  1. Kansas Kitty, please pardon me for asking, but have you had any issues with excess skin? Your arms and legs look GREAT. You don't appear to have batwing arms and I just wondered how you've managed skin issues - are you using any particular lotions or potions at all? I do not mean to be rude. I'm genuinely curious as I am having my surgery tomorrow, and loose skin is kind of the one thing I am not so keen on (though expected ).

    April 2019 Surgeries!

My surgery is tomorrow; I'm first on the surgery list. Starting to get a tad wee bit nervous. More nervous, lol.

You know... people keep saying to me (psychologist, nurse, dietician, surgeon, etc) that I am going to lose weight; that the expectation is I will literally halve myself. I just simply *cannot* imagine it. I can't. I dream about it, don't get me wrong, but... at the risk of sounding like a sad sack, nothing I try has ever worked out before, and I am bigger than I have ever been before, so how is this any different? The logical side of my brain knows that it will be different and that - because of what will happen, surgically - I *must* lose weight, but I just... can't imagine it. My surgery date is the 18th. Because we're 16 or 20 hours ahead of you, my 18th will be your 17th, but I have 9 sleeps to go. Nerves are starting to ramp up, hehe... I guess mostly because I'm worried that I'm going to do do all of this, and still be the female equivalent of the Michelin Man. Luckily, I quite like chicken broth, lol...

Dang food troll. Smack it upside the head! My surgeon said to me at my last appointment with him, "With any luck, you'll be one of those people that gets dumping syndrome, because once you get that, you won't eat that food again." Messing up is okay. You're human, right? Just learn from listening to what your body is telling you I know I am a great one to talk, not having had my surgery yet, but don't beat yourself up too much. You're doing it. One meal doesn't mean you've ruined it

    April 2019 Surgeries!

April 18 for me. 9 sleeps to go (a bit like counting down to Christmas!). I'm equal parts excited and terrified, lol.

Wow, you already have undies enlargement? After only a week?! I hope you have good elastic! Go you. And awesome work reminding yourself that you must not feed the Food Troll.

Hello I'm a newbie. Been lurking mostly, but have made a couple of posts. I am scheduled for RNY on 18th April. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. And I'm hoping that these boards will provide me with the support I am going to need afterward. Best of luck to all my fellow April people
  9. Well, Sue - the good thing about this surgery is that you will lose weight, which will in turn reduce your stroke risk. So that's a positive right there. It's good that you keep a food diary because it can show you where you might be falling into traps, or old behaviours and habits. I think you will feel better about it once you get put on your pre-op diet. It makes it feel a bit more real, and you will lose weight on your pre-op diet! It'd be impossible not to; the average adult female needs around 2,000 calories per day for survival. Eating 1,600 or less will cause you to lose weight. My pre-op diet is around 1,000 calories per day - the bulk of which is protein. I never would have thought it possible but in the last week I lost 3.1kg (6.8 lbs) just sticking to my pre-op diet. So I firmly believe it will happen for you. It certainly will be an adjustment, but you absolutely can do it
  10. Hi Sue. I'm new, too. My surgery is on 18 April. I'm excited and nervous at the same time, probably very similar to how you're feeling. You mentioned not being able to lose weight - has your surgeon put you on a pre-op diet? Mine has; I had to start it four weeks pre-op. I have two weeks to go... If you have been prescribed a pre-op diet this should help you shift some weight before your surgery. Are you weighing yourself on the same set of scales each time, and at the same time of day? Are you keeping a food diary? What kinds of things are you eating for your meals, and do you have structured meals as opposed to just eating whenever? I don't do any other exercise at present other than 3 x 20 minute walks per week. This seems to be working for me - I don't get too tired, but I push myself hard enough in that 20 minutes that I am puffing and breaking a good sweat. The nurse looking after me through this process tells me that this is enough. Nice to meet you Sue
