear to learn and get help and give help.
But many posters ask honest questions, and some of the responses come off as being judgemental of the poster. If people are afraid their questions are going to bring down a rain of judgements on their head, they are likely NOT to post, and isn't asking questions what this forum is for?
So I hope we can give a bit of consideration when we respond to a question. Opinions are definitely OK, but if the post comes off as judgemental people may be hesitant to ask them, and it defeats the purpose of this forum.
Thanks, whew-I feel better now. I love you all!

I thought this was supposed to be a positive board. Simply put everyone’s body and metabolism are not the same. We all know this so If I chose to say that I lose at a slower rate than someone else, sometimes it can be frustrating, then I move past it - then this should be a space to do so, without being put down or bombarded with “scientific facts” that is also not one size fits all. We all have our days where we may compare ourselves to others and then we are realistic and understand that we are not all the same and are thankful for what we have been able to do and the accomplishments we have made so far. Diet, exercise and genetics all play it’s roles in our weight loss as well as gain. Providing informative information and helpful is one thing but I do not understand the need to put others down.

You have already stated SEVERAL times how you feel - you have made your point. This thread is for people who would like to talk about their slow weight loss. How many times do you have to be asked to stop putting forward your opinions? Go and make your own thread about your viewpoints. People can b***h and moan as much as they want - it's not up to you to tell them they can't.

The funny thing is... some people are OK with losing slowly and there's actually nothing wrong with that. This thread is for those people who want to talk about their journey while losing SLOWLY. For the people who insist on coming on here and trying to prove their points about why people are losing slow, blah blah blah... please stop now.
I would love to come on to this thread and talk about my weight loss journey, but I feel like I'm going to have a few weight loss know it alls jump down my throat. I don't need someone telling me how to lose - I'm doing it. SLOWLY.

@Sheribear68 - you are so amazing! What you posted is exactly what I feel this thread was meant to be for..for support, to give the wisdom of the fact that lbs lost per week in the first 6 months, 2 months, 1st month, etc. is not the 'factor' that determines your journey's success. Long term studies I've seen show that people who do what you said - and stay on and work their plan..and yes, the more lost..the more we will have to work...that if you stick with it you WILL hit your goal DESPITE whether you dumped a ton of weight in the first few months or not.
I think over 90% of the ppl on this thread are looking for general support - no one that I can recall has taken the more negative mindset and said 'hey, this surgery didn't work'...or 'I wish I had never done this'....most ppl are wanting just a bit more support emotionally and maybe if they wish, to have ppl talk about tips to address certain issues that may or may not make their own weight loss journey a bit more challenging.
I hope this thread stays positive so people can get the encouragement they need and as others have said, we are here because we want to REMAIN fully committed to the journey and it is helpful when we are talking to people who are WORKING through the same thing or have been through the same thing. We PLAN and are DETERMINED to hit our goal weights - that is why this thread is valuable for me...just like Fluffy's headwork thread and several other threads.

lyladyp reacted to S@ssen@ch in Sleeve ba. bypass
Well, maybe a minor lesson in the difference between the procedures.
Sleeve gastrectomy (aka gastric sleeve): inherently a restriction WLS. They remove 80% of your stomach and shape your stomach into a sort of "banana-shape" to reduce the AMOUNT you can eat. Period. You get whatever nutritional value from what you eat, good or bad.
RNY-gastric bypass: Is a combination restriction and malabsorption WLS. The surgeon divides your stomach and forms a small pouch. That pouch is then re-routed to bypass the remainder of your stomach and the first part of your intestine. The first part of your intestine is responsible for absorbing nutrients and calories. Therefore, not only can't you eat as much but not all of what you eat is getting absorbed.
There are lots of other procedures: duodenal switch and mini-gastric bypass to name a few. They are all "invasive" in that a doctor has to enter your abdominal cavity and make changes to your anatomy. I'm not sure you could say that sleeve is any more or less invasive than bypass.
Definitely discuss it with your doctor. Ask his advice and don't simply rely on the fact that he does more/less of a certain procedure. Do your research. Ask Questions.
There are many factors to consider when you're deciding between the 2: past medical history, the amount of weight you need to lose, etc. For me, the deciding factor was that I absolutely did not want the malabsorptive aspect of RNY and was willing to risk the possibility of reflux. Which I did get, by the way, although it's rather minor and currently well-controlled.
