Aimy76 reacted to brittanyatwalsh in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Shave.......... I didn't shave before surgery and I'm wishing I did now! Lol 7 days post op and I finally shaved my legs today. Shaving my right leg was harder than my left because of the bending on my stomach.

Aimy76 got a reaction from Frustr8 in Surgery tomorrow 6/24?!?
✍️ My surgery is tomorrow too. I just had to wash off all the antiseptic wipes because I forgot no shaving 24 hr rule and shaved in the shower tonight! I was itching all over. I am wide awake and have to be at the hospital for 5:30 am HST. No sleep for me tonight either I guess. Prayers for all of us!

Hi! Just checking in. It's great to read all of your stories. Congrats and hugs to all who have already been and best wishes to all those who are still to go!
I had my surgery a week ago and it all went great. The first night was pretty painful (gas, left shoulder mainly) but the gas pain was gone in about 18hrs. Was a little sore on my tummy the next day but have felt great since. None of the pain was anywhere near as bad as I had thought it would be.
I was up and walking almost as soon as I was awake. I needed to get to a toilet! Walking really seemed to help with the pain, so I stayed as active as I could be.
I've read a lot of posts and #1s and #2s. #1s were happening as soon as I was awake in icu and have been normal ever since. #2s started after my leak test (barium swallow xray) about 18hrs after the surgery and I've been regular ever since.
I felt a little nausea the first night but wasn't sick and it soon passed.
I'm on full liquids and not having any problems with any of the food or Water I've tried so far. I'm sticking to the diet plan I was given and still have another week and a bit before puree stage. I have noticed that my tastes have changed (for the better). I seem more sensitive to sweet and salty flavours. I haven't felt any hunger (real or imaginary) at all.
Finally and perhaps most excitingly, I've lost 10.5kg (just over 23 pounds) since surgery!
So far, I simply couldn't be happier! ☺

I’m staring to get paranoid because everyone else is throwing up and can’t eat and I’m plugging along and while I am eating very little for me personally, I still feel like it’s more than I should be compared to the rest of you all. Last night I had almost a half cup of shredded chicken and green Beans for dinner no issues🤷🏼♀️ did they actually sleeve me or just fix my hernia? I’m starting to wonder😆 but I feel super full like up to my throat from 3 ounces of chicken so I guess so...lol

I haven't thrown up once either (though I have felt pretty nauseous enough times!) I've even been pushing myself a bit too hard and having things I shouldn't quite be having yet... *blush* I also feel like I can consume more than I should be able to, but on the other hand, I have that same feeling of fullness from just a few ounces, so I think we're both doing ok... fingers crossed!

Thank you so much James! I did see something like that somewhere but I didn't think I was eating so many carbs before that it would affect me! 😐

Aimy76 got a reaction from ARMoma45 in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Hi All, Last night I read the entire thread! I am getting anxious for my surgery on the 24th! I have been doing very well on the full liquid diet I have been on since June 13th. I have always been good with Water so I always drink a minimum of 66 oz. a day. I have been very tired though. It seems like my batteries deplete at 8 PM nearly every night. I wake up at 5:30 AM and by 8 I am literally falling asleep on the couch or in bed. Has anyone else experienced this? I still drink jasmine iced green tea (the Dr. said if I gave up coffee he won't take away my tea) I mix it with crystal lite lemonade so it is like an Arnold Palmer! It tastes amazing and has been one of my lifesavers! I also have never liked liquid water flavorings, does anyone know of any other good powder ones?

I had my first follow up with the surgeon. Everything looks good and he's pretty happy. He busted me on liquids though. He doesn't want me to count Protein Shakes as part of my liquids, so I wasn't getting to 64 ounces. I don't feel dehydrated, but now I've got to work on drinking more. Funny contrast to Bullet's being worried about too much Water.< br>

Two days to pass gas, four days for a "tiny nugget," as James says. 🤣🤣🤣

Been reading along on stuff, thought I'd offer my personal experience on my milestones. I had RNY on 6/11.
Urinating: I almost got a catheter put in because I couldn't go, but finally by the morning of day 2 I was at least pushing out enough to be out of the danger zone. I'd say it was 3-4 days before things felt normal down there though.
Passing gas: day 2 was when this finally started, at least a little.
BM: day 5. My first was a miserable experience because I hadn't been taking enough stool softener, but once I corrected, things have been much better!
Tastes post-op: sugar and sweet things sort of terrify me on a subconscious level, and not just because I fear dumping syndrome. Sweet things also don't taste nearly as good to me now. I can't have much for flavor syrups in my shakes anymore. Most else hasn't changed yet, at least for what I've tried.
Incidentally, I'm constantly terrified I'm stretching out my pouch too fast, but on the other hand, I know it can't stay 1 ounce forever, so I just have to get used to constantly feeling full for a while! ☺

I was passing gas I think on day 2. As for a poo.... FINALLY, just this morning, day 5, after drinking a Protein Shake, I thought I was about to have something explosive but only dropped a little nugget. LMAO I'll take it as a win though, progress is progress. I'd like to think that since I haven't eaten anything for a few weeks....that nugget was pure fat being expelled. 😂

Sadly, I ate dinner too quickly yesterday. Was told by doc I could eat salmon and broccoli as part of my purées diet, just chew well. I had 2 oz. salmon and 4 small broccoli crowns. I chewed really well (30-40 times per bite). But, I must have gone too quickly or maybe that was too much food. It was awful, painful and I nearly vomited. Lesson learned. 😩🥴🤢

Aimy76 got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Hi, My name is Aimy and I am 43. Currently, I live in Honolulu, HI with my husband, two cats, and a dog. I am grandmother of 2 Step Grandchildren and 2 Biological grandchildren from my Son, and will have a new Grandson in September from my Daughter. Both my children followed in my footsteps and married at 20 years old! Oy Vey! I have sleep apnea, arthritis, and acid reflux. I will be moving to our next duty station in VA in August. (My husband is a United States Navy Submariner). My surgery is scheduled for June 24th! I am excited and nervous. I am on day two of my full liquid diet and I haven't felt hungry but I am burping a lot. Strange right?! I set a timer on my phone to go over every 10 minutes to remind me to drink. I good at consuming over 64 oz. of Water a day, but I want to be in the habit of taking sips every 10 minutes. It is nice to have this forum to interact with others going through the same things! I look forward to getting to know you all more!
