Insurance companies are a breed unto themselves. And anything associated with Medicaid can be problematic. I don’t think anyone here can really answer for sure whether an insurance company will authorize or not. A lot will depend on your doctor. What have you and your doctor talked about? It sounds like he has put you on some type of path towards authorization. Is that correct?
As you have probably noticed, some people on this site have had some tough times getting things approved, while others have had no problems whatsoever. When it comes to insurance companies, they can be a pain. Good luck.

Have you talked to your doctor about crushing the pill or opening the capsule? I certainly would. It can greatly change the effectiveness or the meds. Tell him your concerns and see what he wants you to do.

I'm in the same situation as you. My husband has been on board with me from the start, and has been very supportive as well. We have talked about this and agree as far as disclosure goes and to whom. I won't be telling my adult son's until afterwards, because mom & step daddy don't want them to worry. As for my Inlaws, well lets just say I mirror your statements regarding any disclosure and the after effects thereof . I live closer to mine and we do see each other frequently. My brush-off will be that I am on a doctors supervised diet plan, and am excreting more.
As far as my siblings go, well let's just say they are even less supportive than my inlaws. So that's a big NOPE!

After reading your post, I dug through my closet and found my wedding dress. My husband and I escaped to Maui to get married in 1997. We have both been married before, and both wanted to do it up "right" this time. We told no one, except my 3 sons who love their step daddy to death. So, we fled to the islands for a weddimoon. I want to fit into my wedding dress and renew our vows in the Tropical Gardens on Maui, on May 2, 2022. Our 25th anniversary.
I also found the one piece swim suit I wore when we were there as well. I would like to fit in it and go snorkeling and diving, just like in 1997. I'm glad I hung onto my beautiful dress now. So many times I have looked at it just hanging there and thinking "why do I keep that! I'll never get back into it." Now, I'm thrilled I did. Thank you.

Only my husband knows. My kids are all adults, so I feel no need to share at this time. I think weight loss and/or wls are a very personal topics/decisions.
As for others noticing your weight loss after surgery, well I think it’s normal for others to wonder how and what you are doing to lose the weight. However, i think to much info to others, especially not immediate family members is unnecessary. And really, none of their business.

Wow, Cowgirl. Sorry to hear that. However, I think all of us can take a lesson in healthcare from our parents. I know mine were a perfect example of what not to do healthcare wise. But, I'm with you. I'd rather never eat bacon or pizza or have soda if it means adding another 40 yrs to my life.

    Hello!

I was a very active user last year, but due to personal matters, I was unable to have my surgery last year and fell into a depression because of it. Thankfully, I'm back and with amazing news! My surgery is scheduled in 10 days; July 22, 2019. I can't express my joy to anyone in the way I feel it, so I knew I could turn to this forum. It's a scary excitement to have, but altogether good.
I genuinely am so happy I can have my surgery soon and get my life on track. I know all bodies are summer bodies, all shapes and sizes are beautiful... but I'm 21 with diabetes and this surgery is just.. a second chance. I know how lucky I am, and I'm so happy things are finally working my way

I am saddened by your situation with your mother. I am 63 and am scheduled for surgery in Mexico on October 1st. After much serious thought I made my decision. I don't think anyone makes this decision easily. You stay the course. Acceptance is not always obtainable from ones family and friends, so I guess that in itself is a lesson in acceptance.
Let me just say, as a mother I admire you for the kind and loving child you are. I am glad you are learning from this experience with your mother. It will make you a better mother and person. Bless you.

I have always been a very private person and respect other people and their space as I would like to be respected. I'm not going to be the poster child for wls, as this is a very personal decision for me. I didn't make this decision lightly or quickly for that matter. I have a small but very supportive group and I just told my sister and she's highly supportive. This is a very mental process that requires for us to do a lot of internal work, I personally don't have space for anyone's unaddressed personal life issues. Negativity is not welcomed, this means I'm not going to be able to share with a few people and I'm fine with that. Some ppl are just narrow minded and that's not my issue to address, getting my health in check is the only priority for me. I come first, finally. Not anyone's opinions and ideas of what they feel I should be doing. Everything doesn't have to be publicized for approval.

Ya know, I walked by a really long full length mirror today, and I was shocked! I will be happy not to see that again! I rarely venture near a full length mirror. Full length mirrors to me are like garlic to vampires.
i look forward to walking past a full length mirror and actually stopping to look at myself.

I'm 63 and am scheduled 10/1 for VSG surgery in Mexico. I have already had 1 knee replaced and the doctor stated that he thought that alone was a really good reason to have the surgery.

Did any of you have Gall Bladder issues prior to wls? I have had 2 really bad bouts and several not so bad bouts of Gall Bladder "attacks". I am preop (10/1/19) and after reading some info online, I decided to let the doctor rip it out on 5/9/19.
The article I read stated it was better to have it out prior to wls. But, then again....you can find exactly what "you" want to read or hear on the internet.

I had a lot of nosy coworkers as well. And the gossip about the “unknown” no matter what it was about was outrageous! When I had a previous surgery, I didn’t tell anyone what it was for. The super asked me for auth to disclose to staff and I refused. I loved hearing the rumors about me! Some folks were very inventive in their attempts to get me to “spill”. I never did. Some folks got very angry and expressed their anger to me. I still kept silent.
One of my coworkers actually brought up the issue at a staff mtg. The super asked me to comment. I politely stated that a was overwhelmed with my coworkers concerns, however, my healthcare is a very personal issue and it should remain as such. And that it is never a demonstration of professionalism to share with anyone during working hrs, their personal issues, no matter what they may be. You’re right if you are thinking I was not a personal favorite from then on. However, no coworker ever wasted my time with useless gossip after that.

I'm 63 and will be having my VSG on October 1, 2019. Now, I don't know about you, but I get tired being asked about why I would do something "at my age." OMG! I'm in really good health physically. It's just this 4th grader that's been strapped to me for the last 20+ years that's causing most of my medical issues. My doctor says lose the weight, and most of my friends would ask why "at my age" would I go through this (if I told them)? I know my husband & adult children, as well as other family members and friends have watched my struggles with weight and "love me just the way I am." But I don't! I want to live a very long life, I want to be mobile for the duration and I want better health! So, age be damned! I'm heading to Mexico and a new lifestyle!
