I’m reading many of these posts today. This was a major issue for me the first two months after my surgery.
It’s important to realize everyone is different. I only lost 10 pounds my first month after surgery!
    I’m 4 months out now. I’ve lost 60 pounds.

I woke up and felt exactly the way you did. My hospital had extremely strict conditions regarding pain medication given.

Waking up from surgery was the worst pain I have ever experienced and I had natural child birth! I know the hospital did a poor job of pain management and many other things for my stay. My pain threshold is very high but when they do a poor job of managing the pain from the onset, it becomes very difficult to ever get in front of it. I didn't have much relief until day 3.

Since I last posted I have officially hit 10 months post op on July 3rd. I started at my high weight of 308 pounds two weeks before surgery and I am currently 173.8 pounds. So many things have changed since my last update. I have gone vegan and so many aspects of my health has improved beyond what the WLS has done for me. So that is amazing. But also I might have an ulcer so I am scheduled for an endoscopy later this month. So things have been up and down but hopefully everything comes back fine. However, back to a lighter note my first picture is me right before surgery and the second is me from two days ago. The changes have been dramatic but so worth it. I am hoping to lose another 20 pounds and I hope to make it to the 150's by my one year mark.

There were some carbs (oatmeal, mashed potatoes) on my soft foods diet. I do a 1/4-1/3 cup of oatmeal 6 mornings a week (done as refrigerator oats, mixed with Protein Powder, chia seeds, greek yoghurt, and almond milk).

Very similar to my experience. My doctor never mentioned weight loss surgery to me, but when I brought it up, he was 100% on board with it.

same with my doc - he told me to watch what i eat. (like i didn't know that!!) i guess its not really his responsibility to suggest the surgery, but it sure would have been nice.
One day. at an appt., i asked his opinion about WLS, he said that i would be a great candidate. Good idea!! hmm, wish he had suggested before. Least there was one smart cookie in the office!!😉

I use to think that wls was the easy way out until I started doing more research and my bmi was over 40. I think doctors don't bring it up because being obese is a big money maker in the medical field. The more you weigh more than likely you will suffer from different ailments that are costly. So why would they want you to lose weight super fast. They want that money coming in for a long time. I'm so glad my doctor approved my wls surgery but I'm kind of mad he didn't reccomend it in the first place..

My former primary care doc told me he preferred “more conservative methods” and I just needed to watch my portions. My current primary care didn’t suggest weight loss surgery, but was totally on board when I brought it up.

My cardiologist strongly suggested that I look into doing it. Eventually, I’ll need to have my aortic valve replaced, thanks to drawing what’s likely a genetic short straw, but he said losing weight could lengthen the amount of time before needing the replacement surgery. I think I ignored it at the time, but he’s the only one whoever brought it up.

I don’t understand why doctors do not mention it to patients who have weight related illnesses or health problems, especially if they are advising them they need to lose weight. They really ought to provide more guidance/options for losing weight.

I was constantly told to lose weight by doctors but WLS was never suggested. I should have had the surgery 10-15 years ago, and the stigma absolutely pushed me away from it. I was ashamed that I couldn't do it on my own I guess...and yet I didn't think a bit less of anyone else who had it. I am only 7 weeks out but I can already tell that I made the right decision and I wish I would have done it sooner instead of spending my youth obese, unhealthy and unhappy. I missed out on so many things because of my obesity.
I don't see this changing in the near future, at least not in the United States. People are extremely judgemental and have a punitive attitude when it comes to medical intervention. You see that attitude not only toward obesity but also addiction, pain management and mental illness. I get enraged every time I see someone post something on social media about "You don't need antidepressants, you need running shoes." People think if they just eat enough kale and do enough crossfit that there is no need for a flu shot. People are even judgemental when it comes to cancer! I am all for natural remedies when possible but I am incredibly grateful to live in an age of modern medical interventions and I will absolutely use any tools I can to make myself healthier and happier.

Awesome! I had similar results (VSG 8/2010)....started at 325 and was down 125lbs 7 months later and then got pregnant so I had to adjust some but evidently I was still loosing because I weighed in at my lowest 1 week after giving birth at 180 and wanted to go further but being a new mom put the focus elsewhere or else I likely would have made it to my dream goal of 160.

I'm officially 100 pounds down this morning since surgery 7.5 months ago and 110 pounds down from my all time high weight of 325lbs. I am 9 lbs away from my surgeon preferred low weight for me and only 35 lbs away from my initial (let's see how i feel and look) weight of 180lbs[emoji16]

I weigh myself everyday too. I feel like it helps me keep myself in check...seeing it go up or seeing it go down. I don’t think there is anything wrong w doing that everyday. We all want to keep the weight off so I think if that helps do that then I’m going to weigh everyday. 😊

Agreed. Some people can handle seeing the daily fluctuations and get on with their day, but for some others, that occasional 1/2 pound overnight gain causes anxiety and stress. Know what helps and what doesn't help you, and behave accordingly.
I weigh myself every morning at the same time, wearing nothing at all. lol. Works for me

So sorry your sis is going through this. I, fortunately, only had these thoughts for about 48 hours then I was ok. I would say that she will start feeling better once she sees the weight come off, but she should be seeing that by now. Does she ever say why she regrets it??

    Hello All,
I'm new to the forum, been lurking around reading various posts. My little sister underwent gastric sleeve Dec 21st and just not coping well post-op. Everything you mentioned, AutumnTheAries, she's going through. My father and I are here for support. She regrets doing the surgery. She's taking it out us, why we didn't try enough to ask her if she was doing the right thing. We keep telling her it will be get better. From reading various posts, seems most have been in this post-op stage. What else can my father and I do other than being there for her? I miss my lil sis

Hey...how are you doing? My gastric bypass surgery was December 4th. I was also experiencing some “sads” the first 2 weeks. I slept at night, took my daughter to school then climbed back in bed for several more hours. I’m feeling a lot better as I approach week 3! I’m able to expand my intake and I’m tolerating everything well. I’m soooo afraid of Hair loss. I had cancer/chemo in 2014 and my hair came back but it’s already quite thin. That’s a huge concern for me. I’m taking the Celebrate brand of chewable vitamins. I’m also taking daily Biotin. I space my Vitamins out to hopefully aid in absorption. I hope you’re better day by day! Merry Christmas! 🎄

I just had my one year post op anniversary. I have lost 83lbs and still need to lose 30 to 40lbs to hit my goal. I feel like I could have done better and I'm comparing myself and I shouldn't but it's so hard not to.
