What does your Optifast diet consist of? I just bought a ton of different Protein Shakes from Bariatric Pal and a variety pack of broths and those broth sticks then some calcium citrate. I swear I can't find citrate Calcium in stores its always the other one (I cant think of the name off the top of my head). I grabbed some Protein shakes from the store the other day to try them. Premier Protein everyone talks about them. I liked the Akins ones but they only have 15g of protein rather then the Premier it has 30g so that's a no brainer. My surgeon didn't tell me to start anything yet, but I wanted to have it all ready for the 2wk pre surgery diet. I see him the 12th of July I assume that's when he will tell me to start it.

Just tell yourself in your mind " They are all just going on holiday! When they return, our relationship will be different, just on an More Adult Basis!" And it is amazing how much better it is and how little of anything it takes to fill YOU up!!!

I haven't had what I consider a "food funeral" but I have visited my two favorite restaurants this past week. I'm looking at it like it won't be that I can't ever go back again, it'll just be a long time, and I will be ordering different by that time!

OP, we are surgery twins! I am starting my pre-op Optifast diet today but I already cut out everything except caffeine in my coffee. But I got low acid coffee so it won't affect my tummy anyway. I've even been quit smoking for over two months now after smoking since like middle school!

I was torn between that... having a food funeral like some of yall and just eating, but then thinking that it might hinder me in the long run because its gonna be a cold Turkey quit. Do yall who did that feel like it hindered you at all? I'm definitely going to cut out sugary drinks and caffeine because I don't wanna suffer those headaches while trying to recover. But cutting out sweets, breads, pastas wasn't sure when I should stop those. Seems like most stopped well before.

Once you stop the sugar, it will take a few days for the cravings to pass. Once they do, it will be much easier. But never go back. Even just one sugary bite can trigger all the cravings to start again. It has to do with the brain chemistry and pleasure receptors. It also has to do with insulin spikes that drop the blood sugar and make you want more. Just let it go and be done with it. Once I stopped sugar and caffeine, my energy levels soared! I am even keeled throughout the whole day with no afternoon slump. When 3:00 rolls around, my co-workers are starting to reach for coffee and energy drinks. I used to do the same, but just don't need it anymore.

I started a month or six weeks before the surgery to start eating like I would be after surgery and I had cut out soft drinks, sugar, Pasta, carbs, etc. No food funerals.

Good to know! I will start cutting everything out. I only have a few soda's left so once they are done that's it and I'll switch to my unsweetened tea to curb the headaches then Decaf unsweetened tea if I want something other then Water. I know sugar is going to be hard to cut out, but I know it's just something I have to do.

I finally got my surgery date for July 23rd so I have a little over a month before surgery. When did you start to cut things out? Like soda, sweets, ect... I probably drink one soda a day maybe two tops. I use to be a Venti frappuccino everyday person, but I've already cut those to like once a week. I do still eat sweets after dinner like an ice cream cone. I don't snack anymore and I'm trying to eat Breakfast. Before I would skip it and only eat one or two meals a day then snack. So I'm wondering what I could be doing better to get ready for not eating the things I normally do.

hadn't had a soda in years - had removed the sugar from my tea and coffee the previous year.
but as to everything else - dont hate me - 48 hours before surgery - didn't really have any type of pre op diet
I have made up for it by being a bit of a overzealous wack job since.
still working out the kinks on that part.
just follow your plan as given by the surgeon and squeeze all the second chance out of this that you can.

I just got my surgery date today and I’m scheduled the same day as you! While I’ve been going through the approval process I started to cut back and will start cutting it out altogether when I start my month long pre op diet.

I started working on cutting things out as soon as I started the pre op process at the end of January.

As soon as I knew I was having surgery. I cut out all sugar, soda, and caffeine. I did not want to go through withdrawal of any addictive substances after surgery, and it was a great decision! Soda was hard. Caffeine was not so bad - just switched gradually to Decaf and then lost my taste for coffee after surgery. Sugar was hard. Cutting this stuff out was good for the pre-op weight loss and boosted my confidence. It was good to have fought these battles ahead of time.

I cut those out as soon as I entered the program, so 6 months ago, my surgery is scheduled for 8/26.

I am pre-op for my sleeve so take my advice for what it is!

I had the lap band about 10 years ago, and realize now I was not ready for the band when I had it placed. I am also a over eater and realized through several years of therapy that I actually had BED (Binge Eating Disorder). Once I started to get help for that, everything else fell into line. I am no longer gaining weight but instead am maintaining my weight (I also feel prepared for my sleeve!).
Something to think about, as food is a complex and complicated issue for most of us. If you constantly feel like you are beating your head against a wall, sometimes it is time for some outside help to give you some coping skills. I first started with overeaters anonymous, and then went on to counseling sessions.

Have you talked with your Dr. about your vomiting situation?
Natures best Isopure zero carb water/drink. It's hydration and Protein all in one. 160 calories. 0 carbs 0 sugar 40 grams protein. It’s not thick like shakes. Texture is like Gatorade. If the flavor is too much add Water to it. Sip slowly. They are at GNC, Vitimine shoppe and Amazon.

I decided pre-op that I was going to be loud and proud about the fact I had gastric. Everybody in the world knows. lmao. Two of my bosses at the Xmas Potluck last week didn't know and I had 2 cheese cubes, 2 green Beans and 3 shrimp on my plate and I casually joked that it was the first time I had veggies in 6 weeks and they asked why and I was like "because I had gastric bypass". BOOM. Now they know. lol. Most of the time people think it's awesome OR they just shut up.

EDIT: CRAP I DIDN'T REALIZE THIS WAS THE WLS VETERANS FORUM I AM SORRY FOR THE INTRUSION! LOL! PLEASE DON'T HATE ME. *disappears*
