I posted this in the Vegas section because the surgeon is in Las Vegas, though I guess I could have also posted it under Doctors or Before and After.... anyway, I am working with my doc on some advertising and PR, and this is (in addition to some newsletter stuff), the first of it. I love sharing, and can hardly believe that the "before" pic is me! Check it out, I am so excited! AND I have lost another 10 or so since it was filmed, and hope to lose about 30-40 more! If you have insurance that covers any of it, check out Dr's Atkinson and Soong of the Gastric Band Institute/Surgical Weight Control Center of Nevada. Their # is 702-313-8446. I know a few people who have moved their after-care (fills, etc.) to them after being banded somewhere else. The staff is great and the doctors are involved in your success! It's a great practice!

I was banded in May and have - so far - lost 110lbs. I am a patient of Dr. Soong (same office as Atkinson). I attended my first support group meeting only recently and found it to be a double-edged sword... good points and not-so-good points. But, I understand that not everyone has the same experience or outlook, though, so I was very interested in listening to people talk about their successes, their trials, and their tips for staying on track. Also, if you are interested, there is a growing group of us who meet for lunch once or more a month to talk about how we're doing, what we've been through, and just generally socialize with people going through what we are going through. We're quite diverse, with a broad age range of men and women, so we cover most of the bases. The irony is that we meet over food, we all get that, but it's a very relaxed, supportive, and fun way to remember that we still can go out and do this if our heads are on straight. Newcomers are welcome - in fact, encouraged - and we would love to have you all join us this Sunday. Just post to the thread (link below) and let us know if you will be joining us. I saw George at the doc's office today, and he said he'll be there. I think he also said he'll contact Margy. ATTENDING: Felicia Judy George Margy? Tom? Jason? EDIT 1/28: Went to the SWCC support group for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised to see Tom, a guy I met randomly talking about the band with a mutual friend, and MajorSam and her mom (from our last luncheon). Tom said he will try to make it, and I also mentioned it to a few others. A guy named Jason was talking to Tom and me, and said something about it being close to him, so I am listing him just in case. Bring your friends, your LBT buddies. Firefly is a tapas bar, meaning lots of choices in small portions on small plates (and, consequently, cheaper than Entrees somewhere else). It's great for sharing, trying new things (always good if you are feeling limited by the band - a common theme last night), and conversation. See you there! Felicia
