  1. How the F*** can you gain 3 pounds when eating under 700 calories a day? I sure as heck don't know but I am getting more discouraged as each days passes. I was off the scale for a week and gained 3 pounds. Am so pissed and beginning to regret what the heck I did to my body.

My surgeon had me at 600 calories. When I last went in he told me I could now start eating between 700-800 calories. Since I last went in I have not lost any weight. It gets discouraging. I have one of those scales that tells what % fat I have and I have noticed that this number has been going down and so have my inches. I guess since I am exercising I am gaining muscle...but sure wish the weight would also drop :(

I am glad that you called another dietician. 41 gram does seem low. I was told we needed a minimum of 65-90 grams a day.

Have you heard back from the bariatric dietitian? I know this will probably sound bad, but have you tried experimenting with your diet a bit? My dietitian gave me an AWFUL plan and I never lost on it. I kinda came up with my own by monitoring my weight and my intake to see if it would make a difference.

  2. After losing a total of 266 I have finally been referred to a neurosurgeon. When I got that referral from the spine surgeon I cried. I may finally have surgery which will allow me to once again walk, dance and do all the things I use to do over 26 years ago.

Just got the call today that the Dr I was referred to is the wrong one. Was given the correct Dr at the Cleveland Clinic down here in Florida. Have an appointment for Oct 24th to see the surgeon, so the ball is finally rolling.

  3. My 3 week stall finally lifted. I stepped on the scale this morning and lost 2 more pounds for a total of 23 pounds since Jan 26th. HURRAY!

There is a lady at my bariatric class who I have watched over the last four or five months progress from wheel chair, to walker, to canes and now - nothing! It has been amazing and inspiring and you too will have the same successes! Best of luck to you as you continue your journey!!

  7. I got my biopsy results back today. I am so thrilled to be able to tell you all the biopsy is benign. Thank the Lord o:) there is NO Cancer. Now I go back to the breast surgeon, get insurance approval again and go to the Plastic Surgeon to get these hugmongous breast and excess skin off my chest. Who knows maybe it will even help my back so I can walk again without the back surgery

Thanks everyone for the congratulations. Yes it will be a pain to have to start all over again with approval and reschedule date for plastic surgery but at least now we know there is nothing there to cause any harm once it has been done. I hope it is soon as my back is getting worse with the more weight I lose. Not sure why that is, perhaps because my fat cushions are gone:D

  8. Had surgery 4 weeks ago today at 314 pounds. Today I am down to 293. Is that a good weight loss for the first month., seeing as how I had lost 183 pounds before surgery?

I know overall it is good. However the first 20 were within 10 days of surgery. I have been in a stall since Feb 9th and only lost 1 pound since then. So I am concerned it maybe wasn't enough for the first month for someone of my size. Thanks all for the reassurance that I am on track. I know this stall has to break soon. I see the surgeon again on Friday I hope a few more pounds will come off by then.

    3. Athenyx

      Athenyx

You're doing great - there's no right or wrong amount to lose, everyone is just so different! I had a five week check up with my surgeon today and I asked him whether losing two stone in the past 6 1/2 weeks was good for my age and size, and he said to me that sure it was, but losing any amount is good. It's about using the operation as a crutch to sticking to a healthy diet and exercise, and just making a life style change for an overall great result. Some weeks the weight will seem to drop off, others it'll be stuck, but there's not a lot of rhyme or reason for it - the body does what the body does! As long as we get there in the end, no matter how long it takes, eh? :-D

Yes I thought that not waiting a 1/2 hour or longer wasn't right so I will not listen to that bit of advise. However everything else seems to make sense according to what a lot of the people on this site were saying to me when I posted about the 41 grams of protein that the surgeon told me to eat and to stop the shakes. So now that I have the info from a Bariatric dietitian her info is what I am listening to except the drinking part.

I have been having the same kind of problem recently, I am 5 weeks out and haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks. I lose and gain the same pound over and over again. I am frustrated but trying to keep my head straight. I get at least 60 to 80 grams of protein a day and I am getting in my fluids. I don't savvy.

    4. her1981

      her1981

I have shared with many that I only lose 1 week per month. The other 3 I'll maintain or go up and down and then in one week I'll lose 8-10. Example, on March 8th, I was 302. On April 1 I was STILL 302. Today I am 294. This happens to me EVERY month. Try not to stress the weight every week and trust the process.

  16. Very frustrated with the fact that I weigh the same as others and am the same height and I am not wearing the size 16 & 18 that they are wearing. I am not even close to that size yet. Why are our bodies so different and when will I be out of the X's ?

      Djmohr

@WLSResources/ClothingExch is absolutely correct. You have to remember that everyone is shaped differently and depending on where you carried your weight, you will have loose skin that effects sizing. And every manufacturer sizes differently.

I wear an 8 in some jeans on the bottom but have to select a 10 in others. I have tried on and fit into a 6. It is so whacked.....you must must must try on everything before you buy it. I used to be in a 26 top and a 24 bottom......big changes in my clothing sizes. I wear either a med or a large or a 10 or 12 on top while my bottom is smaller.

Lastly I would say, while your body is in rest or stall mode, it seems to almost reshape itself. So while I wasn't losing weight, I was losing inches in places and my clothing was getting smaller. It makes no sense to me but that is how it worked. Be patient.

    3. BarefootDrummer

      BarefootDrummer

I think muscle has a lot to do with it too. It weighs more, but you look smaller because of it. 2 years ago I lost a lot of weight running. When I was at the same weight I am right now, I looked much smaller. I've been trying to fit into some of those same clothes and they don't fit. I'm fattier than I was then. :-(

    4. Armygalbonnie

I was able to keep down 2 cups of protein soup and a protein shake. It took me over 5 hours to finish the shake. Just kept sipping at it every 15 minutes or so. Also had 16 ounces of powerade zero. However this afternoon when I went to stand up from my recliner chair I had terrible pain under my back right shoulder near the bra line. and it has stayed with me all night long. It really hurts more than anything else and not knowing what it is is bothersome to me. I don't see anything and neither does my roommate but it sure hurts. I usually hold on to a railing to sit on the toilet and I can't do that with this pain. Did anyone else have this kind of back should pain?

    3. MIMISAN

      MIMISAN

Sometimes that kind of pain can be related to the gallbladder, Do you still have your gallbladder?

    4. Djmohr

      Djmohr

Yes. Back and shoulder pain mostly comes from the gas they pump in. It can take a couple weeks before it goes away completely.

      Glad u r feeling better!

  19. Hi everyone. Thursday, Friday and Saturday I was walking because I felt so good on Thursday and Friday. However I think I have been doing too much walking and sewing. Last night as I was working on sewing a curtain for my patio which I hope to me able to get out onto in the next coming weeks my back across the shoulder really started to hurt. Today the lower back shoulder pain has moved to the side breast underarm pit area. Is it possible for that pain to move? It makes me wonderful if the lower back shoulder pain I had was gas pain due to the laparoscopic surgery. If it is when does this gas pain truly leave the body? This new location pain hurts as much as the lower shoulder back pain did. Also how is it possible to gain weight when all I have had is protein soups and shakes? Yesterday when I got on the scale I was up 4 pounds. It makes no sense. Does liquid Tylenol with codeine cause weight gain even when you don't eat anything? Sorry for the venting but today is not a good day. I am frustrating that I may be backsliding not progressing.

Thanks but a super hero I don't think so. During the 3 procedure operation I had my gallbladder taken out. This is not incision pain. It is in the right side lower back shoulder pain that moved today to the breast armpit area. I saw my PCP on Thursday when I had the pain for 6 days all ready. He thought when the nurses and Pt lifted me off the toilet they broke a rib. But that was not the case. He gave me liquid Tylenol with codeine and it was helping but when the pain switched to the breast armpit area the meds were not helping any more. The walking I was doing was with the walker but today I couldn't even get out the door. All I did was relax in my recliner, surf the net and watch TV. It is only 10 days post op so I was surprised to see a stall all ready

    3. MIMISAN

      MIMISAN

Don't psych yourself out ssflbelle, you are doing fine and everything is working fine. Just chill out and heal a little bit. Slow but sure is the tortoise. Take the small victories and I agree you should stay off the scale for a while. Gas pains can and do move from one area to another sometimes. I had similar problems years ago when I had an abdominal surgery. The gas working out was the worst part.

Don't be down on yourself !

I am seeing short hairs but do not believe it is regrowth. I feel it is my hair breaking. If it is regrowth I never noticed that I was losing hair before. Hope you haven't lost too much hair and if so, it comes back quickly.

    3. Bufflehead

      Bufflehead

I don't think hair breaking is a typical side effect from surgery. The normal side effect is hair completely falling out from the root, not breaking, and not 10 months post op. My guess is that you have something going on that is probably unrelated to your surgery. If I were in your shoes, I would start with asking my hairdresser, PCP, and dermatologist. Good luck!

  25. So very pissed my PS surgery was postponed due to me getting sick. Waiting room of PCP was filled with sick people when I went for my pre-op testing. Why do they not give masks to the sick people or put them in a different room. There were 20 of us in the waiting room. I wonder how many of them are sick now becuase of 4 that were coughing, sneezing etc?  I became sick on the 30th and am not well enough for them to do the surgery. All that personal testing, setting up  driver,   and work related planning for a substitute teacher, transferring cients etc and now it isn't going to happen. Insurance approved it  until March 20th. It better happen before then as I don't know if we can fight again as it was denied the first tiime.
