I don’t carb load unless I'm running a half or full marathon. I'm forever carb sensitive and its automatic weight gain.
This is my week leading up to my half marathon. I’ve gained five pounds with two more days of carb loading to go. Looking forward to race day on the 18th. Weight loss mode starts the 19th

What a great topic! I’m just over 2 weeks post op and have been cleared to start trail running again. My base was 3.5 miles prior to surgery. I’m expecting it to take a solid month before I’m up to that again, then I can start adding miles, with the hope of landing at having 2 3.5 mile runs a week, and one 10 miler. That’s where I was 4 years ago, and even though I was heavy I felt fantastic and could go on any hike I picked out.
I’ll be chatting with my dietician in 2 weeks to figure out a plan to get me through some long hikes, backpacking trips, and adding on running mileage this summer. It’s going to look pretty different from what I’m used to, I’m sure.

Entering week 5 of couch25k and it’s been going okay. I used to be in the military and ran all the time. After getting out, I refused to do any type of fitness and the pounds packed on. It’s been such a humbling process getting the weight off and getting used to running again. Anyone have any tips of getting their breathing under control while running? I try to focus on the in through the nose/ out through the mouth but I just feel like I’m suffocating.

    Hi Skyguy,
How did you get your running endurance back after the surgery? Can you tell me a bit your training?
I am about 6 weeks post op. On week 1 I walked 3 miles, tiring but no issues. Week 2 and 3 I tried to jog and hit a wall at mile 1 (pre op I had run a 3 miler same course no issues). Yesterday (6 weeks post op) I tried again and jogged for 3 walked 2. I was very tired at the end but alive.
Would you mind telling me what your daily food intake is like and how many miles you are running per week etc?
    Thank you!

I was a runner in HS and college/post college and have tried to run again for some years. I'm busy looking at new shoes and have been wondering about fueling.
Back when I was competitive 1980-86 I never really thought about this stuff

I haven’t seen my brother in a month or so and he was shocked when he saw me at Easter. He said I look like a totally different person. I just hit that 50 lb mark since the first of the year and other people are starting to notice

I'm kind of a mouth breather ..lol It's a work in progress. Some say if you are running and can still talk your not exerting your breathing. I mouth the music on my playlist. (I spare people from hearing me sing) have a friend that sucks on cough drops. It helps him. It takes practice. I'm still not great with it.

Just had a fab Easter break with hubby and my two girls. Noticed the increase in get up and go. We went to a national park which has huge rock formations everywhere that everyone can climb on.

It was spectacular and I managed 3km without really sweating. Hips feeling it later, but between dropping the weight and my thermostat reset to not feel the heat so much it was amazing :-)

So things were getting better than took a bad turn again. Blood levels kept dropping even though I was starting to feel better. Surgeon started getting worried so they had to take me back in and open me up again at 3am on night 2. Found 2 liters of pooled blood but no obvious source. Ended up having to do a blood transfusion, closed up some minor leaks and now hoping it turns around again.

Thank you. I gained a few lbs in the winter but I'm not letting it set me back. I'm just staying active and still keeping with the lifestyle changes I accepted when I had the surgery. I leave the word diet out of my vocabulary. I haven't touched a soda or sweet tea since surgery. I don't eat a lot of bread. Limit sugar. And most important stay moving. You are doing great. Never give up just keep moving on. I'm like a teenager I want to try everything now.

I was a train wreck for about 3 days and then i couldn't have more than a few sips of Water the first few days i was home. It's normal and you will be fine. You will literally grow into it, and learn how to chew food and not drink water at the same time like everyone else. Get ready for some big changes and weight loss. The fun has just started!

As for your blood clot question, it is normal. My best friend had it done before I did and he was puking clots of blood, which i never did after mine. He's fine, he went from 350 pounds to 174 pounds in 1 year. Hang in there.

We all expereince surgery different - Wow, What has your Drs said about all your post op symptoms????
No, This was not m experience with surgery.
My pain was managed well with meds. No vomiting. Walking went well. I got my food in and the rest was recovery at home. I bounced back well.

Hey all. Excited to finally have it done but post op has been tougher than expected. Ended up hacking and throwing up little blood clots most of the night. Foam was tough to deal with. Tried to drink Water to deal but hard to keep it down. Tried to get up to do first walk and got really dizzy and kind of passed out for a bit. Feeling a tiny bit better now - anyone else have these issues?
