    Females - Surgery questions...

When I had surgery.. I could only wear the gown. Thankfully, I wasn't cath'd either. From reading other posts on here, people have said that the hospital will provide you with some protection if you have your period on surgery day.
  5. Drink a cup of apple juice & just wait it out.. I wouldn't do a laxative.. your stomach has already been through enough. Personally, I was banded Monday.. and it didn't happen for me until Friday. Make sure you are taking a vitamin & getting all your protein in too.. it's helps!
  6. Just a tip for future, umm..'issues'.. if you are on clear liquids, have some apple juice.. if you are on mushies, have some applesauce.. and if you are on real food, have an apple.. it will naturally help with constipation.. also, a tablespoon of benefiber or something of that sort is much easier on the stomach with the same effect. It can be mixed in your flavored water, brothes, anything really..because there's no taste to it. Hope this helps!
  7. Nikole.. I had tomato soup yesterday too..and was banded on 07/28/08. Some of the things you described were the same for me. I just let it all work its way down & made a mental note for next time. Today, I had Cream of Chicken soup with 1% Milk. I drank much slower this time.. nothing a half hour prior or after.. and I felt much better. My stomach has been growling too, but for some odd reason, it's not the same sensation I had post-surgery where I felt the need to go to the kitchen & eat to make it go away. My thoughts are that the gas is still doing crazy stuff to my body too! I'm interested to see what others post! Good Luck!
  8. Today is day 3 post-op for me. I started full liquids today.. and I'm having more gas pain than yesterday on clear liquids. 4oz in 2 hours was the goal on clear liquids. From what I've read on full liquids.. the goal is to get 64 oz in for the day. Cream soup never tasted so good!

    Post Op pain med

I just came home today.. surgery was yesterday. In the hospital, I was given an anti-botic through IV to keep infection away internally. I was also given Protonix through IV to help with the gas. That seems to be the worst part so far.. that, and the sore throat I got from some meany who wasn't careful with the oxygen during surgery. Morphine was available, but only if I asked.. and so was Vicodin (pill form)..again, only if I asked for it. At discharge, I was given a script for Vicodin, if needed. Today, my biggest incision, close to the belly button, it a bit tender, but that's about it. Overall, I'm just relieved to be on the other side of the banding now. The weight loss journey & organizing my new lifestyle is the main focus.

    Sick Before Pre-Op :(

As long as you are keeping food down.. not the full on flu.. I'm pretty sure you will be fine to go ahead with the pre-op. The EKG takes longer to set up than it does to test. The Chest X-ray doesn't take very long either once you're done sitting in the waiting room forever. That was all the pre-op testing I had to do. If anything, just give your physician a call to be sure they are ok with your current ailment. Good Luck!

    Post Op pain med

My surgery is tomorrow. The surgeon advised he would be sending me home with a prescription for something that begins with a "C".. but it's not Codeine.. and I can't remember the name. When I come home on Tuesday.. I'll follow up! Thanks!

    Starting to scare myself

My surgery is Monday.. and all the 'what if's' are racing through my mind. I haven't been able to find any ratio on the bands outcome rate.. but I'm curious. Lack of control is mostly why I'm paranoid. Wonder if the nurse can give me something to calm my nerves when I arrive? I don't want to be a blubbering fool!
