"Normal food" in the sense of "everything is allowed now" was about 4-6 weeks post op. First coffee after 4 weeks. Between week 4 und 6 one was supposed to introduce one food after another, first the softer ones.
So hot dog and mountain dew might not be the right choices right now.
Maybe see this as a challenge to conquer head hunger and the feeling of "having to eat right now". If you choose to eat hot dogs the day you'll be able to - that's your choice and only yours in the end.
I'd stay away from calorie containing beverages though.

I was eating solid food at 5 weeks post-op but I still can't eat many things (steak, soft tortillas, etc.) and haven't returned to what I'd call "regular" food because "regular" food is what made me fat in the first place. I'm eating salmon, cheese, and 90% Protein and very little of anything else. I get full really quickly and can only eat something like 2 oz at a time, which is the beauty of the sleeve surgery being a tool for weight loss. Hang in there and don't eat that dog. 🙂

I looked through this thanks I have a question I'm also on the Premier Protein but they feel extremely thick and make a lot of mucus in my mouth did you have this problem? Maybe it's the milk in it, any way to fix that problem? I was mojo able to drink half of one shake before it made my stomach upset

By the way? That comment in the photo isn't for you. It was what I posted for myself when I knew I was gonna whine about the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I still look at it to remind myself how good I have things!

You’re doing great! You don’t need hot dogs or Mountain Dew. You will absolutely feel SO SICK if you do

If you make a shake with 8 oz Fairlife milk (13g protein) and 1 scoop unflavored Protein Powder (20-30g protein) add some fruit and stevia, you'd be in good shape. Can you handle stevia?

Hello. I just had my gastric sleeve surgery on 3-11-19. I am finding it (as of the last couple of days) easy to get my Protein and fluids. I’d like to suggest the Premier Protein Water. It has saved me many times. I am recovering in a hotel, in TX. My home is in AK. It’s been extraordinarily hard to fight my food cravings (with all the amazing food places here in TX), make changes, & use will power! Good luck with your surgery. Keep your eye on the prize, through it all. ❤️

Take what the nutritionists tell you seriously and stick to 600-800 calories/day, with Protein being the main ingredient. Get your 64 oz of Water or liquids in each day.

The first week is the toughest in regards to discomfort, but then it’s smooth sailing! I found that for me the biggest challenge is taking small sips and bites of everything that goes in your mouth. It’s just a matter of getting used to. I don’t regret a thing, this surgery is changing my life.

I've heard the first week or so is super hard. I really believe you can do this! Hold on, and stay in there! From what people have said it's going to be worth it in the long run. I havent have wls yet, I'm due in may....but I've had 6 ankle surgeries from a break when I was 10...still have issues with it. I get the no sleep, on top of the wrenching pains. I hope it gets better for you!

My experience has been quite the opposite of what I was thinking would happen. I was sleeved March 11 and as of this moment in time I am feeling very regretful of my decision to do this. The pain was absolutely horrible. I have slightly managed to get my pain under control, but I only sleep like 2 hours at a time because I am so uncomfortable. Drinking my meals when I am starving is so hard. Compared to most other people on this site, I have a lot of negative feelings about this surgery.

Like you, I've had a lot of surgery in the past. My VSG was the easiest recovery of the lot. Best decision ever!

I think everyone is different. Reading all these stories, I certainly have been having a radically different experience from others! I ended up in the hospital for four days because I had an internal bleed and lost a lot of blood. But I didn't take any narcotics on the last day in the hospital or at all when I got home. And only needed Tylenol for like two days. I have not had any nausea or vomiting, very minimal pain, no dumping syndrome, nothing. I also have no appetite so the diet has been fine.

I had super low energy for about a week and a half, but as soon as I got home from the hospital my mom made me start walking. First three days home I walked 3 times 10 minutes, but then she made me do 8 times 10 minutes every day after. Only one or twice was I not able to make it.

I'm feeling a bit shakey and still not 100% on my energy levels and I'm almost 3 weeks post now. But other than that I am super grateful as to how good my recovery has been. All my complications happened in the hospital and it's been smooth sailing since. So know that it's possible!!

I am 67 and had no problems. Gas pain from surgery, and low energy for a couple weeks is all. Just follow Dr instructions for pre op and post op.

All great tips!!! I was told gas x wouldn’t work bc it’s not gas in the intestines.. I also realized that my fluids were just sitting on my chest. I called my doc & they said ice chips & popsicles to ensure I don’t dehydrate 😊 Slow & steady wins the race!!! 💪🏻
