My case was a little different. When I had my sleeve done I also had a hernia repair that took 6 weeks to heal. Been back at work for 2 weeks now. I was told usually someone can go back 2 weeks after the surgery.

Is that the correct surgery date on your profile? Because if so, you are only 3.5 months out, not 4.5. I know because I had my surgery the day after you, LOL! And how much have I lost? 30lbs - half as much as you! It sucks to compare yourself to others, and that way madness lies - but if you are going to insist on doing it, compare yourself to me. You are absolutely flying!! You are doing wonderfully well!

I took 5 weeks. I would highly recommend that wls patients take as much time as they can to work on their health, including mental health.

I'm only 2 months out but no regrets here. Sure I have had my days where I say to myself why did I do this. Then I remember I was on the road to diabetes, had high blood pressure, depressed, and in pain all the time. I'm still new to this so still working on the emotional part but everything else is gone. That is not to say this isn't hard, in fact this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

So I will tell you a bit about me and my journey. I am a 27 almost 28 year old poly kink non-binary. Pansexual wife to a pansexual man of almost 5 years whom I've known my entire adult life. I've always been heavy. Both my parents had addictions. My mother passed away in January of this year due to a massive heart attack and the issues associated with that. My father was where I got the obesity from he's battled diabetes high blood pressure cholesterol for close to going on two decades now and had a stroke at 35. I when I was diagnosed with diabetes at 22 decided nope I wasn't going to be my grandma who had strokes and 13 heart attacks mind you she was a smoker. Or my father. I was going to beat this. So I took that nasty metformin. I asked and asked for anything better until about 3 years ago I was put on victoza. Mind you I started with a baseline a1c of 9.7 when diagnosed. This most recent trip to the endocrinologist my a1c was 5.1 so low that they are removing the diagnosis of diabetes out of my chart completely. So in September of 2015 I decided initially to persue gastric bypass. I would later around the time of the choosing of my surgery date begin to have a total psychotic break from reality. I had 4 trips to the psych unit in 1 year. And my marriage got very strained. I also got placed on SSDI disability because I lost the ability to fully function after a long two years of medical and mental battles I tried again this time in a much better place. I had been thru months of therapy I was stable on meds and in a great place. I had gastric bypass on August 28th 2018 I had a highest recorded weight of 311 I had started my program at 280 I had a weight the day of surgery of 274. My 6 month post op visit was Thursday of last week I weighed 210. I've lost over 100 pounds in a year.

Steph, I like your idea about posting them above the scale, but I think I will take it one step further and post it in the pantry and on the fridge. That would be a good reminder whenever that urge to eat something not so healthy strikes.

Surgery was on 5/13/2019 and came home yesterday from the hospital. Dr. said everything went well and no issues at all.. As soon as I came home I drank a big gulp of G2 not thinking of the ramifications of gulping. We'll I know the ramification now, straight to the sink and it is not very delightful to throw up with 85% of your stomach gone. So I got it now. Overall, feeling good but still some pain and still have some gas to get out. Popsicles, Premier Protein, broth, G2 (slowly), and Jello for the next 10days til I see my surgeon on 5/23/2019 to hopefully move on to Phase 2. But, let me tell you guy something, this ain't no joke pain wise when u wake up in recovery and you first night in the hospital. So don't think this is a joke and u will be running marathons any time soon. Just give yourself sometime to heal, that's what I am doing... Best of luck guys and if you have any questions let me know....

Had VSG, Gallbladder Removal and Hiatal Hernia Repair 05.10.19. One night in the hospital. Amazed at how little surgical pain there is for me. Most pain was from the gas, which seemed to accumulate in my shoulder blades, but getting better each day. Able to drink more today too. Other than being weary, can't really complain!

othella2 reacted to JamesL73 in My Journey from VSG to MGB
In 2015, I was at my highest weight ever of 420 pounds. I had high BP, High Cholesterol, Acid Reflux, sleep Apnea, and had just been told I was diabetic with a BS of 7.5. I didn't have insurance so I searched around and finally found Dr Dirk Rodriguez in Dallas, TX who would do my VSG for 10,000 cash. I had my VSG on 6/23/2015. After a few weeks recovery, I began walking then fast paced walking, I introduced intermittent jogging, then jogging with intermittent sprints, inclines, stairs. I started bicycling. I got to where I was jogging/running 5 miles a day and cycling another 5-10 miles a day, every day. I was going to a gym and doing some strength training, hitting the rowing machine, doing some kickboxing classes, etc. A little over a year later, I was down to my GW of 190 pounds. Every single one of those comorbidities....GONE!! No more medicines!! I swore that I would never regain that weight, I felt better than I had my entire life. But then reality set in, you see, that whole year that I was doing this extreme cardio and other exercising, I was living off of my savings, not working, so I had all the free time in the world to focus fully on losing the weight. But, then I had to get back to work, my savings was pretty much gone. I am a career crane operator, over 20 years, it's all I know and it pays very well. It is also a very sedentary job, just sitting in a crane all day for 12- 14 hours, 7 days a week. Needless to say, it gets boring. I began to snack (graze) throughout the day. I mostly still eat healthy, just too much, that coupled with the fact that I have no time for all of the intense exercise I was doing....I have regained about half of what I lost. I am now back up to 320 pounds.

So, since I have no intentions, at 45 years old, of trying to change careers, I have decided to try a revision to the Mini Gastric Bypass. I am hoping that the restriction of the sleeve, coupled with the malabsorption of the bypass, as long as I keep eating healthy, even if it's a bit too much, it will even things out. I know that I need to work on the grazing habits. I also know that I need to try and make some time somehow to get in some kind of exercise, even if only 15 minutes a day. I am scheduled for my revision on June 15, 2019, almost exactly 4 years since my VSG. I will be going to Mexico this time simply because it is so much cheaper, but also because I know the standard of care down there, especially at Bariatricpal MX, is just as good, if not better, than most in the US. Also because the Mini Gastric Bypass is very common there, but not so much in the US. I will be using the very well known and highly recommended, Dr Jalil Illan. I can only hope that I will have as much success this second time as the first. I do consider my VSG a success, I just don't think it was the right procedure for my specific circumstances. Hopefully, with the MGB, I will be able to lose the weight again and keep it off long term this time.

For anyone considering weight loss surgery....If fear is holding you back, find a way to get past it. It truly is a great tool. But it is just that, a TOOL, it is not a miracle cure for obesity, you must put in the work, make lifestyle changes, dietary changes, a lot of times it means social changes. A lot of people can be negative or become jealous because you are getting healthy and better looking and they are not. I say this, if those people are unwilling to support you in your efforts to do whatever it takes to be a healthier you, then they are not worthy of being in your life. I know that is a harsh reality but in the end, you need to do this for YOU. It is your life, not theirs. You are the one suffering from Obesity and all the myriad of illnesses and complications that come with it. Do you want to be able to play with your kids, your grandkids? To see them grow up? To see yourself live longer, healthier, happier? To be able to do all the things you have been dreaming of your whole life? Do you want to finally, truly LIVE?? Then do it. Don't let anyone stop you, don't let fear stop you, don't let insurance stop you. Definitely don't let YOU stop you. Get up! Take back your life! Fight for it! Good Luck. YOU'VE GOT THIS.

Yep, me too. I was hungry ever since I started the pre-op, and hungry right after surgery. I have stopped being hungry since I have been able to transition to pureed foods. And now I get what the whole "feel full quickly" thing is about.

We are all human beibgs, don't sweat all the small stuff, you will tie yourself up in "Nots". not this, not that. Just live and let IT go.

Remember that the golden rule of wls is Protein first. If we eat the required amount of protein first at every meal, I doubt that there will be room left over for oatmeal.
Imho oatmeal is best left for maintenance.

Similar situation with me. Began in middle school with my father saying I was fat when I wasn't. Continued for years and then stopped when I actually became overweight... something that happened because of body image issues directly from the comments he made when I was a child. People don't understand the effect their words truly have on kids. Anyways, screw em.
